The morning was far too early for Melissa's liking. She did not enjoy the blare of the alarm being irratatingly shrill as she roused herself from her bed to drag herself over and silence it. As she yawned and streched a bit, she noticed that even Sparks looked a little vexed by the clocks now silent cries.
She went into the closet to pick out her clothes for the day, but then as she glanced down, she noticed she was still in yesterday's clothes. She shrugged, then pulled down a clean flannel shirt, brown plaid, and switched into that. Then, pulling on some socks and boots, she opened the door and made her way outside toward the barn.
As she entered and went to her three horses, Sham, Samba, and Levi, she noticed a piece of paper hanging on Levi's stall door. She quickly saw that it was a report from the vet, and she felt her breathing hitch and worry flood her entire body, from head to foot. Melissa snatched up the slip and scanned over it.
Ms. Whitcombe-Bass,
We are saddened to tell you that your horse, Levitation, cannot have foals this year, as a pregnancy could endanger your mount's health.
Best Regards, The Vet Staff of Park Equine College
As she finished reading the note, Melissa felt a grin quirk the corner of her mouth, and she looked at Levi with a raised eyebrow. "Levi, is there something you haven't been telling me?" She asked with a chuckle, and the gelding pricked his oversized ears at her.
