She paced quietly, her blue oracles lifting from the ground every now and then and locking on the door to the baggage claim. She rung her hands out impatiently, beginning to bite her lip. It was taking everything not to throw herself into those doors and drag him out the door herself. His flight had landed half an hour ago, more than enough time to collect his luggage as well as Rico. Many eyes were on her as her feet carried her back and forth. Any faster and she'd wear a dent into the tiled flooring. Deciding it would be better if she sat down, Summer walked over to the partially filled seating area. She perched on the edge of the hard, bluish green chairs. A man two seats down eyed her appreciatively. She did not notice, her eyes were still locked on the doors. Finally, the door opened. She shot up, then frowned when she saw a woman and a small child leave. "God dammit Sam, if you do not hurry up I'm going to be forced to kill you." she muttered under her breath, apparently not quiet enough. Three people near by eyed her nervously. She smiled at them sheepishly, and then went back to glaring at the door. More people had piled out of the light brown, wooden doors. Chatter filled the area around her, family members and friends were embracing all around. Partners had their arms wrapped around each other, staring at one another in adoration. A smile rose to Summer's lips as her eyes passed over one couple. Just over a week ago, she'd had her reunion with the one she loved. The one she now felt that she couldn't live without. A blissful sigh left her lips as she thought of Chuck. But today was for someone else she loved. There was one other male, apart from her father and Bear of course, that she adored. Her younger brother was coming to England, and not just to visit either. A little squeal of excitement left her lips then, earning a few more stares. Two women chuckled behind her, murmuring something about youngsters. Summer's own lips had lifted into a smile.
She was now engrossed in conversation with a male she recognized from the local bar. He was older, maybe in his 50's but you could tell he was a looker in his hay day. In fact, he was still pretty good looking now. His emerald oracles held a sparkle of mischief, she could place it anywhere. His salt and pepper hair framed his strong, masculine features. A stubble dusted his jaw line, sitting on slightly bronzed skin. He was asking her how life on the force was, anything interesting going on. She was more than happy to oblige him her attention, it kept her from storming over and ripping the doors open, then dragging Sam out by his ear. Little did she know that Sam had already left the luggage claim. He was leaning lazily against one of the pillars, Rico sat patiently at his side and his luggage resting on one of those trolleys that were a pain in the ass to mannover. His blue oracles were on his sister, whom he hadn't seen in a year and a half. She'd visited them not long after going to her job in Kentucky, but hadn't had the time to see her family since. She'd changed, life sparkled in those blue eyes. He was so used to seeing them with hidden pain in them that it surprised him the most. She'd put on a little weight since the last visit, which made her look so much more healthier. She'd looked painfully thin the last time, he'd practically had to force her to eat most nights. Her parents and sister put it down to stress of the move, but Sam knew different. He'd finally gotten her to tell him what was up. Apparently her ex had turned up at the academy, her anxiety levels were through the roof. But, while still with them, she'd received a phone call telling her that he had left. There was an instant change in her once again. Finally, he'd had enough of just surveying her. A grin appeared on his lips, and then parted them to address her. She still had her back to him, but he knew she'd know it was him as soon as she heard him. "Y'know Sis, I expected this Chuck to be a little.. younger? No offence man." he chuckled, looking at the man and gave him a slight nod. The expression on the other man's face made Sam's features harden though. Obviously the older male wished he were younger so he could get her hands on the pretty female.
All resentment left his expression when she sprung up, spinning around and throwing herself at him. "Sammy!" she squealed, knowing full well that she was the only person that got away with calling him that. Her arms wrapped around him, and he returned the gesture. Rico's leash was thankfully long enough that it wouldn't cause discomfort for the large canine. When they pulled apart, she glared at him accusingly. His expression wasn't mad, more confused than anything. Suddenly, her hand lashed out and she smacked his arm. "Hey! Ouch, what was that for?" he asked, his expression still confused. "Why did it take you so long to get out here?! Your plane landed over an hour ago!" she accused him. He gave a deep, stomach clenching laugh. "I thought I was really in trouble then. Sorry Summer, Rico is much more popular than myself. Everyone and their cousin was stopping to fuss him. And you know how much he loves fusses." he was still laughing, earning another smack from her. "Oww! I missed you too Summer." he forced himself from smirking at her, he knew she'd just clip him over the head. Summer took a step back, her oracles raking over her brother. Gone was the lanky teenager she'd left back in California two years ago. In his place was a well toned, handsome man. Her tears filled up a little, pride pulling at her expression. "Where did my little brother go?" she said quietly, causing Sam to roll his eyes. She then looked at him thoughtfully. "Bet I could still kick your ass." she taunted him, prodding him in the stomach. She was not surprised to feel the muscle that restrained the action. Shaking her head in slight disbelief, she reached up to pat the side of his face affectionately. He shook her off, but was smiling. It was as if they'd never been away from one another.
Rico decided that he'd had enough of being ignored and strained on his leash. His large, lumbering frame launched at Summer, nearly knocking her over from the force of his paws. She didn't bat him off though, she was used to Bear doing exactly the same thing. The Malamute reached up to slobber over her face, whining excitedly as he did so. She wrapped her arms around him and placed a kiss on the top of his head. "I missed you too Rico." she cooed, ruffling his fur gently. Sam rolled his eyes. Rico was surely having a lot of attention today. Pulling him away from his sister, he linked arms with her. Looking down at her, his stomach then growled on cue. "I'm starved. Almost wasting away!" he proclaimed dramatically, pointing at his stomach to solidify the fact. Summer just rose a brow at him, her lips pulled into a straight line. "You're always hungry." she told him truthfully, and he nodded. They were now walking from the airport, Summer holding onto Rico's leash and Sam pushing the trolley. It was obvious the pair were siblings. Their hair was exactly the same shade, their eyes both a startling blue color. Their lips were also the same shape, but Sam still managed to make his more masculine and Summer's very much feminine. They both had a slight out turn in their feet, their parents had often told them they walked a little like ducks did. The pair would then proceed to begin with their duck impressions, causing both parents to chuckle. Their sister had always rolled her eyes, but secretly amused by the antics. Both had the habit of clicking their fingers when nervous, and scratched their chin as they thought. Although Sam stood at least four inches taller than his sister, their builds were also very similar. Both were lean, and slim in build. Each had an elegant way of holding themselves, giving the impression that they were very comfortable in their own skins. They were. The only time Summer hadn't held herself that way was when it was beaten out of her. As she thought of that, her chin lifted a little higher. That part of her life was over now. A new chapter, a new beginning.
She slammed the trunk of the vehicle shut as Sam took the trolley over to the trolley park. Ushering Rico into the back seat, she gave the dog a fond pat before closing the door. Sam had returned now, and was watching his sister carefully. She had so much confidence radiating from her now that it was infectious. "I'm going to take you to Milly's." she looked up and caught him looking at her. She just smiled, but didn't comment. She knew it had been hard for him to see her how she had been, and she knew it was nice for him to be able to relish in the new sister. He'd taken it the hardest when the family found out about the exes. She also knew that he was itching to meet Chuck, but not for the good reasons. She knew Sam wanted to interrogate him, making him uncomfortable. They were now inside the car, and she shifted uncomfortably under the weight of her thoughts. "I won't be too hard on him." Sam offered quietly, he knew her so well. She looked at him carefully, seeing that he was telling the truth. The smile she flashed him was radient, and he reached out to squeeze her arm affectionately. "Let's go get some grub then!" he announced suddenly, causing Rico's tail to thump the back of Summer's chair in agreement. With a soft chuckle, she started the vehicle and they were soon on their way into town. She wasn't usually one to used the car, but with the luggage and the fact that Sam would complain the whole way into town, it was necessary. The younger male's oracles graced the scenery as they drove along, pleasantly surprised at how pretty it was. The town was quaint, peaceful and had a modest feel to it.
They soon arrived at Milly's, and Summer assured him that Rico was also welcome into the cafe as long as he behaved. Sam shot a glance at the large dog, but nodded. Summer was out of the vehicle first, closely followed by Rico who had climbed over the front seats of the car and come out her door. Sam then picked himself out. As soon as Summer had closed her door, she heard the friendly chimes of a few primary school students. She'd been there the other day, doing a talk on road safety. Caroline was supposed to do it, but her granddaughter had been ill and had to stay home to take care of her. "Afternoon Officer Holmes." they called, giggling happily when she turned to smile at them. "Hello guys. Where's your parents?" she asked them in concern. Just then, a mother emerged from one of the stores. She saw Summer and waved, which Summer returned. Sam had come up behind her, smirking in amusement. Summer watched as the woman transferred her gaze onto Sam, a visible swoon coming from her. Summer frowned a little, but didn't say more. Sam had his eyes on Rico, who was intently snuffling the ground on the trail of something or other. "Everyone knows you already? Hmm, I guess I have a good family reputation to keep up then." he mused to his sister, earning a dig in the ribs. His tone fell serious once he was done laughing. "Is lover boy meeting us here?" he questioned, looking at his sister carefully. She gave a slight shrug. "I told him that we would be in Milly's at about ten minutes from now. If he does turn up, he didn't tell me specifically." Her tone was cautious, wondering what Sam would pick up from her words. She wasn't really that bothered, at least she would be able to have Sam to herself if Chuck didn't come, but she also wanted the introductions to be over and done with as soon as possible.
The siblings walked toward Milly's, chattering about random memories that sprang to mind as they did so. Summer pushed open the door, letting her eyes glide over the room carefully. It was pretty empty, but everyone who was inside recognized the pretty face of the neighbourhood police officer. Smiling politely to those who smiled at her, she walked over to the counter to where Milly was. She liked a regular update of what was going on. "Afternoon Milly. This is Sam, and his dog Rico. I've assured him that you don't mind Rico being here." she smiled as she introduced her brother. Milly blinked at Sam, but did nothing more. Summer knew the woman was more than a little blind, and also going deaf. That was why she had to go up to the counter to speak to her. "Any news dear?" she asked, raising a smile to both siblings lips. "Not today Milly, but as soon as I hear something good you'll be the first to know." she promised. Milly smiled at her warmly, and gestured that they could sit anywhere. Summer picked up a couple of menus before she left, and then led Sam over to the last remaining window booth. The pair slid onto a bench each and Rico crawled under the table. Summer was amused to see that he fit very snugly under there. Tossing one of the menus to Sam, his oracles began to assess it carefully. They decided quickly, placing their menus aside as they waited for a waitress to appear.
It didn't take long. A petite, blonde haired female sauntered up to them. Her expression was sullen until her eyes fell on Sam. They widened in pleasant surprise, happy to have a gorgeous customer to stare at for the next hour or so. Summer snorted in amusement, causing Sam to look up. He'd been inspecting his nails while the waitress approached. He turned around and then gave a little jump back in surprise. The female was leaning a little too close for comfort. Summer laughed again, but then rattled off the orders for both of them. "One diet coke and one sprite, one Burger and Chips," she remembered to say chips instead of fries, knowing that wasn't the word used for them here. "And a Cheese burger and chips." she smiled sweetly at the waitress, handing over the menus. Sam watched the waitress disappear, a slight shudder passing along his spine. "Is everyone so... friendly here?" he questioned, taking a while to pick out the right describing word. Summer just smirked, and he took that as a yes. The drinks arrived quickly, but they were told that their food would still be a while yet. The pair didn't mind, and soon settled into conversation. Most of it was about the family the pair had left behind, Summer asking how everyone was etc, etc. As they spoke, she realized just how much she'd missed Sam. A smile pulled at her lips in reaction to the fact that she was so relieved that he was finally with her once again. Job one of the day, done. Now she just had to wait and see if job two was even going to occur.
