Shane all but limped into the main office of the college. He had been riding the stallions again, well just those that never really got ridden or shown, and most of them had suitable tempers to be enlisted into the local rodeo. Well, if there was a rodeo to be had that was. After Kris had given birth to Tristan, Shane had decided to stay on at the College, more because he didn’t really want to go back to Germany and well, because Dianna had captured his heart and made it hers. That day, he had arranged for Dianna to look after little Julie, his daughter, and as he limped into the office, he noticed the time. Nap time for his daughter.
He was still exercising horses for students, and there was a young mare that he was backing that had thrown him into a set of uprights. That accounted for the bruising on his cheek and his badger like appearance. The path to the fridge in the office and then to a chair was a familiar one to him. Pressing the ice pack to his cheek, he sighed in relief as he sat down. His ribs stung and body hurt, which probably meant that he was not going to be working the next day either.
Most people could mistake him for a street fighter, his battered and bruised appearance not what most people expected him to actually be. Shifting in the chair, he tried to get comfortable. There were a few streaks of blood on his breeches from when he had been taken on a rampage along a thorn bush. As he sat there, he wondered where Dianna was and he looked around in curiosity. He remembered that Bella had given her Flame recently, so she could have been at the barn with the gelding, but then, she wouldn’t leave Julie alone in the office.
Shane had always wondered what he would have done without Dianna or Julie in his life. It was difficult to think about his past, mainly because it was a dark period in his life. He had been stuck in a poisonous marriage, a job he loved, but a place he hated and then finally ending in a very messy divorce. Now he was happy again. He had a woman he actually loved, albeit she was older than him, but he didn’t care about age. She was beautiful and she was his.
