PERSONALITY:
Hutch is as chilled out as they come, literally nothing fazes this large brute. He just plods through life without a care in the world. He’s polite, well-mannered and social, never grumpy and always willing to put up with the antics of his owner and the other horses. His large size is the only thing stopping him from being picked on by the other horses, and the fact that they adore him. He’s just a lovable character.

To ride, he can be fairly lazy unless you constantly keep onto him. He’ll look for breaks and take them whenever he thinks he can. Throw a cow into the mix though, and he’s on high alert all over again. He loves it when they compete in cutting events; he’s like a colt all over again. Take away the cow, and he’s back to being his oblivious self.

HISTORY:
Hutch was bought by Greg’s father as a replacement for a Clydesdale stud they’d not long lost. He is the offspring of said horse and the man who owned him needed to downsize. They were more than happy to take on Hutch, who was known for his laidback attitude which was an exact copy from his father. Greg adored the chilled stallion and claimed him as his own as soon as Hutch was returned.

AGE: Fifteen

GENDER: Stallion

COLOR: Dark Bay

BREED: Oldenburg

HEIGHT: 17 HH

PERSONALITY:
Jags is a proud, arrogant gentleman with an air of superiority over everyone. He’s not the most social of horses, but he’s not dangerous at all. He’d rather not get involved with the mischievous behaviour displayed by the likes of Tom, nor is he as chilled out as Hutch and he is certainly not as spooky as Vince. In his eyes he’s perfect, and though Greg won’t admit it aloud, he kind of is. His stall manners are unfaultable, his behaviour in the pastures can’t be ridiculed and in the arena he’s a perfect gentleman. This horse just knows it, which is probably his only downfall. His arrogance.

To ride, Jags is just a dream. He’s passed this quality down to Rumour, but even she couldn’t compete against this horse. Puissance, which is Greg’s favourite area to compete in, is what Jags excels at. He’s been in the Olympics twice, and has also thrown many foals that have met the same fate. He just gets on with it with no complaints or annoyances. He’s ridiculously focused and probably one of the most competitive horses around.

HISTORY:
Jags has been with the Richards family since he was a colt. His father, now deceased, was an excellent horse that threw fantastic foals and Jags was one of the best. The handsome stallion has done the yard proud, and though Jags and Greg clash more often than not, he has a strong, steady place in his owner’s heart. Still competing, though not as regularly, Jags is in high demand as a stud so that’s the job he’s mostly fulfilling these days.

BARN NAME: Vince

AGE: Three

GENDER: Stallion

COLOR: Bay

BREED: Thoroughbred

HEIGHT: 16.2 HH

PERSONALITY:
Vince is a flighty youngster who still has a lot to learn. He’s quite spooky, and because he’s not very observant, almost everything catches him off guard. He is very sweet though, just nervous. His stall manners are actually very good for his age, and he’s fairly well-mannered and polite. He’s very submissive around the other horses, and is always up for a game with Tom. Both are inseparable, which Greg isn’t sure what to make of yet. It will either give Vince confidence, or turn him into the terror that is Tom too.

As he’s only recently broken, Vince under saddle is still spooky and flighty. He’s getting used to things. He has shown a lot of potential though, and Greg is really looking forward to working with him. He wants to see how far he can take the thoroughbred, and whether he will keep him or sell him on.

HISTORY:
Vince is the colt of the one horse Greg’s father decided to keep for himself. The horse, Vivid Nightmare, is a top competitive horse now living out his retirement as a stud and pleasure horse. Vince seems to have inherited his father’s show jumping genes, but only time will tell. Logan desperately wants his father to keep the bay, as he adores the sweet but nervous horse.

BARN NAME: Tom

AGE: Fourteen

GENDER: Stallion

COLOR: Skewbald

BREED: Welsh Cob Section D

HEIGHT: 15.1 HH

PERSONALITY:
Tom is the cheekiest horse you may ever come across. He’s always up to something and is just adorable with it. He has a friendly face which you can trust instantly, he’s just fantastically natured. He’s permanently curious and likes to investigate as much as he possibly can. He’s an instigator too, and whenever a fight breaks out between the horses, which is fairly rare, he’s always in the middle of it. He’s taken Vince under his wing, which has proven to be okay so far but it could change when the youngsters confidence grows.

To ride, Tom is just as cheeky as he is on the ground. He takes a while to settle, and isn’t opposed to bucking and rearing though they are never dangerous. He’s almost always prancing and just wants to get going. He’s agile and quick, a perfect barrel horse really, and Greg does love to work with him as there is never a dull moment with Tom.

HISTORY:
Tom was a purchase by Greg’s mother, who fell in love with the cheeky pony. She’s the only person Tom behaves for perfectly but she’s given him to Greg as he’s still a very popular stud horse and they just don’t have the time to deal with his demand. The plucky horse is a firm favourite with both Greg and Logan, and will spend the rest of his life with them.
