If there was any reason not to stay at the Academy, then Simon had dozens. He wasn’t contemplating leaving permanently, just for the day, and his partner in crime was someone he actually considered as a brother. Those who thought Jay was cold-hearted and caught up in himself, never really saw the side that those who were close to him saw. Simon knew that there were two reasons for him going with Jay. One was to intervene on Hayden, and the other was just annoy Connor some more. Oddly enough, he was starting to enjoy escaping his brother’s clutches, and he knew that Jay was enjoying it as well. He was waiting for Jay to appear, playing with a loose edge of Ace bandage on his wrist. The strapping around his ribs made him remember various instances that he ended up in the hospital with similar injuries. Except that time it hadn't been a horse that had thrown him but rather a man that had beat him. Just thinking about it made him shiver. For the past week, he had been taking the prescribed sleeping pills, and already his pallor had improved slightly. The dark rings under his eyes had disappeared, and the only thing that still marked his accident that was visible, was the cut just above his left eyebrow that had the stitches in.
Seating himself on one of the couches, Simon thought back to the last few years. In a few months he would be turning twenty, and it sounded better than nineteen that was for sure. For three years he had known Hayden, three years he had loved him. They had their fair share of problems, one being Connor, but what Hayden didn't know, not even Jay knew, is that Con did consider Hayden and Jay as family, he just didn't know how to show it. In a way, Simon was still picking up the pieces of his past life.
Simon started dozing off on the couch, and this time he didn't have the barrier of sleeping pills to stop the demons from visiting him. It was stilted memories, they were never played out fully, merely just showing the worst parts of the full story. It could only have been a few minutes, but when Simon woke up, it felt like eternity. Now where he could have got to? Simon mumbled to himself, he had arranged with Jay to leave late afternoon, and it being a weekend, he knew that he had ample amount of time with Hayden. Patience had never been one of his strong points in life, but one would think that waiting would be ingrained in his mind by now. How long had he not spent waiting for someone to intervene in his situation? Too long that was for sure. It could only be put down to stupidity and recklessness. Stupidity from his mother to marry that b****** and recklessness from Simon for not learning his lesson and running away earlier.
Deciding he needed a distraction, Simon went to his room and fetched his acoustic guitar. He wouldn't say that he was any good, his skill returning to the the drums and vocals, but he enjoyed strumming a few tunes, today his preference leaned towards Simon and Garfunkel. The chords from Feelin' Groovy came out easily, but Simon realised how out of tune the instrument was. Tuning was quick, and he started the music again.

He hadn't slept a wink all night, and today he'd spent the day with his mare. Sandy never failed to put him in a bad mood, but today she had been going out of her way to annoy the crap out of him. First, she hadn't come over to him when he went to collect her from the pasture. Every time he got near her, she'd skitter off. When he eventually did catch her, she bit him so many times on the way back to the barns that now both of his arms were littered with dark marks, obviously going to darken to black and blue in tone by the morning. Then, as he tried to tack her up, she kept 'shaking' and throwing the saddle before he could do up the girth. He'd eventually been able to do that, but then it was time for the bridle. She bit his hand every time he came near her mouth, but he'd been able to get it in her mouth finally. He glanced down at his hand as he walked, clenching and unclenching it slowly. The pain was horrid, and his expression became rigid as he walked.
He pulled a face when he remembered the ride, well it couldn't really be called a ride. She'd thrown him way too many times for it to be called that. He had no idea what was going on in her brain, she'd been awful for weeks. He had had to rule out buying another horse from the upcoming auction as he knew she'd probably beat it to death. Question was coming in daily with fresh cuts and scrapes. He'd finally separated them, she was now in a small pasture all by herself. He growled to himself, kicking at the ground in frustration. She needed an attitude change, and fast. He dug his hand into his pocket, pulling out his cell phone. The time that read upon it startled him. "S**t." he muttered. He was late to meet Simon. He paused briefly. He was taking Simon to Hayden's, smuggling him out of the college long enough for Simon to be with his boyfriend without Connor's disapproving eye. Jay's expression was one of disgust when he thought of Connor. He was the one person he actually despised at this current moment. He realized he would be the third wheel for the day. This didn't please Jay. He wondered what Spencer was up to, he hadn't seen his love in a while. With a smile hinting at his lips, he began to type out a text. Hey Spence, Fancy ditching the academy and coming to Hayden's? Simon is going too. xx he sent it, a broader smile pulling at his lips. It always did when he thought of Spencer. He went to where he should have been meeting Simon and frowned. The male wasn't there. Jay didn't blame him though, he was pretty late. Pausing to think where he may be, he decided on his dorm room. Jay looked down at himself, lifting a brow in surprise. He was stinking, he hadn't looked that bad in the barn. Shrugging, he picked up his pace toward Dakota Halls, deciding he needed to change and shower quickly. He got there quickly, throwing down his helmet and greeting the two canines that threw themselves at him. He practically ran into the bathroom, and dove in the shower. He was so late. He showered quickly and was dressed within minutes, a record for Jay. He did use the hairdryer to dry his hair though, that was one thing he couldn't go without. He watched in the mirror as his hair coiled into tight curls, and he ran his hand through them to check they were dry. They were. As he vacated the bathroom, Cookie and Cinnamon looked up at him with adoring eyes. He smirked. "Come on then. Let's go have a family reunion." he chuckled, reaching for Cinnamon's leash. Cookie did not need one. Clipping it onto the pup's collar, he picked up his coat and pulled it onto himself. Then the three were ready, and Jay let them out of the room. Cookie trotted just ahead of them, her cranium lifted in an almost superior manner. Cookie was much prouder since becoming a mother. It was as if she was sensing that she was going to visit Elm, who was one of her pups like Cinnamon. Her tail was wagging excitedly, and Cinnamon strained on her leash to keep up with her. Jay rolled his eyes, turning them to go toward Simon's room. He could hear the faint sound of guitar, and he cocked his head in surprise. He hadn't thought Simon played the guitar. Although he would usually just barge in, he knocked on the door politely, crossing his arms over his chest as he awaited Simon to answer. He was also still waiting on a reply from Spencer. * all the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Spencer was flying. Really. His wings had hooves and a tail, and chewed eagerly at the bit as the pair launches themselves over the jumps. Flyte's ears flew forward with his body as they reached and terminated each obstacle with a purpose. Suddenly, Spencer felt his pocket vibrate with text, and he nudged Flyte to the side, the gelding cantering and breathing hard in anticaption. Spence tapped his mouth, but it only brought the gelding to a prancing trot. His hooves beat out a dancing beat, and his breath kept time. Spencer was momentarily lost as the horse preformed the beginnnings of what could be interpreted as Dressage talent. Did Flyte actually posscess such possibility in another field?
He suddenly remembered the text and pulled out his phone, smiling as he read the I.D. He clicked his way to the message, and then quickly tapped out a reply of, Sounds like a double date. But Cheshire will probably want to accompany us. Should i lock her in the closet? He blinked as he sent the message, chuckling as he realized he'd just replied in Melissa-Speak, as he and Jay had often called it. Locking someone in a closet meant distracting them, and then leaving too quickly for them to notice. Spencer had been terrified the first time she'd used the phrase. He'd told her to distract Jay while he finished up some decorations for his boyfriend's birthday party. She'd been back ten minutes later, to his surprise. Upon his inquiry, she'd nonchalantly told him that she'd locked Jay in a closet, and that he'd be busy for at least a good hour. Spencer had freaked out, running down to Jay's room and found his boyfriend puzzling over a rubric's cube. Apperantly, Melissa had mixed it for Jay. Spencer laughed a bit at the memory, dismounting Flyte, and then realized that neither he nor Jay had ever solved that cube.
He made his way to the barn, leading Flyte to the cross ties. The horse was quickly untacked, brushed down, and given a bit of food as a reward, and then Spencer was sprinting back to his room. He dashed through the door, and nearly tripped over Ches sunning herself in the hallway's entrance. He glowered good-naturally at her. "Excuse you."
He then hit the shower, quickly scrubbing all traces of sweat from him, though a faint scent of barn still remained, as per usual. He toweled off his mop of a head and redressed, pulling on a pair of converse before leaving the bathroom, all in a record time. He passed the kitchen and grabbed his keys and phone.
As soon as Ches heard the jingle of metal, she was on the counter, climbing up his arm, and sitting on her perch. Which was his head.
He sighed, but decided against leaving her. She needed some outside time anyway. He left his room, locking the door behind him, and started to make his way down to where Simon's room was, hoping he would catch Jay in time. He recieved odd looks - thanks to Ches, no doubt - but they were ignored as he quickly made his way up the stairs, and his eyes found Jay's form. And Cookie's and Cinnamon's. When the music took over, time lost all meaning and purpose. Simon relaxed when he played, and made sure that he was able to do so. There wasn't a lot that could be said, but the male clean forgot about Jay and the fact that he was going to be seeing Hayden. His wrist stung a bit, but he pushed it to the back of his mind. Only two more weeks. It was that thought that kept him going, and Simon couldn't wait until he was given the all clear to ride again. He itched to just take a bridle and get on Vic, but then there was only one hurdle. His brother. Simon heard the knock on his dorm door, and getting up, went to open it. There was Jay with his dogs, and smile tugged at Simon's lips. The animals were positively cute, and one could see that they were friendly enough.
Hey Jay, he said in Irish vocals. Looking down the corridor, he saw Spencer coming towards them, cat on head. He gave a nervous look at the creature. He never liked cats. His step-father had had this really ugly Persian, and the thing had always enjoyed scratching and biting him. He shivered slightly at the thought. He would let it go though, but he would also stay as far away as possible. I'll be back now, he said quickly to Jay, disappearing back into his room to put away the guitar, and find his keys. The main reason was to give Spencer and Jay a few minutes alone.
Hunting down the keys, he caught a view of the College from his window. In the distance the outdoor arena could be seen, and for a few seconds Simon relived the accident. It wasn't as bad as everyone thought, but he was still trying to figure out what made Vic spook. The bay gelding was usually well-behaved, but it wasn't to say that the horse didn't spook at his own shadow. Grabbing a jacket and the keys. Right. Let's go, he said to the pair, the excitement could be heard in his voice. Two more weeks, and then he wouldn't need so many baby sitters. He didn't mind Jay, but Connor and to an extent Sarah-Jane was driving him crazy. There was a reason that he retreated into his room so often, and that was because he was scared of lashing out at the people he cared about.
If only they could see that he was fine. It would make life so much easier, but Connor was on high alert, knowing that his step-father was around. Technically, the man was also related to Connor, but it had been Simon who had to suffer the abuse. Connor might have been able to resist it.
Simon's thoughts were clearly not on where he was going, and he nearly tripped over his own feet. Just another reason for them to think that I'm a clutz, he thought to himself. He laughed it off, and started whistling the tune of Queen's A Kind of Magic.

TEMPLATE CREDIT`DEADPOOL AT CAUTION 2.0 <3 The reply he received from Spencer made him laugh aloud. He didn't bother with a reply though. He had a feeling Cheshire would be coming along. That never bothered Jay, he adored the petite feline. As did Cookie, and Cinnamon was starting to. Hayden's four dogs had no problems with cats either, so she was safe. Or rather they were safe, he had no doubt in his mind that she would hold her own against them. With another smirk, he let his eyes roam the corridor as he awaited the arrival from either Spencer or Simon to open the door. He didn't have to wait long. Spencer appeared on the top of the stairs, and a broad grin appeared on the smaller male's lips. It just grew when he took in Spencer's questionable head wear. Then Simon's door opened and Jay looked over at the male he classed as a brother. "Hello Simon." His smile had dimmed a little, but it was still the friendly fashion he reserved for people he liked and respected. Nodding when Simon retreated, he turned his attention to Spencer who was now in front of him. He immediately stretched up to place a tender kiss on his lips. He really had to stretch to do that. At 5'3, Jay was tiny compared to Spencer. He was tiny compared to a lot of people. He had no doubt in his mind that if his personality wasn't so strong, he'd be the one being bullied. With a shrug, he lowered himself back onto the flats of his feet and smiled up at his boyfriend. It was weird to think that not long ago, Jay hadn't thought he'd see Spencer again. Now they'd fallen back into the same sort of routine as if nothing had happened. "I like your hat." he commented, another smile lifting at his lips. It seemed so did Cookie, who was watching Cheshire intently, wagging her tail furiously. Jay rolled his eyes and then looked up when he heard Simon speak. There was obvious excitement radiating from the boy, causing Jay to chuckle quietly. It fell flat though, he knew what bad shape Hayden was in at the moment. He just hoped Simon could steer him away from it. Pursing his lips thoughtfully, he wondered how he was going to help his brother if this didn't work. For once, he didn't have any idea. Slipping his arm through Spencer's, he shooed Cookie on and Cinnamon attempted to pull Jay along after her mother. Jay kept his eyes trained on Simon, chuckling when the male stumbled. Jay wasn't the over reactor when it came to babysitting Simon, he pretty much didn't bother unless the other male was actually hurting. He knew that Simon didn't like being hassled, so hung back. "Hope you don't mind sitting with the dogs in the car Simon. They should leave you alone. Actually, they probably wont." he smirked, looking down at the cattle dogs. Both looked up as if they sensed him looking, grinning with their tongues lolling out the sides of their mouths. He chuckled affectionately, reaching down to ruffle Cookie's ears fondly. They were now outside of the halls, and he led the pair and their pet entourage toward his car. Opening the back door, the dogs automatically jumped in and sat side by side on the furthest seat and the middle one. Leaving the door open for Simon, he went around to the drivers side and let himself in. Once everyone was ready, he shot a smile to Spencer and then started up the vehicle. They were on the way to Hayden's in no time. He parked the car swiftly in the parking lot outside Hayden's building. Removing himself from the vehicle and then letting Cookie, Cinnamon and Simon out of the back, he awaited everyone to be out of the car before locking it. Fumbling in his pocket for the key to Hayden's apartment, knowing full well that he wouldn't answer the door, he stood close to Spencer's side as they climbed the stairs. Since he'd been away from the one he loved, he now savored every moment they had together. "I was working with Sandy today." he told Spencer quietly as they still climbed the stairs. Curse Hayden for having a apartment on a high floor. "She bit me every chance she got. Threw me more times than I could count." He held up his bruising hand for evidence. He still had no idea what he was going to do with that mare, but he did know that Spencer wouldn't like her attitude. He was hoping he'd have an input of what to do with her. They finally reached Hayden's apartment, and Jay let them in. Hayden was lounging on his couch, flicking through the channels mindlessly. He'd decided about an hour ago that he'd rather be in work and not stuck in the apartment all day. Doc was lain faithfully on the floor in front of the couch and Elm was curled up on his chest, sleeping peacefully. He had no idea where Yuki and Flora were, he guessed up to no good. He just couldn't bring himself to care. Then the rattling of the lock made him groan audibly. Elm's head shot up in surprise, a growl forming in his young chest. Hayden chuckled. "There's not much you can do, little man." he said affectionately, before picking up one of the pillows at the couch and launching it at Jay as he entered. "Go away, I'm not in the mood for your company today." he growled, looking up when he saw Yuki and Flora appear from nowhere. Then Cookie and Cinnamon flew through the door, making a beeline for Hayden. Elm shot up and began yapping earnestly, diving from Hayden and onto his mother and sister. He only just heard Jay over the commotion. "That's no way to talk to your brother who brought you a present. If you do not cheer up, I shall be forced to beat you." he threatened, and then gestured to Simon. Hayden's features lit up when he took in the form of his boyfriend. He immediately stood up, and pushed through what seemed to be a sea of canine bodies. He hadn't even noticed that Spencer was here too. As he walked over to Simon, it was obvious that Hayden wasn't himself. The jeans which used to fit him perfectly, now hung loosely on his hips. The hoodie seemed to swamp him. His complexion was pale and he had bags under his eyes. Jay actually flinched when he watched his brother. "He needs help." Jay muttered, hoping that Simon would be that help. "Your brother will kill me if he knows you here." Hayden murmured, wrapping his arms carefully around Simon. At that moment though, he couldn't bring himself to care. Jay averted his eyes and went to Spencer, holding his hand and pulling him toward the kitchen which was hidden by a wall. "What do you want to do today then handsome?" he smiled at Spencer. He was giving Hayden and Simon the privacy they needed, but he couldn't think of a better way to spend it than with Spencer. * all the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Spencer smiled down at Jay as he wrapped an arm around his boyfriend's waist, touching his cheek with a finger lightly as they waited for Simon to fetch his keys. He had acknowledged the other teen with a nod when he'd sighted him, but Spencer didn't know him that well.
Cheshire took the oppertunity to carefully crawl down Spencer's arm, stretch herself out, and then ease herself down to drape across Jay's shoulders. Spencer smiled softly at the sight. Even though he'd had Cheshire for years, she saved this action for Jay alone. She only ever sat on Spencer's shoulder when she was laying on his head and couldn't fit her butt on completely, and such an action of care from Cheshire for his beloved warmed his heart.
Then, they were off, Cookie and Cinnamon racing down the hall. Cheshire had ignored them initionally, because when Jay was around, he was her focus. It was important to focus on one's pillow. It was nearly the same story when they got into the car, Cheshire hopping from Jay's shoulder and into the backseat to rub her head under Cookie's chin, flick Cinnamon's nose with her tail, then jump elegantly back up front and to the dashmboard to sit up noblely and act like she was the Queen of Everything and All (which she actually was.)
Spencer smiled back to Jay, and reached over, taking Jay's hand in his own as his boyfriend drove, interlacing their fingers firmly.
When they reached Hayden's and were in the parking lot, Jay revealed how his day had gone. Spencer listened carefully, feeling a sadness for what he thought needed to be done. And a protectiveness for Jay that he was used to by now. He grapsed his boyfriend's hand and kissed it gently. "It might be time to consider retiring her, love." Blue eyes took on a worried gaze.
Cheshire leaped up the stairs with an easy grace as she scampered along with Cookie. The feline seemed thrilled every minute she spent with the canine. Their dynamic duo was back.
Once they made it to the apartment, Ches was suddenly flooded by dogs. She growled at them, and lifted her tail, and quickly asserted herself before making her way over to Cookie and her children.
Spencer, though, was chuckling at Jay's threat. "You shouldn't beat your brother." He told Jay, though he was watching Hayden, stunned, and he was totally out of the loop of why the other teenager would be in such a horrifying condition.
Before he could ask, Jay had pulled him aside, and was doing a really good at distracting him. "Hmm... Well. I was going to go and study for this really boring class, but then you started talking and I totally forgot about it." Simon made his wayo to the car, not all bothered that he would be sitting in the back with all the dogs. As long as there was no cats, he was fine. The drive couldn't be over soon enough, and as they left, Simon fell into his own dream world. The scenery flashed past, and before Simon knew it they had arrived at Birch Row.
Simon let Jay and Spencer walk in front, keeping his own pace. By the time he had reached Hayden's floor, he was puffing slightly. The lung issue was still bothering him, and he was walking further and further, but stairs. Stairs still evaded him. He kept muttering to himself, and hoped that nobody could hear him.
Jay opened the door, and Simon followed inside. His breath caught in his throat, and shuddered slightly when he saw what condition Hayden was in. It was a scary thought and almost immediately Simon hated himself. It was his fault that Hayden looked like that, and he didn't like it. There was a sea of dogs in the area, and Hayden battled his way through them to reach Simon. No, Connor will not, because he doesn't know. And besides, he's to busy trying to break the law than worry about me being with you. he answered lightly, wrapping his own arms around Hayden's waist. And I'm tired of everybody treating me like a porcelain doll. The accident was weeks ago. Please stop doing this to yourself Hayden. I love you too much to lose you, he said. Simon had jumped into the deep end, but he knew that Hayden needed to hear that.
