He was sulking, again. A usual expression that marred his actually adorable face. He stood by the fence of the pastures, his oracles on Sandy and Question as they grazed calmly. Cookie sat at his side faithfully, Cinnamon was slowly creeping under the fence and toward the beautiful Gray pony. Question glanced around suspiciously when he heard the slight rustling of grass, but didn't look far enough back to see the red merle cattle dog inching in on him. Jay rolled his oracles but leaned his elbows on the fence and watched the pup make her advance. She came around the left of him, and then all of a sudden jumped up and slobbered all over the gelding's cheek. Question ripped his head up in surprise, his breathing had deepend dramatically. He looked down to see the submissive pup on her back, belly up and her tongue lolling from the side of her mouth. This rose a smile to Jay's sour expression, but it soon fell away. He watched as Question pressed his muzzle into the dogs' stomach and then she shot up and took off. The pony then took off in hot pursuit. Cookie took this as the start of a game of chase and wriggled under the fence. She caught up with her daughter easily, barking tauntingly at the gray who was getting frustrated at how fast the pair ran.
Sandy stood off in the distance, every now and then casting a distasteful glance in the gallivanting trio's direction. Jay had given up paying attention and was now sat on the stone path, leaning against the fence. Spencer played on his mind, as he usually did. Instead of banishing the image of his past love's face, he welcomed it. He shouldn't, as it made him feel like crap for days, but today he just couldn't be bothered to push it back. He changed the subject in his mind quickly though, his thoughts strayed to Charisma. The mare he was assigned to for Equine Reproduction had really made an impression on him. He'd fallen in love with the Gypsy Vanner breed after working with her, a breed he'd never really taken a liking too before. She was a wonderful mare, but haughty and vain like himself. They suited each other well, like he and Question. In a way, he suited Sandy too. They were both stubborn, strong characters with evil streaks. They just clashed too often to see it. Resting his cranium against the fence, he sighed once more. Spencer appeared, but was quickly banished again. Now his mind was blank, he hoped something would creep up eventually to amuse him.

A pair of golden eyes watched the three in the not-so-far distance, narrowing slightly as their owner thought and contemplated their next move. Then, the shadowy form slunk forward in small, precise steps that carried them closer to Cookie, who seemed to be the target of this mission.
As Cookie ran by, the owner of the dark smudgy form saw how the dog paused to sniff the air, the game with her offspring forgotten as a scent wafted towards her nostrils. It was then that the figure chose to charge her.
A small, black form burst from the tall grass and pounced on Cookie, paws gentle. Cheshire was purring loudly and happily, her arched back reaching up to rub against Cookie's chin and her tail twitching in joy. She wove between the dog's front legs, rubbing her face enthuastically into the canine's silky fur.
Then, she caught sight of Jay and with a small meow she ran over. Her body scaled the fence easily, and then she was across Jay's shoulders, laying across the broad length of the boy's muscle and bone with an easy balance only a cat could aquire. She rubbed her head against the boy's cheek, then left it there, and it seemed as though she was making sure she had really found him after so long without him.
----
Cheshire's owner himself was with Flyte and Tempest, his arms around Flyte's neck as the horse stood patiently, allowing his mane to have long, delicate fingers run through it. Tears ran silently down his smooth cheeks. Flyte always brought back memories... Thoughts of those days in the hospital where he'd only had thoughts of Jay, even when he thought his unconcious mind couldn't possibly comprehend any rational thought.
And then he'd been there. There, by his bedside, then in his arms as they held each other in tight embraces, so afraid to slacken their grip even slightly for fear of the other slipping through their fingers like grains of loose sand.
If Spencer could have one wish, he would wish to reverse time and make things right. He would fix himself so that he and Jay could stay together like they should have. He'd blocked the breakup from his mind; the nightmares had forced him to do so. Now, he only longed for Jay as a wolf longs for it's mate when they are seperated, a dog pining for it's human partner. Spencer turned his face into Flyte's neck to let a soft sob be muffled by the muscling on the animal's neck. This horse had carried him through so much, brought he and Jay together, even closer. This horse, whom Jay had hated for such a long time. Flyte whickered softly to his master, ears pricking as he craned his neck to nuzzle the spot between Spencer's shoulder blades.

Cookie poised thoughtfully as a familiar scent wafted into her nostrils. Her mismatched oracles shot around and caught the small black form emerging, launching herself toward Cookie. The femme wagged her whip cord excitedly, a low grumble forming in her throat. Cheshire had pounced on her, and the canine bat the feline with her paw playfully. Her old playmate had returned it seemed. Cinnamon spotted her mother with Cheshire, but was too slow to go over and meet the black cat. Cheshire was already on the move. Cookie. not that bothered, barked at her offspring and the gray pony who was now looking in their direction, starting up their game once more. Jay still had his back to them, ignoring the commotion. He heard the slight patter of tiny paws against the fence though, causing him to tilt his head curiously. Then the paws were placed on his shoulders and he gave a small gasp. Only one cat ever did that to him. Her delicate cranium pressed against his cheek and he looked at her aghast. "Cheshire! What on earth are you doing here?" he asked, reaching up to scratch the area behind her ears, in utter disbelief.
He coaxed the feline into his arms, still looking at her in confusion. If she was here, so was Spencer. Standing up in a slight daze, he whistled for the two dogs to follow. They did, and so did Question try to. He grew frustrated when he realized he couldn't get through the fence, which made Jay roll his oracles. "Shall be back in a second." he said quietly, walking in the general direction he thought Cheshire had come from. He passed the thick line of trees that separated some of the pastures and then stopped in his tracks. There was Spencer, with Flyte. Distaste balled in his stomach as he took in the horses form, he'd been the horse that had hospitalized Spencer. He pushed the thought away, and Cookie all of a sudden realized who it was. The canine worked herself into a frenzy, barking excitedly and darting around uncontrollably. She crawled under the fence and bounded toward Spencer. Immediately pushing herself onto her hind legs, she rest her fore paws on the tall blond. Jay shifted uncomfortably. For once he didn't know what to say or do. Resentment began to form in his mind though, angry with Spencer for leaving but also angry at himself for the stupid argument happening between them. Now that he thought about it, he couldn't even remember what it was about. Cinnamon had now joined her mother, running circles around the boy and Cookie. She had no idea what was going on, but apparently her mother's happiness was infectious. Apparently to everyone bar Jay. The boy placed Cheshire down, and then rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. He had no idea what to do next, so he cast his oracles to the ground, not really wanting to see Spencer's reaction to their meeting.

Flyte suddenly removed himself from Spencer's grasp and turned, his head high, ears pricked. Spence looked at the gelding and started to turn, but his chest was suddenly pounded by two dog paws, and instead of looking in the direction Flyte's gaze pointed, his eyes were met by none other than Cookie's.
A happy, surprised laugh bubbled from Spencer's chest and he ruffled the dog's ears, then, holding her up in place he turned with her, as though dancing with the canine. Cookie bounced with him trying to reach his face, probably trying to lick him to death. Another yapping sounded in the air, and Spencer looked down to see a small puppy running in circles around them. He gently set Cookie down and sat next to her in the grass. Immediately the small creature barreled into his lap and kept going, crashing into his chest. The blond gave a small "oof!" and picked the puffball of exploding energy up. He raised an eyebrow at Cookie and gave one of his old grins permission to shine. "You've been a busy girl, Cookie love. Wonder what your owner said when he found out?"
Cookie seemed to realize her owner had been mentioned, and she picked herself up to trot off. The red merle pup wriggled away from Spencer to scramble after her. Spencer simply stared at the male they paced toward.
Jay was every bit as beautiful, moreso, than Spencer remembered. Curly locks crowning a boy-ish face that seemed slightly more mature, but his eyes were downcast as not to look at him. Cheshire curled in his arms happily. Spencer got to his feet, Flyte watching him. Tempest had started to walk towards Jay, his grey form seeming to float, even at this slow pace. But Spencer only had eyes for Jay.
He lifted himself over the fence next to Jay, then grasped the shorter man's shoulders. Knowing he would probably get decked for this, he pulled Jay into a hug, holding him tightly like he used to. His face was pillowed by Jay's curly locks, catching the tears that fell freely from his eyes. His cracking voice found the strength to whisper only one word; "Jay."

He looked up just a little to see Spencer had been knocked over by Cinnamon. This made the male crack a slight smile, but it was removed just as quickly as it had appeared. The two canines all of a sudden made their way back to him, but his eyes stayed on Spencer. The blond haired Adonis, which he usually referred to him as, rose from his place on the ground and carried his tall frame toward Jay. He made Jay feel very small, not only in height but ego wise. He always had done. The closer Spencer grew, the worse he felt about their breakup. He studied the male and was startled that he seemed to be even more beautiful than when they had last been together. Rolling his weight, he watched as Spencer climbed over the fence and grew closer still. Spencer had also grown in seemed, which made Jay feel much smaller than his 5'3. Then, Spencer's hands fell upon his shoulders and Jay was pulled into one of Spencer's suffocating hugs. The smaller male froze, wanting to pull away but found that he couldn't. Jay stood stiffly, even when he felt Spencer's face press against his curls. When the other boy spoke his name though, the emotions he had tried to suppress over the past two years began to resurface. He placed his arms around Spencer, not as willingly as he used to, but it was a start. "I missed you too." he said quietly, but his features were still pretty blank. It seemed he couldn't put things behind him as well as he thought.
De-tangling himself from Spencer's arms, he took a step back and looked over the taller male. His lips pursed into a straight line, He still wasn't sure what to do. Cookie and Cinnamon sat beside him, looking up in confusion. Well, Cookie did anyway. She'd never seen her master so distant. She gave a quiet whine, pressing her maw into his hand. He ran his fingers through her long coat but offered no more. His eyes were still on Spencer, and eventually a slow grin spread over his face. "I can't remember why we even broke up." he said honestly, still keeping his distance but his stance was much more relaxed. He knew that he had missed Spencer dearly, and the fact that he was here now didn't seem real. May as well make the most of it, he supposed. "How was the acting school?" He stopped himself from spitting the words, but he was glad that Spencer had not been around when he'd acted shamefully by jumping from boyfriend to boyfriend. Hanging his head in disgust as he thought about it, he hated what he had done. But, that part of him was over. Now that Spencer was back, he didn't think he would ever let him leave again. Even if it was still a little strange him being here.

As Jay spoke those words, Spencer's form gave a shiver of pure delight, but he hardly repressed a moan from ripping his throat when the boy pulled away. He felt Jay's eyes examine him, and allowed himself to comb the other male's figure, for he knew what Jay would find. A taller, thinner Spencer.
He smiled as Jay spoke again, the spoken words making him chuckle. "To be honest the day after we broke up I think I forgot. I just wanted you back..."
"I actually didn't do very good. Lost my will to do it..." The boy sighed, preparing himself. "Jay, I hope you can forgive me. It was wrong of me to leave you behind, just because we had a rough spot in our relationship. I hope you can forgive me for leaving you, like the selfish jerk I am. I didn't want to hurt you by staying..." The blond male leaned up against the fence, hugging his torso. "At the school, I got there, and, instead of it feelinf like I was alive, like it was supposed to, I felt like I'd died on the inside. Like I was rotting. I started having nightmares.... Terrible things happened to you, Jay, in those dreams, and I never could protect you." He lifted his blue eyes up to meet the brown. "Jay, even if you don't love me anymore, at least can we be friends, so that I can look out for you?"

Jay gave a wry grin as Spencer chuckled at his words. It also stayed in place for his companions next words. But then Spencer answered Jay's question, and watching the enthusiasm fall from the one he loved face made him frown also. And then, the apology struck. Jay stiffened, his expression one of confusion. Why was Spencer apologizing to him? Jay was the brat in their relationship, he'd never deserved Spencer. People had always told him that, and Jay had always agreed. He watched painfully as the male wrapped his arms around himself. That should be Jay's job, holding Spencer so that he felt safe. Then he went onto talk about nightmares. Jay frowned, he wanted to interrupt but found that he couldn't. He'd never felt so bad, his expression became strained and almost painful. Their eyes met, a Spencer delivered another blow. Jay closed his eyes for a second, and then took a deep breath. "You aren't the jerk Spencer, I am. To be honest, you'd be glad you left. I was stupid after you'd gone, and if you were there I'd have been worse. I don't even want to think about it anymore. Let's just say, I kinda turned into a whore." he smiled sadly. It was even a disappointment to himself. He found himself walking closer to Spencer.
"Secondly, they were dreams Spencer. Horrible ones, I know. But they won't ever happen in real life. I know you'd try to protect me if it really happened. Not that I deserve it at all." Again, his smile was sad. Now he was right in front of Spencer, his arms reaching out to slide around his waist. "Thirdly, of course I still love you. I never stopped." he grinned, his hazel oracles filling up a little. Spencer always did this to him. He reached up to swipe away the liquid mercilessly, and then pulled Spencer closer towards him. "You're not leaving me again, and that's a promise. Spencer, I don't think I could handle it again. Without my brother, I wouldn't even be here now talking to you." he said quietly. It was true. If Hayden hadn't have gotten to him, Jay would have been dead now. Nobody knew about the male trying to commit suicide, it wasn't something people were supposed to know. He felt bad about unloading it onto Spencer, knowing the male would take it to heart. "But that doesn't matter anymore." he said quickly, his face hardening a little. "That was the past, and now we look forward to the future. Yes?" he beamed at Spencer, his expression much, much more Jay like. Oh, he hadn't been this happy in months.

* all the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Spencer honestly doubted he would ever be happy about leaving Jay like he did. He would rather be near the male and suffer, watching him skip from relationship to relationship, because he would at least get a glimpse of his beloved. But now, Jay was withen his graps again, and he felt a small butterfly of hope fluttering weakly in his heart, trying to find it's wings.
And Jay's next words were entirely true. Spencer would get run over by a bus, face a serial killer, and duel with a clown in a sword fight, all at the smale timem blindfolded, and with one hand behind his back to protect Jay. Though, he doubted he could beat the bus in a fight...
Suddenly his mind went blank. Of course I still love you. I never stopped. He felt the butterfly burst into a dragon, and his eyes lit up, the spark lighting again from it's dim glow that faintly signified life. The zest of old Spencer that had left a vacant spot for the last two years. He felt an arm tighten and pull him closer by the waist, and the boy gently reached up and cupped Jay's pale face with a large hand, a thumb wiping away any remianing moisture. His ice blue eyes urged Jay to continue, for Spencer could see there was something else needing to be off his chest.
It wasn't news he approved of.
His protective nature instantly rose, and his own arm seemed to grasp Jay closer, a shine in his eyes showing determination. His answer had a strange tone, and a growl seemed to be gathering in his throat slightly as he told Jay, "Wild horses couldn't keep us apart." Jay was not one to ever try something like suicide; Spencer would have suffered premature heart failure on the spot. He would not allow such behavior from Jay, and he promised himself to keep a close eye on his lover.
"And what a future it is." He murmured, leaning his lanky form over and placing a chaste kiss on Jay;s forehead, closing his eyes in the bliss of having the curly-locked male back in his arms. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - * the pen is mightier than the sword 372 words* such stuff as dreams are made on using quotes from william shakespeare* get thee to a nunnery! Syncydoodle is/are tagged* what's in a name? template made by LAURIE?! of CAUTION 2.0[/blockquote]
