PLAYBY: Amy Adams
FULL NAME: Jaelle (Jay-el) Caine
NICKNAMES:
AGE: 26 years
GENDER: Female
ETHNICITY: Romany Gypsy
STUDENT OR STAFF: Staff - Guidance Counselor and Art teacher.
HALL: Dakota
PERSONALITY: The overwhelming personality trait of Jaelle's is caring. She will love and adore anything and everything that comes her way be it a wayward teen who needs advice or a cute little kitten. She constantly has a medley of animals that she has rescued, and a couple of teens that she treats as her own children. It stems from when she was growing up and responsible for her younger siblings, and she always took in stray animals that she could find.
In a situation with people her own age, she isn't shy per say but rather reserved. She tend's to stay quite quiet and on the fringes of a group of people rather than being in the center. It's a mixture of her own personality, and how she was brought up - believing that woman should stay out of the limelight. With those younger than her, she gets on easily though. Jaelle is known for being able to get absolutely anyone into a conversation no matter what it's about. She uses this to her advantage within her job, people always find it easy to open up to her and share their worries.
Jaelle never judges people, no matter what they've done. Even if you told her you'd just murdered someone, she'd be more concerned with helping you to understand why you had done it rather than fearing for her life and labelling you as a bad person. Her reliable, calm nature means than in one sense, she's the sort of person who's good to have around in an emergency. She never gets flustered, and it's very rare for her to get nervous. However, you may say she does this too much, as in an emergency she would probably fail to grasp the importance of the situation and be more relaxed than you would want.
A side-effect of being so relaxed perhaps, is that she is constantly loosing things. In every place where she is - her apartment, her office, her classroom etc - she will have a folder stapled to the wall labeled 'Important Stuff'. Anything important goes straight into that folder in the relevent place so she doesn't lose it. Jaelle used to not have it stapled to the wall, when she first recieved the advice of having such a folder, but she kept managing to lose the whole folder.
BACKGROUND: Jaelle was raised in a typical Romany Gypsy family in the south of England during her early years. She attended school until she was thirteen when her older sister married. At this point she left school to be responsible for her family, caring for her three younger sisters and two younger brothers. Her family travelled around a lot, not sticking to one site. Her father bred horses, and Jaelle learnt to ride at a young age. She doesn't have more of an interest in horses than any other animal though, despite being able to ride well. Her mother passed away when she was fourteen, and she found herself being handed around the relatives when her father went a little off the rails. Somehow, she managed to end up in the care of social services when she was fifteen, and lived in various care homes until she was eighteen. She struggled to adapt to her new way of life, finding returning to school almost impossible. That year that she was forced to attend school she spent her time plotting how to play truant, as well as getting herself into fights so that she would be suspended for a few weeks.
When her time at school was over, she found herself a job at an animal shelter, having missed the ability to have any number of rescued animals whilst in care homes. She spent the two years working there, before being persuaded by the owner of the shelter to get some qualifications. Jaelle could already read and write perfectly from her time at school, but she found her way into an art course. Getting a GCSE and then an A-Level in art, she persuaded a university to let her do a long-distance course training as a teacher despite her lack of qualification. By now she had left the care of social services and was living in a caravan on the site of the animal shelter. Jaelle spent her days working with the rescued animals and her evenings - and often into the night - working on coursework for her degree. If asked, she will always state this as the happiest time of her life.
Once she could teacher, she found a part-time job as an art teacher when she was twenty four, and it was around this time that she first considered being a guidance counselor. The college she was working for kindly helped her through training and she became qualified a year later. Still living at the animal shelter, she spent a very happy year working her two jobs at a local college and caring for the animals. But sadly, the animal shelter doesn't have enough money to remain open anymore and the owner has gone bankrupt. Jaelle spent her last few weeks finding homes for all the animals before herself and the owner were evicted. Now she makes her way to Park to take up her new jobs, and she's even considering starting up an animals shelter here too.
