Max lay quite comfortably on his back, looking up at the night sky. The stars shone their radiance, and performed the dance that he had come to know and love. Though the nights were still nippy, he really wasn't cold. He was lying on a picnic blanket, and he had managed to find a pillow in the barns. The pastures were quiet, the only sounds being heard that of the night time animals and the occasional horse snorting or walking around. It was during times like these that he felt truly at peace, something that was an unknown feeling these days. Reconciling with Ieuan almost a month ago was something that he still replayed in his mind, mainly because it confirmed that was truly, madly, deeply in love with Ieuan.
His classes were going well, and his grandparents had postponed their visit for another month. His horses were providing endless entertainment. There were just so many reasons that he was happy. Max's grey eyes scanned the sky, reveling in the mass of gas balls that were out there. Moments like these was when he really appreciated being alive. The strange thing was that when he had left the Academy a year ago, for reasons he still couldn't tell Ieuan, he had spent months wasting away, becoming a shell of who he had been. He shivered at the thought, and pushed it to the back of his mind.

He'd been wandering all day, unable to settle in one place for longer than five minutes. He had no idea why, his mind was just restless. He'd barely spoken a word all week. And the few he spared were for Kian, whom had been a little worried about his friend. Ieuan had had to reassure him. Apart from that, the words were reserved for his horses. Lady had been in the pastures today for the first time in a week, due to the fact that she had been lame. She was still a little tender, but not enough to be kept inside any longer. He was pretty sure she'd go insane if she was kept cooped up for much longer. His three equines were in their stalls for the night, and he didn't want to disturb them. So he found himself wandering aimlessly, much like how the rest of his day had gone.
Ieuan suddenly had the urge to be with Max. He hadn't seen the one he loved in a while, and missed holding him in his arms. Ieuan was passing by the round pen when he felt a familiar tug toward the pastures. It seemed that every time he was in search of Max, his heart automatically knew where to find him. His feet moved silently, as if they weren't touching the floor at all. He kept walking until his feet came to an automatic halt in front of the pasture which held Max. He climbed over the fence with ease, barely making a sound, and walked over to where Max was lain. He lowered himself down beside his love, leaning onto his side so that he could just look at Max. He remained completely silent, reaching out to run a finger along the line of Max's jaw and then slung his arm over the other male's chest. The urge to keep moving had completely evaporated, he was comfortable again. A deep sigh came from his chest, and he blinked slowly. If only he'd found Max earlier in the day.

Max knew that once those thoughts grabbed hold of him, it would be a while until they relented enough to make him live in peace again. He also knew that he should tell Ieuan the truth about why he left, why he had just disappeared, and all that he left was a letter. The pain of that night still had some hold over him, and now it was a terrible moment for him, because he knew that once he had told Ieuan, then he would have very little to keep about himself. His heart tugged towards finding hi love, but it seemed that Ieuan had found him first. Like a ghost, Ieuan settled himself on the blanket, and traced Max's jawline. Max took pleasure in the touch, and it helped him calm his mind to an extent that was thinking rationally.
Max laced his fingers through Ieuan's and he heard the contented sigh. This was strange behaviour coming from his boyfriend, but maybe the magic of the night had affected everyone. Max's breathing was regulated, even, and held no signal of what he was about to say. I never left Blue Ridge because I wanted to Ieuan. I would never have put myself or you through that pain if I actually had a choice, he said softly, his voice more than whisper. He had closed his eyes, the memories came flooding back.
I was scared of what I had gotten into. I loved you, I still you, but I was naive, stupid. I was scared of committing to something that I couldn't get myself out of. It runs in the family it seems, he said, his vocals strained slightly. Hopefully Ieuan could grasp what he was trying to say, and just keep quiet until he was finished. I left because our family was being threatened by the same person my dad would be testifying against at the trial. He threatened to kill us off one by one, for every year that he got sentanced. Mom would have none of it, called me back, and started a police case. In the end, a massive syndicate was found, links to the mafia being part of it. I lost my you, lost myself, and almost killed myself because I couldn't take it any more. he recited the story. He had a broken family, but they remained close. His father had been cut out of any will, and in so doing all his bonds had been broken with his family.
Park had been my mother's idea. She couldn't accept that I wanted to go back to Kentucky, and she put on a plane and sent me. By some chance, you also ended up here, he concluded, his grey orbs looking into those of Ieuan. He was absorbed, and wondered what Ieuan would say to him. Apart from the fact that he was the world's biggest idiot, and needed a reality check.

Though Max wasn't showing too much of a sign of what he was going to say next, deep down, Ieuan could feel that something was wrong. And, he was right. A sharp intake of breath racked through his frame when Max spoke, but he remained silent. Somehow, he knew that the boy had to get everything out, and Ieuan wasn't going to prevent that. His own eyes closed when Max's did, the power of the other male's words washing over him. Anger welled up inside him momentarily. Why didn't Max tell him these things before? He suppressed the anger though, and was a little startled that he could actually do that. Usually it just over took him. He opened his eyes just as Max came to the last part of his speech, his own mind still stuck on the part that he could have lost Max. Permanently. He locked eyes with Max, worry dancing through his own blue orbs. "Come here." he said softly, sitting up and pulling Max into his arms. His tone was hoarse, not used to keeping quiet for so long. He held Max tight to his chest, pressing his lips into the crook of his boyfriends neck. Though the circumstances shouldn't relax him, they did. Max was here, and that was all that mattered.
Ieuan finally pulled away slightly, but kept his arms tightly around Max. "You should have told me Max, I would have understood." he murmured. And then rethought it. "Maybe not straight away, but I would have tried. And another thing, you never lost me. Yeah, I'm an ass and I've treated you like crap over the past month or so, but you never lost me." He smiled softly at this, realizing that each word was true. Though there was so much drama going on in their lives, Ieuan knew he adored Max more than anything. Why he'd doubted this before, he never knew. "Cheer up Max. I'm not going anywhere unless you send me away. I'm afraid your stuck with me this time." he laughed softly, looking Max in the eye. Ieuan's mood was strange, he had been this.. mellow in well.. forever. But he liked it, it seemed to fit the atmosphere perfectly. He couldn't help but wonder why he was currently like this though. With a shrug of his shoulders, he returned his attention to the male he held in his arms, a smile tugging at his lips as he did so.

Max didn't know what Ieuan's reaction was going to be. He would have understood if the male just got up and walked off, he would be heartbroken, but it would have been understandable. He would blame himself naturally, and try and talk himself through it. Yet he did not expect the reaction he got. Ieuan pulled him into an embrace, and Max softened knowing that these things were in the past. Everything was fine now, he had Ieuan back and that was all that mattered. His life was complete now, and he was glad that he Ieuan back, even if he was forced to comprehend some aspects that he had wished to turn a blind eye too.
Ieuan spoke of understanding, and Max raised an eyebrow. Where the hell was the Ieuan he knew? He didn't care, he actually liked this subdued version of his boyfriend. He let Ieuan finish speaking, and fought back the choked sobs that were threatening to come. He looked Ieuan in the eye, a smile playing on his lips. This is what happiness felt like. He just knew it. I'll never send you away my love, he said quietly. The moment was one to be remembered, and Max leaned in to kiss Ieuan. It was tender, passionate and sent fire dancing in his veins. Max would never want to leave.
