The grooms had finished their lunchbreaks, and recently he'd developed a habit of going into town once they were all back at work. He shrugged the light jacket he'd been carrying onto his shoulders as he wandered round to the parking lot. The male climbed into his car, wondering what people thought of his daily trips. He instinctively glanced around to see if anyone was about as he pulled out of the college. As far as the man knew, nobody has ever checked to see what he did with his spare time, but if one certain male found out, it probably wouldn't end well.
The journey was short, and he pulled in at the shops before he reached his final destination. Ed's first stop was Hooves and Tails, picking up a few bits and pieces for the barns. The next shop he entered was the grocery store, buying some items to make up a lunch with - some sandwiches, crisps and things. Climbing back into his car, he flicked the radio off. Happy, poppy songs bugged him, always had done. It was only moments later that the car pulled up outside a block of flats in Birch Row. Taking his lunch with him, he locked the car and walked several blocks further until he reached the flats he wanted. The stairs looked as though they could fall apart at any moment. Some of the flats down this road were in good repair, but others... well the least said the better. Reaching the doorway he was aiming for, a grin lit the male's features as he did his distinctive knock against the door. Leaning lightly against the frame, he waited for it to open, wondering what mood Deanna would be in.

Dee sat on the couch, her knees drawn tightly to her chest and her arms wrapped around them as if it was a protective cage. Rocky sat firmly at her side, he hadn't left her since this morning. He'd bitten Ethan this morning, after he'd winded Deanna. Dee had been so shocked that she couldn't remember the dog doing it, but she did remember Ethan's face afterwards. Rocky had never actually bitten him. Gone to, yes. But actually did it, no. He'd been too shocked to react. Dee herself was still in her underwear with a dressing gown draped untied on her body. While in the house, this was how she was ordered to dress. Ethan wanted easy access to her whenever he got home. She knew that her abdomen had bruised, there was a nasty, fist shaped gray mark. She wouldn't hide that either. It would give Ethan sick pleasure. A shudder ran along her spine, her mind fuzzy as she tried to focus on something. She'd had one hit today, this morning just after Ethan had left. She wasn't to have another until tonight, so she was on pins. She'd be counting down the hours. She seemed to shrink into herself even more, if that was possible. Rocky looked to his favorite owner, whining softly. He pressed his cold nose into her arm, causing her to shiver. She didn't pull away though, she found it comforting. Her arm swung over Rockey's neck, and the canine climbed into her lap. She held him close, relishing in the comfort the stocky canine was giving her. Zigg then appeared from around the side of the sofa, climbing up beside the pair and placing his large cranium on her knees. These were what she needed to keep her sane. These and Ed. she thought, her expression falling to unreadable blankness.
Her expression lit up when she heard the knock at the door. But she instantly felt bad about it. She wasn't supposed to be obsessing over another male. She loved Ethan. Well, at least she thought she did. Rocky had started up a steady growl, tensing in her lap. She bat him down from her lap playfully, and then shoved Zigg off the couch when he started up growling too. "Behave you pair." she scolded, her expression dimming a little. If Ethan found out he was here now, he'd kill him. And then Deanna herself. She knew she was playing a dangerous game, but couldn't bring herself to stop. Shame wasn't a emotion she possessed anymore, so she had no problem with answering the door in little more than her underwear. She pulled open the door and as soon as Zigg and Rocky saw who it was, they fell silent. They were used to Ed now. She smiled shyly up at him, and then realized her bruise would be on show. Her expression smoothed over and she pulled her dressing gown tightly around herself. "Good afternoon Ed, come on in." she said in little more than monotone, stepping out of the way to allow him past her.

On one level, he just wanted to help her out, damsel in distress style. But, on the other hand, he felt something more than that. Ethan scared him though. At work the male was perfectly polite and sensible, but Deanna's explanations and bruises led him to worry.
Ed nodded at Denaa's invitation into the flat, bending down to stroke each of the dogs. His eyes took in the girl's skinny form, the new bruise on her stomach. A sigh slipped through her lips as his hand touched her arm in greeting. He ached to be able to take her fragile body in his arms and just whisk her away from Ethan and the troubles attached to him, but Ed still wasn't positive that would be what Deanna wanted. Her smile pleased him, and he returned it with his own, somewhat childishly cheeky grin. Her vocal tones warned him that she was craving her next hit, and he reminded himself to step carefully around sensitive issues, no matter how much he wanted to scream at her about the drugs. Walking further into the flat, he seated himself on the sofa, pulling the plastic bag onto his lap. Want some lunch?" Ed questioned in light vocals when Deanna entered behind him. "I have sandwiches..." He spoke in jokey, enticing tones, offering the bag up to her. The male was normally shy, but Deanna brought out a side of him that not many people got to see.

She gave a shudder as his hand made contact with her arm. Closing her eyes tightly, she scolded herself. Nothing good can ever come of this. He'll only get hurt. she told herself in a rare logical outburst. But she knew that her heart did not agree in the slightest. She knew she was developing feelings for Ed, ever since she'd served him at the cafe. Pulling her lips into a straight line, she opened her eyes to me met with that adorable grin he possessed. Well that doesn't help in the slightest. she thought to herself, before shaking her head in despair. Closing the door behind him, and then making Rocky come away from it, she followed him over to the couch. For her own sake, she sat in the corner of the sofa, leaving quite a bit of distance between herself and Ed. She knew if she was too close to him, she'd be unable to resist the urge to touch him. It was pretty powerful with that much distance between them. She looked to Rocky, whom was now curled up on the other chair. She wished he'd decided to sit beside her, give her something to distract herself with. With a gentle, almost inaudible sigh, she returned her attention to her company.
She kept her expression blank when he held up the food, but her stomach had automatically began to churn as he mentioned it. She rarely ate these days, and when she did it was usually fruit. Instead of showing her disgust at the thought of eating, she forced a polite smile upon her face and shook her head. "Not thank you. I ate before you came." she lied easily, knowing her expression wouldn't betray her. She was a good liar, great in fact. She still wasn't sure if that was a good or a bad thing. Leaning back into the sofa, a more genuine smile tugged at her lips as she looked at him. There was something about Ed that made her feel happy, and in his company she almost felt.. normal. Her mind wandered briefly, trying to remember what normal actually was. Depressingly, she couldn't really remember. In fact, she didn't remember much about her old life anymore. But since Ed had wandered into her life, she'd found herself wanting to. Before, she hadn't given a damn. All she cared about before was the drugs, and pleasing Ethan so that he wouldn't hurt her. She'd thought that was love, but since Ed she began to realize that it wasn't true. She bit down on her lip as she thought. Did she feel love toward Ed? Was it just a crush? Or was she just over think it? Looking at him again, she crossed off the latter. She knew she felt something, the way her stomach fluttered when she just looked at him gave that away. Her oracles widened in surprise as she looked down at her stomach. That was a new feeling, if it had happened before she had never noticed it. This was weird for her, and she was getting a little freaked out.
Her mind grasped onto a random subject and a question blurted from her lips. "How is work?" she asked, looking around a little nervously. She caught sight of the time and couldn't hold back the groan. It was still ages until Ethan was due to arrive home, it seemed like a constant, endless waiting game to get what she wanted. But, she'd never quit. There was no way she would be able to live without the drugs, as much as she'd love to. They were a life line, not a life style. She shuddered at the thought of where she'd be without Ethan. The picture that came to mind wasn't pleasant, it featured her lain in a bare, disgusting room on a even more disturbing mattress. It was pretty obvious she was out of it, but there was a man grunting on top of her. Snapping herself out of the image, she was aware that she was shaking slightly. It wasn't unusual for her to do this, but the expression of pure horror was. Trying to get rid of it before she concerned Ed too much, she blinked over and over again. She hadn't noticed that her eyes had began to fill up.

Ed's eyes watched carefully as Deanna seated herself at the far end of the sofa, not letting his mind even start to wonder why she had chosen that position. It would only get him thinking, thinking about things that his heart wanted, but his mind knew could never happen. Look who's getting all philosophical, he grinned to himself as he resisted - as usual - the urge to move closer towards the girl and take her tiny frame into his arms. His heart thumped against his ribcage, firmly reminding the male of it's presence. A frown flickered across his face as she turned down the food, and he raised an eyebrow curiously, but he didn't comment. "All the more for me then," he joked, passing it off lightly. If she didn't want to talk about some things, he wasn't going to force her. No matter how much he just wanted to take that stunning frame of hers and shake it until she saw sense. Would that work? Probably not, he concluded as he always did. He would just put up with it until she did it in her own time... hopefully before she managed to kill herself of get herself killed.
The refusal of food wasn't anything new, but this time he started to suspect a false note in her words. Ed knew perfectly well she was a talented liar, and his eyes probed her face for any clues before he let them drop, a frown marring his features. The smile on Deanna's face couldn't leave him frowning for long though, and he was almost instantly caught up in her happy moment, his childlike grin of joy reappearing and lighting his eyes with a twinkle. His hands slowly clenched into fists by his sides to prevent them from moving to touch the female of their own accord. Why couldn't he hold these feelings back? If Ethan found out... what he did to Ed wouldn't matter, although he suspected it could land him in hospital, it was what would happen to Deanna that bothered him. A sigh passed between his lips, it was like a bloody Disney film. Well without the drugs and threat of a violent male, he reconsidered with a one sided smile.
Ed accepted the subject change without fuss, happy to go along with Deanna. "Work's not bad. A couple of new stallions have arrived recently, and I'm meant to be buying some more for the college." He didn't mention Ethan, nor the fact his younger sister had turned up unannounced, enrolling as a student. His voice filtered off, not having much more to say without getting into to a massive speech. He watched as she groaned at the time. Realizing how long it was until she could poison herself again? Probably. Ed observed as her face changed, the girl going off into her own head. Obviously not nice thoughts, she started to tremble and her face was a mask of horror. He sat frozen as Deanna blinked rapidly, clearly trying to rid herself of the thoughts. He caught sight of the tears building in her eyes, and leant over slowly, his hand outstretched. His index finger delicately wiped away the first tear as it left her eye, and continued to trace around her fragile cheekbone. The familiar feeling rushed into his body again, igniting a flame inside of him, pushing him to just take her in his arms.
Taking a deep breath, he forced himself back into his seat and took several more breaths. "Sorry," he murmured, closing his eyes and resting his head back onto the sofa. "Sorry", he whispered again, allowing himself to turn his head to look at the girl.
