Max made his arrival a few hours ago and already the news had spread of his arrival. Well, the fact that he was a Bass by blood and probably the most arrogant one in his family, Max never was one for being good. Scanning the cafeteria, he noted a few faces as well as one's that might benefit him later. The funniest part was the fact that he saw so many Blue Ridge students. Most who he never had taken an interest in, and he probably never will. They were merely there, background noise to his life. They didn't play a part in his story, and if they did, then he didn't care.
He stood in line, waiting for food that he most likely not even going to taste. He ate enough just to get by, but he was actually so used to the food that he got at home, that everything just paled in comparison. Max got his Chicken Caeser Salad and went to take a seat by an empty table. His movements were almost robotic. Stab food, move fork to mouth, chew, swallow. It was repeated for about four times, before Max put down his fork, and took to watching the cafeteria with emotionless eyes.
In his pocket was his smokes, and he wondered how far he could push the rules. Max decided against, and then his thoughts took control. Why was he here? Why hadn't he decided to stay with Ieuan? Why did he have to come to England of all places? Was he a sadistic bastard who enjoyed watching others squirm? The only one he could answer with complete certainty was the last one. Of course was the answer. Max didn't just enjoy it, he thrived on it.

Chris bit into the green apple with a tired jaw, his eyes scanning the page in front of him slowly. The book was a historic documentation of differant types of warhorse and mounted knight materials. The boy's skinny frame wove through the crowd mechanically, avoiding peers he didn't care to know easily.
He sat down at a table occupied by one student at the opposite end, pulling his backpack from his shoulder and undoing the zipper. He dug around inside and pulled out his Advanced Chemistry textbook and homework, his brain wailing silently at the thought of being forced to exhert itself over such an unimportant, boring thing. It would have liked to have continued to read the Medieval book, thanks.
But, Chris knew that if he didn't try and do this homework now, he would never get around to even trying. Eventually, his mind would collapse into a dreamless sleep, which could quite possibly be any second now. Haunting images of what could possibly be the sister he never knew ghost through his mind as transient spectrals at night when he attempted rest.
Trying to divert his attention from the Chem work, Chris' brain made his eyes drift toward the boy toward the end of the table. But. the shy seventeen year old did not lift his head.
The boy was well-built and good-looking with a bit of a sad aura seeming to surrond him and alter his features from what would be a pleasant expression. Chris had long since known of being gay, and right now he was battling himself internally. What were the chances of finding someone gay and intrested in him, a skinny scrape of a nerd. He beat himself, his heart down, silencing it with his logic. Then he moved his eyes back to the page, pleased that his old tricj had actually worked.

The site of the food made him slightly nauseous. His wiry frame had known the way of starvation, but Max wasn't accustomed to not eating for long periods of time. He pushed the plate away from him, and groaned slightly. Rather than leave the cafeteria, Max stayed seated and took out his homework. Well, it would actually be a first that he would that, but somehow he always managed to keep his grades up. English was one of those subjects he enjoyed but never showed. Easily, Max's untidy scrawl crossed the page, answering the questions of an unknown poem. Finished with that, Max stowed the book only to take out his Chemistry.
By the time he had started on the Redox reactions, he noticed the other figure sitting silently at the end of the table. For some reason the male looked familiar, was it possible that this student had gone to BRRA? Very likely, as most of the school population had been there. Life at Blue Ridge had been a blur. Ieuan had been, well, had been what Max was. Even now, Max just wanted to go outside and take the smoke break that he was craving for, but the other male had struck his interest. Max was gay, and almost everyone knew that by now. He also shook off all thoughts of another relationship, but he wasn't looking. So why did this speciman peak his interest and make him take notice when all other people were just a blur.

Chris' brow furrowed in confusion over the page's complex problems. Chemistry was not the subject he liked, understood, nor enjoyed - he'd rather do math then suffer this kind of abuse to his tired mind.
The boy at the end of the table had pushed his lunch away, and had started on schoolwork as well. It seemed to be a new trend that Chris had started, which was pretty much unbelievable, considering Chris' level of popularity.
The boy was close to giving up - he simply couldn't make sense of anything the book was explaining and the paper was asking, and he could not afford to fail this kind of work. He looked up at the boy down the table, and allowed himself a resigned sigh. He lifted himself to his feet, and made his way down the table to Max.
He stood sheepishly for a minute, then cleared his throat softly, and spoke quite nervously. "Excuse me, but do you think you could help me with this? I don't understand it at all, and failing wouldn't be very good for me right now." He gazed at Max with gently pleading eyes through his brown locks, catching the other male's gaze with his own pair of hazel orbs.
He recognized Max vaguely from BRRA. Chris hadn't been very well known there, but he'd known the people. Unnoticed, he'd spotted Max many times, probably even shared a few classes with him, if he was correct. Not that he expected Max to remember him though; he'd only been known for his spunky little mare, and big bay gelding with a really long name that was somewhat hard to pronounce at times.

Max stared off into the distance. He didn't really know what rubbish he was answering to the chemistry questions, but he would correct his mistakes later. Shortly into his meditative stare, the male who was sitting at the end of the table came up to him, and asked for help. Yeah, sure, he answered, his eyes never really left the male's handsome features. His vocals were tinged with a hint of a German accent that had been watered down over the years and replaced with the one from New York. Max was somewhat of a mutt in his breeding. German by birth, but his dad was British and his mother American. Bass in lineage and in character.
He waited for the male to ask what he needed help with, and while doing so observed. His mind rifled through names, and came one that he vaguely could remember. Chris. Chris had definitely not caught his attention during his stay at BRRA. Then there had only been Ieuan, but now, Chris was satisfyingly cute. Make that handsome enough to draw upon Max's attention. With those dark brown locks and hazel eyes, Max nearly blurted out something that he would regret.

It had been a long day, he'd been traveling since 3am, it was now around 1ish. He's put the cats and Crychau into his room and settled in the horses. Giving Lady one more pat, she gave a content sigh which Ieuan took as a sign to which he could go and get lunch. Not that he really wanted it, but at least he could see who exactly from Blue Ridge was attending Park. And maybe even run into Max. Ieuan couldn't help but feel a little excited, the pair had been convinced that they wouldn't run into one another again. That was why they had gone their separate ways. It wasn't like Ieuan to be so worked up about something, his parents and his uncle had noticed in. The boy scowled when he thought of his relatives, they were always on his case. He never had a moments peace when he was around them, so he was more than glad to come to Park. At least now he wouldn't have Uncle Dafydd watching his every move. Giving a sigh, he pulled his cigarette packet from his coat pocket and pulled one from it. Lighting it, he balanced it between his lips as he put away the packet once more. Then he placed it between his fingers, taking intermittent puffs from it as he made his way over to the cafeteria.
On the walk over, he thought over how successful the travelling had been. Lady had been very settled, which was unusual, and had taken to her stall like a duck to water. Maddy had been a little nervous, but that wasn't out of character and Laurence had already decided that his neighbor was now his worst enemy. This, again, wasn't out of character. Ieuan did feel a little sorry for the draft mare next door to his Arabian gelding, but she didn't seem bothered by Laurence's attempts to wind her up. In fact, she had been dozing off when he'd tried to get her attention. Ieuan rolled his eyes, and then stubbed out his cigarette when he came to the front entrance of the caff. Flicking away the smoke, he pushed open the door and allowed the warmth to engulf him. He hadn't known it was so cold outside, a shiver ran down his spine as his body tried to adjust to the sudden temperature change. Looking around, he couldn't see anyone he recognized. With a huff, he wandered reluctantly over to the line up, waiting impatiently for it to be his turn.
After paying for his water and sandwich, he turned and a familiar form fell into his eye line. About to smile, Ieuan's face fell into a scowl when he noticed Max was sitting next to someone else, a little too close for Ieuan's liking. Jealousy burned in the pit of his stomach, his expression bordering furious. He forced himself to approach normally, his footfalls almost silent. As he stood a little behind them, he watched over their shoulder for a second. Chemistry homework. His brow rose and then he spoke. "Well, doesn't this look cozy." His accent still was the very thick Welsh one he possessed before first going to Blue Ridge, something he was very pleased about. His vocals were very condescending though, as well as accusing. Until now, his eyes had remained on Max. But now they flickered to his company, and Ieuan's expression pulled into one of disgust. "Him? Of all people? A nerd?" he spat, his tone obviously questioning Max's sanity. He had seen Chris around Blue Ridge when he attended there, but hadn't really spoken to him. That automatically made him pathetic in Ieuan's eyes, he was a waste of space. Ieuan still hadn't sat down, and he knew that he probably wouldn't. His fists clenched, causing the water bottle to protest and the sandwiches to screech a little was his hands constricted the plastic casing. It was obvious that the male was furious.

Chris could only make the sigh of relief slightly softer than it's true form of a huge gust of air released from his chest. He sat down next to Max, opening up his Chem book. Being younger then Max, his book was differant, as was his work. "Ionic and covalent bonding is confusing me to no end, as are valence electrons and Lewis structures. I guess the whole lesson just has me boggled."
He looked sheepishly at Max, patiently awaiting for infomation and teaching. He noticed how he perked slightly around Max, and cursed himself yet again for feeling emotions for the boy, forbidden emotions like love. He'd never experianced the kind of affection blossoming in his chest, but he adored the contented peace it gave him. When Max began to explain the proper procedure, he absorbed the information like a sponge. Max explained it much better then his teacher ever had, and Chris' intellectual mind began to figure the problems out.
But then, the confusion began.
It all started when another boy's voice drawled behind them. Chris looked behind him, an eyebrow cocking slightly in question. "I would hardly call Chem homework cozy. It slaughters the tired mind." He replied to Ieuan, offering up a friendly smile as well. But the smile was quickly morphed into a frown when Ieuan ran his disapproving eyes over chris, then turned on Max. Chris' brow furrowed in slight anger, for the seventeen year old had a patience that was long and easy-going, something quite unusual for his age. "Hey, lay off, will ya? Even nerds need help sometimes."

Max listened to what the male needed help with. Don't worry. I remember what that was like a few years ago,he answered with a smile. Max allowed his memory to transport him back to the previous few years worth of science. He started explaining the work easily, Lewis structures being easy enough. The binding took a little more time to remember, but as soon he did he explained. Max knew that he shouldn't be feeling anything for this male. It wasn't right and he knew that. He knew that it was possible that this male wasn't even that way inclined. Max knew that he would be able to suppress his feelings, the way he usually did. It wasn't good for him, but it was the only thing he actually knew how to do exceptionally well. It had gotten him through most of his life, and it would get him through the next year.
Max actually thought he was dreaming when he heard that all too familiar voice. It couldn't be who he thought it was. He had left that part of him behind. Max knew that they had split because they knew they would never see each other again. If he had known that Ieuan would be coming to Park, then he would never have left him. Never have caused himself the pain of actually saying goodbye. All rational thoughts had left his mind by then, but Ieuan could not expect to step into his life again and expect a warm welcome. Max knew that scratching upmold feeling s would be bad, and he had actually felt something for Chris. The poor teen didn't even know what Ieuan was referring to. He liked the male.
Standing up, Max turned to face Ieuan. His blue oracles flashed with anger, and he had to use all self-control to not punch the one opposite him. His shirt sleeves were already rolled up, and had been for a while. He's just a friend. So what if I actually moved on? It's not like we're still together. he answered the whole range of implied questions. If Chris was actually listening then he would also have heard Max's confession to being gay. Not that Max cared, but right now he just wanted Ieuan out of sight and in so doing out of mind. He also knew that Ieuan was angry, so much could be seen, and in Max's case heard.

He just glared at Chris while he spoke. His features slowly became contorted with anger, and his eyes fell down to the water bottle in his hand. He was in the right mind it just throw it at him. When the boy spoke again, Ieuan had had enough. "Just shut up!" he roared, his oracles flashing with menacing anger. If the kid wasn't so weedy, Ieuan would have just punched him in the face then and there. His attention was snapped back to Max when the male stood up. Ieuan didn't take a step back as he probably should have, they were in very close proximity. Any second either would lash out and then the brawl would begin. If Ieuan was at least a step away, he'd have more control over himself. But still, he did not step back. Max's words hurt Ieuan, it was evident on his features too. He wasn't ashamed to hold that expression, not at all. "The only reason we're not together is because you moved. I thought seeing you again would be a good thing, but now I'm not so sure." he hissed. He was heartbroken, there was no denying it.
He glanced at Chris once more, his expression increasing in anger. Every time he thought it was soothing, all he had to do was look at the boy and it arose it's ugly head. Ieuan wasn't the most stable person as it was. He just wanted the kid to leave, so that he could have Max to himself. Once more he found his fists clenching and his stance altering. Ieuan forced himself to stop, the kid wasn't worth getting in trouble for. Not just yet. Closing his eyes tight, he then opened them again. His gaze went over Max's shoulder and over Chris's head to the plain, white washed walls. Oh, how much he wanted to punch that wall right now. He took a deep breath and turned on his heel. He needed fresh air. He left without a word, if he didn't all hell would break loose. He was so glad his uncle wasn't there, otherwise it would have been 'Bye bye Ieuan.' The male threw his untouched food into the garbage, and then unscrewed the lid of the water. Taking a gulp of it, he then carried on out of the cafeteria. Outside were wooden picnic benches. He sat down, and then his fist connected with the material. Pain didn't register, but he knew he'd split one of his knuckles. His expression was pure fury. It was going to take him days to simmer down.

Chris' courage faultered. Well, not really. The boy simply backed off, but he didn't submit. He broke eye contact and started to back away. If he got into a fight now, it was almost assured he would not win and would end up in the hospital.
He was surprised to find himself glancing in Max's direction for reassurance, but stopped himself, afraid it would set Ieuan off even more. So, he just stayed put, not intent on leaving, but not really favoring the idea of staying in place either.
But, Ieuan was the first to depart from the scene. Chris watched him leaver rather warily, then looked over at Max slightly questioning. He didn't need to ask who the male had been - obviously Max's ex. Chris had just been reminded that Max was gay, and now he felt a slight hope rising in his chest. Maybe Max did feel something for him? He fought to push it down, his gaze dropping back down to his books. "I should probably be going..." He began, meeking looking up at Max once more.

It took all of Max and some more to control himself. He was so conflicted at the moment. It was possible to feel something for two people at the same time. He was the proof of it. He didn't know what to do or say. On one side he wanted to hug Ieuan. Tell him it was all a sick joke, and that he stilled loved the male. That he will always be with Ieuan, and that they had a future. On another side he just wanted to turn to Chris and say that Ieuan was part of his past and that they had a shot at happiness. That he actually did feel something. Then there was a small part that wanted to Max to leave the school, tell no one he was coming back, and move back to Germany. Ieuan. I can't deny that. I also thought that we'd never see each other again. We both knew that long distance wouldn't work. his words were soft, hoping that it will help the male. Old feelings came up. Old memories as well. That flight over had been hell. The whole time Max just wanted to go back to the Academy, find Ieuan and tell him everything was right again.
All Max wanted to do was hug a defeated looking Ieuan into his arms. Ieuan however stormed out of the cafeteria, startled students looking their way. Rubbing his temples, he saw that Chris actually looked smaller than usual. Sitting down next Chris he wondered what to say. I'm sorry. Really I am. He shouldn't have gone off on you like that. His fight's with me. Max looked defeated for a moment. He really didn't know what to do. His science books were still on the table, as were Chris's.
When Chris mentioned leaving, a flash of panic crossed Max's face. Okay. Just come and find me if you need help with your work again, he said softly with a smile.
