FULL NAME: Courtney Zoe Vaughan
NICKNAMES: Kook
AGE: 28
GENDER: Female
ETHNICITY: Scottish
STUDENT OR STAFF: Staff, Maths Teacher
HALL: Dakota
PERSONALITY:
Courtney is a very lovable character, if not a little strange. She has a habit of talking to herself, and is very open about it. She's the sort of person that will rush past you having a full on debate with herself. She also disagrees with herself often, answering a question and then deciding it is wrong. She also has a tendency to answer her own questions. All in all though, she is very comical. Her jokes may be a little cheesy, and she knows it. But, people adore her for her wonderful nature, she doesn't take many things to heart and knows that her dopey ways will get her teased. She takes it all in her stride. She could be classed as a little stupid when you first meet her, but when you get to know her you realize how clever she really is.
Courtney has a very out there dress sense, she gets it from her mother who owned her own clothing boutique and made all the clothes herself. She's a big fan of the colorful scarfs, big glasses and bright tops. One thing you'll never find her in is a dress or a skirt, she hates them with a passion. She doesn't give a crap what people think about the way she dresses, it's what makes her comfortable, not anyone else. Other days, like when she's teaching, she'll be very contemporary. Black trousers, white shirt and black jacket. She really doesn't give a damn what people think about her in general, they either accept her for who she is or don't accept her. She's very straight talking, doesn't hold back at all. It's like she doesn't have the thing in her brain that tells her not to say something. It can be a good thing, but more often than not, it isn't.
As well as being a little strange, she is very forgetful. Something could be in her hand and she'll spend hours looking for it, even studying it a few times before coming to the conclusion that it is actually the object she is looking for. There is honestly no point telling her something because she will forget it within minutes. She tells her students to write her messages on her board to remind her whether she needs to do something for them. It's effective, but there is the odd joker who puts "Not give the class homework/classwork." She is also very clumsy, dangerously so in fact. It's like she has no control over her limbs at times. She often has new bruises or cuts that she has no idea where they have come from, it's like she's become immune to pain after having so many incidents. She's broken so many bones that she's lost count.
She earned the nickname Kook for being a little, well, kooky. It stuck from school, and she hasn't been able to shake it since. She doesn't mind though, all her close family and friends call her by it and sometimes she doesn't even bother answering to her real name, which amuses those who are trying to get her attention. She can become very passionate about things, she is very much an environmentalist and an animal activist, she has very strong views on things. She doesn't drive unless it's absolutely necessary (like moving) and uses her bike to get around places. She's a technophobic, despising computers and mobile phones. She'd rather write a letter or use the telephone at a push. She recycles, she never leaves a light on where it isn't needed etc, etc, etc. A good thing is that she never pushes her views on to others, she knows that she wouldn't like it if it happened to her, so doesn't do it to others.
Courtney has three passions. Teaching, Music and animals. Music is something she fills her spare time with, writing songs, playing guitar and piano as well as singing. She'll randomly burst out into song while in class, which students get used to very quickly. Animals have always been a passion. Her grandfather was a dairy farmer, so Courtney grew up around all sorts of animals. Of course, Cattle earned a huge place in her heart. Since a young age she has been hand raising orphaned calves and currently owns one, amongst her two dogs and horse. Riding was also something she grew up around, her elder sisters were much more into it herself, but she rode too. Where as her sisters had the big, expensive thoroughbreds and warmbloods, Courtney would pick the crossbred misfit with a few problems. This meant she grew up to be much more considerate for the animal, she didn't just use it for her own fun. She cared for her horse herself, and even her sisters when they couldn't be bothered. Which was often.
For all her flaws, Kook is a lovely woman. She's very friendly, always up for making new friends. Tolerant to a point, which makes her a very good teacher, and fiercely protective over those she loves. Her classes are always entertaining, she likes to use games to teach, but does come over as serious when her students are messing around. She doesn't tolerate that in her classroom and will send them out if they are getting on her last nerve. She's not one to raise her voice, she rarely ever does it. You know when she's angry though, she clicks her fingers in agitation which signals to the students that they must stop or all hell will break loose. She doesn't often know that she is actually doing it. When it comes to being protective, this is the one thing that really gets her back up. If you harm anyone close to her, especially her family, she will hunt you down. Otherwise, nothing bothers her.
BACKGROUND:
On the 3rd of December, 1982, Courtney was born into the world. Two doting parents and two elder sisters were there to greet her, and life was grand. They lived in the small highland town of Durness, and the first three years of her life were fine. Her father, a mechanic and her mother a teacher showered her and her sisters with love. They went to their grandparents every Sunday for a Sunday lunch, and then start the new week again. And then, just before Courtney turned four, her mother and father split. They didn't tell the sisters why, Courtney now knows this is because her mother didn't know herself. Their father had left in the middle of the night and never returned. To this day, they haven't heard a peep out of him. They have no idea where he has got to.
Her home life was uncertain for a while, her mother broke down understandably. They moved in with their grandparents and slowly life returned to normal. By then, Courtney was in her first year of primary school. School was easy for her, well up until year 6 anyway. She excelled in Maths, English, Science and Art, History and Geography were also easy for her as well as Religious studies. P.E is where her downfalls struck, but she didn't mind. These subject strengths were consistent throughout her schooling life. She knew she wanted to be a teacher, just like her mother. That she did. She went on to University and studies Maths as her major, Religious Studies as her minor.
Her mother had never moved on to another relationship and instead focused her attention on raising her girls right. They were taught efficient manners and respectful ways, their mother made sure they were never too spoiled. An avid rider, she got her daughters into it too. The elders took to it like ducks to water, where as Courtney preferred to work with them in the stable. Still, she rode. Truthfully, her mother was that little bit more proud of her due to the fact that she chose the misfit and not the one who looked the best or had the best breeding lines. She was also fascinated by the way that her youngest would happily devote her time to caring for animals rather than discuss boys/make-up/clothes with her sisters.
By now, Courtney was 18. Her mother had just opened her clothes shop and it was doing well. Courtney took up her summer job there and took a gap year from school to raise money for her university fund. Over this year, Courtney had her first relationship. She'd had a few 'boyfriends' over the years, but they hadn't lasted for longer than a few weeks. This one was a lot more serious, and the pair actually fell in love. Then Courtney panicked a little, and they split. She knew she'd never see him after she went to university, so decided it was time to end it. Then she left for Glasgow to start her degree, and didn't hear from him again. No more serious relationships developed from there, just the odd fling that suited her.
After University, she did a year internship at a primary school, but she knew she wouldn't stay to teach there. Moving on to a comprehensive school once her trail was over, she was hooked. The teaching bug had well and truly bitten her. She stayed at this school up until now, but she knew that she'd outstayed her welcome. Seeing the advertisement for the job at the college, she knew she would take it. The fact that they accepted her herd of pets made it better. She cannot wait to start and is really excited to get to know her students. If she is accepted is another question. Will her kooky ways intimidate others? Will her brass tongue make her earn the wrong reputation? There is no answering these questions until she gets started, so let's go ahead with that. Shall we?
MISC.:
Naughton. Naughton (meaning Pure in Scottish Gaelic) is an adorable one year old Scottish Highland cow. She was orphaned at Courtney's grandparents dairy farm, and Courtney offered to take the youngster with her to England. She has cared for so many calves before that it doesn't bother her. So far, Naughton has proved to be a real sweetheart. She's bonded well with Courtney, probably quicker than any other calf she has ever raised. She's very inquisitive and is fascinated by both of the dogs and the horse. She can throw a strop at times, and doesn't like being rushed to do things. She takes things in her own pace and doesn't rush for anyone. Now, at one, Naughton has continued with her sweet ways and is a pleasure for Courtney to care for. Her strops have also fallen to almost nothing.
Dougal. Dougal is a cute male six year old Scottish Terrier. Collected from a shelter when he was three by Courtney, he's bonded with his mistress but can be very grumpy. He's like an old man in the way he acts, complaining and protesting about everything. He's very much his own dog and knows what he wants and when he wants it. He's the sort of dog that will sit back and wait for you to approach him and not the other way around. Courtney affectionately calls him Lord Dougal as she thinks it suits him better as he believes he is better than everyone else.
Rae. Rae is a beautiful one year old Labradoodle. Courtney bought her from a breeder as a pup. The female is a very excitable but wonderful natured dog. She loves everyone and everything, especially Naughton. The pair have grown inseparable. She loves nothing more to curl up at the end of the day with Courtney on the sofa, and will stay by her mistress for hours. She is very intelligent, which means she needs to be occupied constantly, and Courtney is currently in the process of teaching her commands which keeps her brain working.
