Ruthie ran her fingers through Doc’s mane, resting her head against muscular neck. The last few months had been an absolute blur to her, a whirlwind of activity that had her leaving wondering whether she was coming or going, more to the point what the hell she was doing. The only real constants in her life were Doc and Niall. Her best friend had ended up her boyfriend and lover, and she was happier than ever, but she was still faced with Jace every day. She didn’t miss him. Not in the slightest, but there was always going to be a part of her that probably will belong to him. There was no arguing with the people that said someone’s first love will always be with them, so when Ruthie was faced that, it was true. She ended up with Niall, which was good for everyone in the end, but then why did she feel so confused about her feelings? Honestly, she didn’t know. She would never know and that was the worst for her. The feelings that she couldn’t control.
Humming to herself, she let herself into the stall and sat in the corner. There was nothing like being with an 18 hand stallion to put things into perspective. Her precious horse was being put through his duties with various mares, so her riding had been limited, but that was what was special about the Clyde. His dopey and gentle attitude remained, no matter what happened. It showed when he lay down heavily, putting his head in her lap. Once more Ruthie took up the slow playing with his forelock, his large head a heavy comfort in her lap, but he was a comfort nonetheless. Sighing softly, she wanted nothing more than to have an uncomplicated life, but that was never actually possible. Usually she would have gone to Kian with her problems, but he was away. Ieuan hadn’t put Max down in a while and Dafydd was dealing with his own problems.
With a slow and deliberate precision, Ruthie massaged small circles on Doc’s face, hearing the horse’s large rumble of approval and felt him relaxing under her fingers. “So you’re not all about the sex, hey boy,” she joked with the gelding, glad that he was finally relaxing somewhat. If only she could relax with the horse, but there was a small knot of apprehension in her stomach as she had a crazy amount of thoughts running through her head. She didn’t have any choice, but to allow it to come through, and once it was done with her, she was officially bored. Looking around, she sighed, looking thoughtful. She didn’t want to play pranks, seeing that it was the summer and there was no one to really play pranks on. After Max’s accident, no one was allowed to go on the trails alone, so that was another possibility that was ruled out.
Growling softly in frustration, she instantly looked guilty when Doc’s head shot up. When the stallion realised that she had made the noise, he gave Ruthie a look that suggested that she was positively crazy. Chuckling, she allowed him to settle down again, resuming the small circles on his face and neck.
