Ieuan leaned against the fence of the pasture as he watched the three equines inside. Lady and Maddy stood side by side, pressed very close to one another. The two mares were inseparable, Lady found her safety in the dun Saddlebred. Laurence, the bay Arabian who wasn't as fond of the mares, stood off to the left, glaring at the pair every now and then. Ieuan rolled his eyes, but didn't bother to go and keep the gelding company. His mind was still swarmed with confusion, anger and frustration. Max had gone to Germany. For a holiday, yes. But that didn't mean that Ieuan missed him any less. He had no idea where Chris was, and right now couldn't bring himself to care. He could go and search for Dafydd, but since his confrontation with Kristin, he'd been avoiding his uncle. No doubt the woman would have told Dafydd about the night. So Ieuan was stuck in the company of the horses. He didn't mind, but he couldn't talk to them about it. Well, he could. But they'd have nothing to say about it. With a sigh, he climbed up onto the fence and perched on it easily. His arms crossed over his chest and he continued to stare out ahead of himself.
Kian pulled up in the black town cab in front of the college in silence. The cab driver took the money from him and then he climbed out. He had a duffel bag full of clothes, that was it. Being in jail most of the time meant that you didn't really need many possessions. A smirk pulled at his lips at that thought. He was supposed to go straight to the main office to see Dafydd, but he decided against that. Instead he was going to hunt down the only person he was sure to like while here. Ieuan. He knew about the troubles his friend had been having over the past few weeks, Dafydd had kindly filled him in. Actually, Dafydd had warned him not to wind Ieuan up any more than he already was. Kian had listened for once, he didn't want to distress his friend any more than he already was. Deciding that Ieuan would be with his horses somewhere, he first headed toward the barns. He checked the one someone had told him was for student own horses. Well, he'd demanded they show him. The person hadn't once looked in his eyes. Ieuan wasn't there, he also didn't see any trace of Laurence or Maddy, the horses he guessed his friend still owned. He still remembered the pair very clearly. Ieuan had only just had Maddy before Kian was thrown into jail once again. Kian's expression hardened as he remembered that, his lips curling into a snarl. He grabbed the nearest person my the shoulder and looked at them with his icy glare. "Do you know where Ieuan Rees is?" he snapped, causing the kid to whimper. "He's.. he's in the pastures!" the kid stammered. Kian released him and asked for directions. The kid pointed hesitantly toward a wide path, big enough to lead horses along, and Kian immediately began to follow it. He came across his friend quickly, a smirk which was almost friendly appearing on his lips. "Hello man whore." he called, amusement hinting in his usually sullen vocals.
Ieuan looked around when he heard the familiar vocals, a smile breaking out over his worn out expression. "They've finally set you free have they jailbird?" he taunted back, causing a gruff bark of laughter to come from his friend. "God, I've missed you. What are you doing here anyway?" Ieuan asked, interest marring his vocals. Just the presence of his childhood friend cheered him up. As much as Kian seemed to be a horrid human being, Ieuan knew he did have a good side. Sadly, Ieuan was the only one ever to see it. "Your uncle is my new child minder. Your stuck with me until my parole is up at least." he chuckled darkly, to which Ieuan smirked. Same old Kian. Kian's eyes scanned the three equines in the pasture, gaze lingering on the dapple gray. "Hey, she's a pretty one. When'd you get her?" he asked. "Oh, and where is your lumbering canine?" He referred to Crychau, Ieuan's idiot for a dog. "That's Lady, got her from an auction just before I moved up here. Oh, he's around here somewhere." he answered both questions, and then looked up when the was the rustle of leaves in a near by bush. Crychau's wrinkled cranium appeared, and both males smirked. "There he is." they said in unison, and then chuckled. It felt so good to have someone they could both trust to be with again. It was safe to say they'd missed each other a lot.
"So, you going to spill about your antics?" Kian asked after they'd sat in silence for a while. Kian was now perched on the fence beside Ieuan, looking at his friend out of the corner of his eye. Ieuan's chest heaved in a deep sigh, but then started with his tale. He started with when he'd walked into the cafeteria to see Max and Chris together for the first time, and ended with Max going to Germany. He didn't miss out a single detail. "S**t Ieuan. I thought I was messed up." he joked, causing Ieuan to laugh. "I know, I know. I have no idea what to do. But at least now your back I have a drinking buddy again." He grinned at Kian, who nodded solemnly. "You can count on me, brawd." He used the Welsh word for brother, a term the pair always referred to one another as. They weren't brothers of course, but they'd grown up together. Even when Kian had gone off the rails, Ieuan was still the only person he would ever, ever trust. They lapsed back into a comfortable silence, mulling over their thoughts. They were just glad to be in one another's presence once again.

Bella led the black gelding towards his paddock that he shared with his stable mates. A turnout rug covered his muscular frame, and every few steps he raised his finely shaped Thoroughbred head to check out his surroundings. It was becoming quite annoying, because a walk to the paddocl usually took 10 minutes from the stable block. So far it had taken 25. Bella stayed calm, and knew that Manor required more patience than her other horses. Samson, her Golden Retriever, trotted faithfully just ahead of them, and made sure that his mistress was safe.
It had been like that since the accident when she had gotten him as a puppy. Even then he had shown courage, but could be a coward at the most of times. Manor had finally settled into a sedate walk, and the trio made their way to the paddock. Manor decided to rest his head on Bella's, but used to this, she slowed down fractionally to accommodate the horse. She slung the lead rope over his neck, knowing that the horse wouldn't do anything stupid.
Bella hadn't ridden that day, not yet anyway, but Manor was the last that she was turning out. She was clad in her usual pair of skinny jeans, long sleeved shirt and hoodie. The only addition was the light scarf that she had slung around her neck, and fingerless gloves. She had traded her converse trainers for a pair of paddock boots and chaps.
Samson suddenly stopped, and his fur raised a bit. He gave a new meaning to having his hackles raised. Easy boy. What is it? she asked softly, already looking for a cause of the dog's uneasiness. Ahead, on one of the fences, sat two males, one which she recognised as Ieuan, the principal as well as her mentor's nephew. She merely raised an eyebrow, knowing that Samson had picked up the fact that they were bad news. A low growl escaped the dogs maw, and gave a sharp bark. Bella kept walking, and ignored the two, and in the end Samson also followed.

Ieuan and Kian had began to reminisce the old times when the disturbance occurred. Crychau was now lain under the male's feet, occasionally lifting his cranium to make sure they were still there. The normally placid dog rose to his feet when the growling started though, his own hackles rising as he stared at the dog. He didn't growl back though, and the hackles were in no league of the other. But Ieuan was surprised, he'd never seen his mastiff's hackles up, not even when the cats attacked him. Kian was already looking over his shoulder, his icy glare landing upon a female. His lips curled into a silent snarl, almost imitating Crychau's one. Ieuan was the first to speak up, recognizing the girl as Bella, another student Dafydd had taken under his wing. "Keep that dog under control Bella." he called, just loud enough for her to hear. Then he turned to Kian, keeping his tone as the same as before. "He can sense your a murder, jailbird." he taunted, earning a punch in the arm from his companion. But both were chuckling darkly. "And a rapist too." he added, following Ieuan's example for the girl to hear.
They watched the girl continue down the path with an equine who seemed to want to take all the time in the world. At that thought, Ieuan cast a glance at his Arabian gelding. Laurence was exactly the same. Kian seemed to have an appraising look on his face. "She's kinda hot. In a moody, depressing kind of way." Kian told Ieuan. "Dude, I'm gay remember? Plus, I wouldn't if I were you. Uncle D'll have your balls if you so much as touch her arm 'innocently'." Kian looked at his friend questioningly, wondering how Dafydd could have anything more to do with this girl than be her principal. "He's her 'mentor'. In other words, she's kinda like a daughter to him and he's like a father to her. That's the easiest way to explain it anyway." Kian nodded, eyes finding the retreating girl once again. "Y'know, that makes me want her more." Kian smirked, but Ieuan looked at him sternly. "Don't Kian." he warned him, causing Kian to raise a brow. But he nodded slowly, averting his eyes from the female. He knew he was playing way too close to home. Ieuan huffed in relief. He glanced down to Crychau, who had now settled and had been distracted by Lady and Maddie whom had started up a game. He bounded around them excitedly, barking at them every now and then.
"I'mma go for a walk." Kian told Ieuan. Ieuan looked at him suspiciously, but nodded. "Don't go after her though Kian. Honestly, I don't need more grief. Dafydd will kill me, and then you, if he knew I let you go anywhere near her. Talk to her, yes. Go any further and I will castrate you." Kian had to laugh at his friend, but knew Ieuan wasn't bluffing. He pat his friend on the shoulder and then jumped down from the fence. He left his duffel bag there, knowing he'd be going back shortly. He saw that the girl and the horse and jogged to catch up with them. As he reached her, he slowed to match her pace. He kept a little ways away from her too, eying her dog suspiciously. "Nice day, isn't it? Unusual for around here. 'specially this time of year." He forced his tone to be friendly, easy going and natural. He was a good actor, very good in fact. He momentarily pondered taking Drama when he finally got around to sorting out his timetable. "I'm Kian by the way. Kian Landeg." he offered in the same airy tone. "Whom may you be?" Inside he was chuckling darkly, but it didn't show on his expression. Looking at her pleasantly, awaiting her answer. He knew her name was Bella, from Ieuan shouting at her. But he wanted to hear it from her mouth.

Samson! Bella called sharply to the dog, who ceased his barking and moved to her side. Ieuan could somehow get under skin, but today it took a lot faster than usual, mainly because she wasn't in the best of moods, and already had a headache coming on. Don't worry Ieuan. He only attacks when I tell him to, she called back. Samson kept his guard, but Manor was still ignorant of the situation. Then the two males started teasing each other, or at least she hoped so. It was loud enough for her to hear, and it wasn't in any funny, but then Ieuan did have a sick sense of humor.
One thing that Bella was grateful for was having Ieuan's uncle behind her. Well, it was useful to have some form of back up in the higher rankings. A smirk played on her face, but soon returned to the passive one that she liked carrying. Long gone were the days that she was timid enough to be picked on.
Samson growled again, this time without showing his teeth too much, and pressed right against her leg. Turning her head slightly, Bella noticed the one male catch up to her. She rolled her eyes when she turned her head again, and tried to hold her tongue. I was serious you know. He does attack when I tell him to, she said, when she saw the look the male gave the dog. I wouldn't know. I've only been here a few months, she answered coldly, ignoring him flat out the rest of the time. Her manners forced her to reply with her name, but her interest went no further than what a boulder could be thrown. Annabelle Black, just Bella though. Pleasure to meet you Kian, she answered, this time her American vocals slightly warmer than an ice block.
Bella kept her scathing remarks to herself, not really wanting any more attention from the male sub-species that this one may have originated from. Her expression held one of a slight annoyance, but that could be put down to the fact that Manor was walking so slow. When it was necessary he turned into a snail, and then when she wanted to take her time, Manor pulled her along and nearly killed her along the way.

Ieuan watched Kian as he approached Bella, his frame tense with anticipation. He listened out for Kian's tone and was more than a little relived at what he heard. But Bella's rebuke wasn't going to keep him calm for long. Ieuan growled quietly to himself and jumped off the fence. Walking further into the pasture, he approached the playing mares who instantly stopped and both came toward him. Lady pressed her maw affectionately into his cheek and Maddie clasped onto the sleeve of his jacket. He chuckled, his worries of Kian's antics leaving him. Crychau came up behind his master and then pushed around to his front. Leaning down to pat him affectionately, Ieuan was quite content to remain in the pastures for the remainder of the day.
Kian's expression hardened as she spoke to him first. His oracles flashed with anger, becoming hard, cold and unwelcoming. "I wouldn't threaten me if I were you." he snarled, his expression hard to read. It was an obvious mix of anger and disgust, as well as a daring, threatening undertone. "We weren't joking back there, and I don't think you'd want to end up as victim number two now, would you?" he asked airily, his expression softening that slightest little bit. His oracles were still cold though, they wouldn't warm for the remainder of the conversation now. He'd often been told that his gray shaded eyes reminded others of icebergs. Right now, it seemed pretty accurate. He completely ignored her answer to his question, not that interested in it really. He payed attention when she spoke her name though, and gave a dark chuckle as she added the last part of the sentence. "We'll see how much of a pleasure it is." he smirked, then fell into silence once again.
He let his eyes grace the beast she was leading, his expression much more relaxed and warm. Horses were an animal which had always awed him, their beauty and elegance were obviously something to be impressed by. This one was no different. Where as Ieuan's horses were much more delicate and petite, this horse was much bigger, and sturdier looking. "Who's this?" he asked, keeping his eyes on the horse. He knew that if he looked at the girl, his expression would harden once again. He was still a little annoyed by her threatening him with her mutt. If she had a little sense in that pretty head of hers, she'd rethink that before she spoke to him again. He remained in silence as he awaited her to reply, keeping his stride equal to hers. He had a pretty lengthy stride usually, he got on a lot of peoples nerves by walking too fast ahead of them. But Bella intrigued him, and deliberately had fallen into step with him. He had a faint idea that it may annoy her too. That was always a bonus.

It seemed that Samson was sulking again. The dog was a moody one, and sometimes felt that he was being ignored. Now was one of those times. The golden retriever walked behind the small group, his tail drooping. Whistling, Bella called the dog, and he perked up, taking his place at his mistresses side, and he stuck his head into her free hand. Kian's tone hardened, but Bella didn't bother to pay much attention to his threat. And I don't give a stuffing what you did before, she answered back, a cheerful smile framing her face, and giving him a smirk. I've faced a lot worse than a death threat, she added, keeping her eyes ahead on the track.
There was quiet after Kian's last comment. Like all males, he felt the need to annoy her as much as possible. Manor decided to shift his attention to the person walking on the other side of him. Giving Bella one last look, he planted his own, fairly large head, on Kian's. Bella just smirked, knowing that the horse wouldn't allow himself to be evaded. This is Portland Manor. Manor for short, she answered him, her tone a lot warmer than the previous few times. By now, he had fallen into the same stride as she was walking, and if it had been anybody else, she would have told them to bugger off. Yet this Kian character intrigued her, and she did want to know more about him. She allowed him to keep her pace, however slow it could have been.
