Bella had started bringing in the horses later than usual. It was sunny out, so she was kind and allowed them the time to keep frolicking in the paddock. They looked like yearling colts playing in the area, their happiness visible. Personally she couldn’t wait for summer, but what would the season yield? In little less than three weeks, Kian was leaving and she couldn’t even bear the thought of him doing so. Even thinking about it made her heart ache. The fact that he had kissed her, and shaken up her world to an extent that even she couldn’t find was worse, but it had been so amazing. She didn’t regret kissing him back. She didn’t regret making her feelings known, and she still smiled at the thought. Then again, she had also slapped him, mainly because it was so unexpected, but well, it had been a fun thing to do. She hoped that she had knocked some sense into him (Highly unlikely m’dear). The future was always uncertain. Her twin had bought that revelation to her eyes. Her brother of all people, but deep down she always knew. She had been afraid to say anything though, in case it wasn’t true, but she had been right in the end. It wasn’t that she didn’t like Jake, he was a pretty decent guy, and she just didn’t see Andrew, her brother, as gay. She was happy for him though; happy that he had finally found someone who was treating him right, even if Jake was three years older.
-- Alexi sat in the paddock, enjoying the rare moments of sun that there was. He allowed it to play across his face and create images in his mind. He could still remember colours. They were faint memories, but they were there. His mind was made up of colours, his thought patterns were colours. His music was sounds that only his trained ears seemed to pick up. He allowed a smile to cross his face, and settle into place. In the distance he heard the sounds of hoof beats, the smooth ones of Cody and slight uneven ones of Pan. He heard Casey give a tired bark in the enclosure before bounding up to Alexi. He gave the dog a pat, feeling his companion settling in next to him, the dog resting his head on Cody’s lap. He could imagine the scene with a few black spots. That was when he had someone explain the rest of the area to him. Then, like a painter, his image of the area filled his mind and he could happily have it play out. People said that they couldn’t see anything, so why should they explain it to the blind. Alexi hated the ignorant more than anything, but he wanted nothing more to change their views. People with a shutter around their eyes would hardly ever change their mind. It was too bad actually. How he could enlighten them.
-- Bella led in Manor, preferring the company of the black gelding to Biscuit or Flame. Manor just knew her, and didn’t bother to hassle her by being a fussy idiot during her bad spells. It had taken a while to get him like that though, and when she had started riding him, he was an idiot and had no thought pattern but to buck. Her meandering walk made her sink deeper into her thoughts, not that she minded. They were mostly consumed with images of Kian and that smile of his. Not the sly one, the one she hated, but the one that he had when he was happy about something or being gentle. Gentle wasn’t an attribute that you would associate with Kian, but he had that side. It was a different view on Kian when he was like that, but she also loved the bickering, annoying side. Manor nibbled her hair, and pushed her slightly, asking her to pick up the speed. Poking the horse gently in the nose, she complied. The stable block came into view, and soon the pair was nearing the stalls. Exchanging Manor’s turnout rug for his stable rug she started talking softly to the horse. Her words were inaudible but then again they were meant for Manor’s ears only.
-- Alexi leaned back against the fence, his original position changing only slightly as he stretched out his legs. His thoughts turned to Bella, and the fact that she was saying very little to him at the moment. He really was sorry for going off about Kian, but it seemed that every time he opened his mouth, the wrong things came pouring out. It was bloody annoying and it prevented him saying sorry in a decent fashion. Somehow, he and Bella always got along with their stubbornness. He had no feelings for her beyond that of a sister, and to him she really was a sister. Too bad he had the protective streak as well. It was what Bella shied away from. She left America because Andrew was a controlling git, and now here he was, and turning into one as well. It was damned annoying that was for sure. If there was a wall nearby then he would most likely have it, but seeing that he didn’t he would have to breathe through his irritation. They were adults now, why couldn’t they act like it.
-- Bella had bought in the other two horses in about twenty minutes ago, and Flame was now getting up his usual antics of being a pain in the back side. A wash with guilt feelings thanks to Kian she thought about who she was going to tell. Either way, Alexi or Dafydd, their reaction would be the same, except one would be more measured and hopefully calmer than the other. Alexi wasn’t going to be the calm one about it, which was for sure. Rather than delay it any longer, she left the stable block taking the long route around to the dorms. Maybe she was hoping for a public scene, but then again, she didn’t know what she wanted. She knew that she wanted Kian, but he wasn’t a prize trophy. He was a person, but a person she cared deeply for. Truly, madly, deeply was how it was, and she had no spade to dig herself out of the feelings she felt. It was hard enough to face them, but run was what she would not do. She found Alexi easily enough. Of course he was with his horses. “Hey stranger,” she said, knowing that that was partly her fault. Ever since the confrontation in the office Bella had been avoiding Alexi apart for classes, but even then they hadn’t spoken to each other.
-- Alexi felt as Pan decided to seek his owner, and rubbed the horses’ cheek as the gelding snuffled around him. Feeling the gelding pull his head up and neigh a welcome to someone behind them. Casey also increased his pace of wagging his tail. Then he heard Bella speaking, and a small frown crossed his face. “Just remember who stopped talking,” he answered shortly, his frustration showing in his face and being heard in his voice. There was a quick, but awkward silence. “I’m sorry, but you were seriously over reacting. Kian is really not that bad,” she answered back, her tone on the verge of anger. Kian picked it up, but still chose to put his foot in his mouth. “Well, I wouldn’t be acting like that if you left the guy alone. Seriously Bella, I never took you to be stupid,” he spoke, his own anger rising. He stood up, feeling for Casey, who came to his side. He turned around to face Bella, and even though he couldn’t see her, he could guess that she had a face like thunder. When they started bickering, well, then you were in for a royal fight.
-- Bella felt the bubble of anger starting in her stomach, and she swallowed back the bile that was rising. It was to the point of sickening her. If there was something she hated, then it was fighting with her best friend. “Stupid! How dare you Alexi! I’m sick of you trying to protect me! I’m sick of you judging everything I do! Do you even care that I found someone that I care about! Just leave me alone!” she shouted, not caring how audible her voice was. She marched off, furious tears pricking her eyes. She was seething at this point, red dots appearing in her vision. She knew that Alexi was only looking (excuse the pun) for her best needs, but it was getting to be too much. She had to make mistakes to learn, but Kian wasn’t a mistake. Was he?
-- Alexi allowed her tirade. He knew that Bella wasn’t one that could be wrapped into cotton wall and placed on a shelf. She was a feisty one, and now that she had her independence how could he take it away. She was right (as always) and he knew that he would have to find her to apologise. He would give her a day or two to simmer down, and then in his quiet manner would say sorry. Hopefully she would accept, but it would be hard work. He seated himself back against the fence post, his face thoughtful, but his emotions holding a world of regret in them.
