Serena sat on one of the couches, her knees drawn up to her chest as she read. The late afternoon sun was beginning to set and she was enjoying the last few moments of another day that had passed. It was one of the few things she welcomed, and that was the night. With each new day she was starting to pick up the pieces of her broken heart, if not to welcome the closure the day bought. It was a festering wound, her broken heart. All she wanted was to be held by Jude again, feel his arms around her, his warmth, his kiss. The sudden departure left nothing for her to hold onto except a few photos and memories.
There was something different about the way Jamie was arriving at the college. Maybe that it was the fact that he was actually in a country that he knew, one that he loved, and that he was finally some place that he wanted to be. Last time, he moved across an ocean for monetary reasons. Now he was following his heart, and he was where he belonged. He still didn’t care about horses, strange since it was an Equine College, but he was where Serena was. The truck stopped in front of the main office and he went inside to receive all his transcripts and the rest of all the paperwork that he might need for his stay at the college.
Serena refused to mope about any longer. Grabbing her gym bag that her swimming things in, she made a determined walk from the dorms to the gym. She passed the main building where an unfamiliar truck was parked. She paid no heed to it, people passed in and out all day long. Her mind was focussed on getting a bloody good workout, and whatever may be may be. She changed quickly, and was soon warming up.
Jamie was finishing up inside, when he opened the door he saw a familiar blond walking past. Haven't changed in the slightest have you Serena, he whispered to himself as he walked out behind her. This was the girl that had shook up his life, and left him high and dry. Granted, he wasn't the best influence for her, but he had cleaned up his act. He also knew that she was single, and needed a shoulder to cry on. How his timing had worked out. She seemed so lost in thought that she didn't even notice him, or anybody for that matter. Jamie waited a few minutes outside the gym before entering, and went to the pool area. Serena never entered the gym unless it was to swim. He seated himself where he wouldn't be spotted, and watched the lean figure of the blond dive in and start the all to familiar routine of the strokes.
For Serena there was nothing like swimming when her mind was troubled. All the world was blocked out and she didn't notice what was going on around her. Pausing after how long, she drew a breath, before hearing an all to familiar voice. I should have known that you were going to come, she answered stonily, before turning around in the pool to face him.
Jamie took his chance to reveal himself when he noticed Serena pausing for breath. Serena. How I missed you, he said, taunting her slightly. He smiled when she replied to it, and had an answer ready. What can I say. It's been awhile. And don't try and get rid of me. I know Mr. Muscle left you high and dry. Not even a goodbye. he said, his eyes flashing.
