PERSONALITY:
Cougar is the gelding that has been there and done that, which has made him a little bitter. The gelding has turned to throwing fits when he doesn't want to do something, after years of being forced to do mindless, boring work at a riding school. He flipped, and then was bought by Jonah's father. Jonah worked through the frustration Cougar was feeling, and taught him that he was no longer going to be doing the same thing for the rest of his life. He is much more relaxed, but still throws in the occasional buck and rear if Jonah isn't concentrating or he is bored of what they are doing.
His stable manners still need to be worked on. He's had so many years of walking all over people and children who couldn't care less that he thinks he can get away with anything. He doesn't really like his stall, and kicks up a fuss when it gets too much. He winters out as he prefers the out doors and only comes in when they are riding or if the weather is very severe. He's a gentleman in the pastures though, and gets on with all horses. He likes to be higher on the hierarchy than bottom, but doesn't crave to be top horse. He's happy to stand back and graze on the sides.
Very alert and observant, you can't get much past Cougar. He doesn't like to have things hidden from him, and gets very mad if you do so. He is also very intelligent, you can see it in his eyes. This is why he got so frustrated with being in the riding school. As well as this, he has a humorous streak. He loves to lip at peoples hair when he is in a good mood, and is awful for picking up brooms in his mouth. He is also very fond of chasing around Spring and Autumn, especially Spring as she gets very angry about it. He's a wind up merchant, there is no doubt about it.
HISTORY:
Jonah's father came across Cougar when he was visiting a friend a few miles away from his home town of Bangor. His friend, who was a farmer, was delivering haylage to a local riding school and Jonah's father went along with him. He was watching an on going lesson, particularly Cougar, when the quarter horse gelding threw himself into a random fit of rage. The man was amused, and knew that Jonah wanted a horse. Cougar was the one for him. After the lesson, once Cougar had been led from the arena, Jonah's father went in search of the owner. Finding him, he offered top money for the gelding. He has now been with Jonah for three years, and they have grown very close. He now knows that he won't be kept to circling the arena day after day, and Jonah tries to keep him as enriched as possible. They have formed a pretty close bond, and Cougar is a different horse from when he first came to Jonah.
