Glen parked the truck outside the station, lunch on the passenger seat. It was around midday, and Katie was still at school. Tyler had taken the lunch shift with another medic, so that Glen could spend some time with his wife. They were still organising a pony for Katie, and time was scarce. He had taken up some of the night shifts, so he hardly had time for home, something that he regretted. He enjoyed nothing more than helping with homework, or just being around his family.
The station was anything but busy, but Nancy was still hard at work. She had pulled up her blonde hair into a ponytail, her fringe hanging loose. She hardly noticed the familiar truck pull up outside, but she did feel the warm lips kiss her neck. Hey love, she said, a tired smile on her face. She turned to face him, and looked surprised at the food that he bought. Checking on the clock, Nance was shocked to see that it was lunch. I'd knew you'd forget to eat, so I picked up sandwiches, Glen said, seeing the look she gave him. I knew it was bought. If you had made them, then it would be a hurricane outisde, she joked, a mischivious smile on her face.
Glen seated himself opposite her, and it was odd knowing that when he had first met his wife, she was his superior and also a paramedic. He laughed quietly, and shook his head at the memories. Busy day? Nancy asked him, before taking a bite of the smoked salmon, cottage cheese on rye. Glen shook his head. Not really. Hypertension in one man, and a drunk found in the park with a broken ankle, he said, summing up the day's patients so far.
