The first time I encountered Eagle I felt my heart drop into the pit of my stomach. This mare obviously had some courage and spirit to have stayed fighting to be alive. She was severely underweight and the scars on her legs were crusty. Her eyes though were full of anger and her body posture was that of leave me alone.
I would not force my presence on her, and just observed her. She's a fighter, and obviously would not give up at life. I valued this in her and I knew that Eagle would make it through. I have taken over her care under the watchful eye of Ms. Carr, as I feel that I need to build up her trust before I can trust other's with her.
I found a feed that is recommended by nutritionists, and have been feeding Eagle this in small amounts. Along with this I have added a mixture of herbs, namely fenugreek, comfrey, garlic, rosehip, kelp, nettles and calendula. All these provide vitamins, iron and minerals. I buy the herbs fresh from the market, or dried at the grocery store. I have also added a small amount of Rescue Remedy to her water to help with any anxiety. I can't be sure, but I think that Eagle might have worms. To be sure, I will be treating her with a dewormer every month.
I wish I could treat her wounds, but not until she trusts me. There aren't any look like they might be deep, just mere flesh wounds. This isn't a worry, but I'll be keeping her environment as clean as possible to prevent any infection from occurring.

Slowly, but surely Eagle is picking up condition. She is still wary of me, and refuses to come anywhere near the fence close to where I might be. She prefers standing in the corner of her yard, back towards me, but I see that she sneaks in glances when she thinks I'm not looking. It's a start, and hope that soon she'll be able to trust me.
She is finishing all her feed, which is excellent, and she appears more relaxed in her own company. Her bones aren't sticking out as much, but can still be counted. Two weeks of good feed is proving to be doing her well, and her coat isn't the same lackluster coloring from when I first saw her. I watch her from afar, and the other day I saw her gaiting in her paddock. Overgrown hooves and all! There is such a presence around her, that I'm starting to wonder if she wasn't a show horse before her abusers got hold of her. I'm busy investigating her past, and so far it's proving difficult.
The other day a rider came past, and was a distance away, but they had a dog with them. Eagle freaked out completely, and her manner became violent. She has a lot of pent up anger in her, and for a week after the incident wouldn't even let me as far as the gate of her pen.
