Chuck played nervously with the small box, wondering if he had made the right choice. It was a few days before Christmas Eve, and Chuck had agreed to spend it with Summer. She was also going to be the most spoiled person in the history of the Chuck's career. He had snuck in one present each day that he had been there, and soon there was a sizeable amount of items under the tree. Of course he had gotten presents for Sam, Melissa and Max, but the last two's gifts were under his own tree back at the College. Sam, from his perspective, was intent wooing a new police officer, and it was actually quite amusing to watch. Now, he had the last Christmas gift in his hand. It was an engagement ring. Unique, just like Summer, but also simple. It wasn't over the top, it only had about six diamonds in it, but he knew that it would be perfect for the woman he loved. He also had it engraved. In my heart forever, was what it read, and that was the truth.
Chuck wondered which gift she would like more. The various horse accessories, perfume, shopping vouchers was just the beginning. There was also a trip to the South of France for two weeks in the summer, horse head bracelet and then the ring. Only one present really mattered to him, and that was the ring. Pulling on the blazer, Chuck wrapped the scarf around his neck and made his way to the car. Nerves were already pooling in his stomach at the thought of asking Summer to be his wife. It was the type of commitment that he had been running from for majority of his life and when he had met Summer he realised he had found the girl who he wanted to be with for the rest of his life.
Parking outside the flats, Chuck breathed deeply and made his way to Summer's flat. Everything in the town looked so festive, that it was odd to think that by January it would be the bland old town that he was used to. Christmas never seemed more magical than when it snowed. Knocking on the door, he felt his pocket and made sure that the ring was there. RingBracelet

Summer had been inexplicably grumpy for the past week. She didn't know why, but she found herself snapping at anybody and everyone. She had little to no tolerance, and had obviously been getting on the nerves of her colleagues. That was, until Caroline made an observation that threw Summer. It had made sense to Summer as soon as Caroline had mentioned it, and it explained why she had missed a period. It should have occurred to her then, but Summer had been so busy lately that she didn't think about it twice. Now, the lithe female found herself strolling back to her flat. Bear walked faithfully at her side, his tail wagging whenever someone so much as glanced in his direction. Summer herself was clutching a paper bag from the chemist tight to her chest, apprehension on her expression. She was pretty sure that she must be pregnant, but this test would confirm it for her. She had no idea how Chuck would react to the news, but her mind kept coming back to negative reactions. The normally optimistic Summer really wasn't herself with these damn hormones running ragged. If this was just the beginning, she dreaded thinking what she would be like the further she went into her pregnancy. If she was pregnant that is. Twenty minutes later found Summer perched on the edge of the bath, the pregnancy test held tightly in her hand. Her answer hadn't shown up yet. According to the box, she had to wait 15 minutes. She only took the test 5 minutes ago. Her foot tapped impatiently against the floor as she waited for the result to appear, her teeth gnawing her bottom lip worriedly. Being so absorbed in staring at the small, plastic test, she didn't realize that someone had knocked the door until Bear barked to announce someone arrival. Summer jumped at the sudden noise, standing from her seat on the edge of the bath. Placing the test on the counter beside the sink, she left the bathroom with a curious expression. Shushing Bear, who was still doing his guard dog routine, she pulled open the door to reveal Chuck. Gesturing for him to come in, she stretched up to press a quick kiss to his lips. When she leaned back, she seemed to notice the nervous air that Chuck had surrounding him. "What's the matter with you?" she asked him, her tone almost accusing. She winced as it registered, forcing herself to settle a little. She knew it was just the nervousness from taking the pregnancy test, mixed with the apparent hormones, but she knew she shouldn't take it out on Chuck. Smiling at him crookedly, she reached out for one of his hands to try and settle him a little.

Chuck took in a deep breath, looking up as Summer opened the door. His usual grin that lighted his face around her appeared, and all idiocy of being nervous disappeared. He also decided that it was going to be impossible to keep the question back for as long that he wanted to. Taking her hand, he squeezed it softly, kissing her forehead. Hey gorgeous, he said, knowing that he was going to have to do a lot to keep her from snapping at him. He, like others, had noticed that she was a lot more grumpy over the past few days, but he had pushed it out of his mind once they got to the bedroom. His thoughts were slightly hay wire, but it was okay for him.
Taking another deep breath, he led Summer to the living room, greeting an excited Bear as he did so. He turned her around, allowing her to face him and planted another kiss on her lips. For Chuck this was the moment of truth. He got down on one knee, Summer's left hand in both of his. Summer Holmes. I have never met another woman like you. You are beautiful, funny, gorgeous and over all, you are the one person who changed me for the better. I can't live without you any more. Will you marry me Ms. Holmes? Will you consent to be my wife? he said, his vocals strong and confident, a smile playing at his lips and his hazel eyes shining as he looked at hers. With one he removed the small box and opened it, revealing the ring.
As he waited for an answer, he replayed various moments that he spent with Summer over the last few years. The time when they had first met, when he had come back and she was teasing him when Truth was standing on his foot, up to the moment when she had found him in a bar when he missed her the most. There were countless memories after that that made everything so special to him, that made her the one woman in his life that he knew he was going to commit his life to.

Summer followed Chuck into the living room silently, watching him curiously. She chuckled as Bear began his welcoming committee routine, but pointed silently at the kitchen and the lumbering canine retreated in that direction with exaggerated sadness, causing her laughter to pick up again. She grumbled slightly as Chuck turned her around, her anger returning before dispelling just as quickly when he kissed her again. "You’re very affectionate today." she noted aloud. Her eyes widened considerably when she noticed what he was doing, gasping softly and shaking her head. He was down on one knee! Tears sprung automatically in her eyes as he began to speak, quiet sobs forming in her throat. She had a smile on her face though, and even if it was one of shock it was genuine. She listened closely to his words, before gasping again as the ring is revealed. Her mind whirled as Chuck waited for his answer, tears rolling steadily down her cheeks. A small amount of panic began to form in her stomach, but mostly all she could feel was adoration and love for the man kneeling in front of her. The answer blurted from her mouth before her brain could properly catch up. "Yes." Grinning down at him, she urged him up so that he’s standing and wraps her arms around him in a tight embrace. "Of course I will." She murmurs against his chest, smiling in delight. "I love you so much." Her vocals cracked slightly as she spoke the next words, her tears returning. "And it’s about time you asked me." These words were accompanied with a teasing smile, her eyes dancing with humour.

Chuck grinned as she answered him, happiness welling up inside of him. He slid the ring onto her finger, before she helped him up and gave him a tight embrace. He hugged her back, kissing the top of her head. I love you too baby, he replied to her, his vocals soft and caring. This was the most perfect moment that he could ever have, and he knew that nothing was ever going to change that. I know, but it felt right to ask you now, he said, his own smile teasing her. It had always felt right, but the truth was he had managed to get over his commitment issues before he could do any thing else. This was the moment that he knew he could commit to Summer and be in her life fully without the fear that usually came with being someone long term.
I'll be back now, he said, breaking the embrace and heading to the bathroom. He was floating on a cloud, it was as simple as that. He closed the door and happened to glance at the counter. Picking up the pregnancy test, he hesitantly looked at the result, and gasped softly. Summer was pregnant with his child. All moments of needing to use the toilet was forgotten as he sunk down on the seat. It explained why she was so cranky lately, why for some reason certain foods repulsed her, and why she had become a lot more emotional.
Gathering the courage, he opened the door again, the stick still in his hand. Amazement was the main emotion on his face, and he went into the living room. Baby? he said softly, holding out the stick to her, We're going to be parents, he said softly, making up the distance between them, and held her close. He couldn't believe that he was so lucky. This was just as amazing as it could be.

As Chuck broke away, Summer nodded and headed for the kitchen to make sure that Bear wasn’t sulking too much. Chuckling when she saw that he had sprawled himself out on the floor, head flat on the ground and looking up at her with wide, sad eyes, she crouched down and cooed at him gently. "Oh Bear, I’m not mad at you baby." She assured him, laughing softly when his tail began to thump against the ground rhythmically. "Guess who’s getting married, handsome." Her lips had pulled into a bright smile as she thought of it, becoming Chuck’s wife. Wrapping her arms around Bear, who had snuggled into her chest as tightly as a large German shepherd could, she gave a quiet squeal of delight. Something she would furiously deny later. Straightening up and exiting the kitchen again, this time with Bear hot on her heels, she rose a brow as Chuck made his way toward her with an amazed expression. Watching him curiously, she looked surprised at his words. Her brow furrowed, trying to place what the hell he was talking about, before recognition flooded her expression. Taking the test, she stared at it blankly. Positive. Allowing herself to be gathered in his arms, she cursed herself softly for forgetting about the test. A smile had worked its way over her lips though, a hand automatically finding its way to her stomach and caressing gently. If she pressed slightly, there was a small bump to be felt. This surprised her further. How on earth had she not clued in sooner? "I’m going to be a mother." She whispered, her vocals disbelieving.

Chuck watched her expression carefully, knowing that it could be going either way. He grinned when he heard her words, and he nodded. And I am going to be a father, he said softly, resting his hand on top of hers. His flesh and blood was growing in her belly. His son or daughter was going to come into the world and this time he would be in it for the long haul. Melissa he loved, and he hated that he hadn't known about her since the beginning, but she was just as special to him. Now, will you move in with me? he asked. It was really the night of surprises for both of them, but it was the best night he had had in a while.
Chuck kissed her softly, gently leading her to a couch and pulling her onto his lap as he sat down. His hand rested easily on her abdomen, feeling the slight bump that had already formed. This was a growing child, his child, their child. If this was a few years ago, he would have freaked out completely, but Summer had become so much part of his life, that the thought didn't even cross his mind. Bear also demanded attention, and with his free hand, Chuck scratched the dogs head, a contented hum forming in his throat. I love you so much, he whispered to her, kissing her neck softly.

Summer smiled fondly down at his hand has it rested over her own. "You’re going to be a fantastic father." She assured him softly, smiling up at him. Her mind was whirling as they lapsed into silence, her eyes unfocused slightly with thought at who she’d have to tell. Olivia would be outraged if Sam found out before her, which put her best friend at the top of the list and then her brother and parents. She chuckled softly to herself before being shaken from her thoughts by Chuck. The question didn’t register straight away; she continued to stare at him blankly. It then seemed to sink in, and her eyes widened. The question made her pause, her answer rolling around in her mouth. She finally nodded, her smile returning. "Of course I will." She answered, allowing him to pull her down onto the couch. Rolling her eyes as she was pulled into his lap, she held back her protests and settled against his chest. She grinned as Bear decided that he wanted to get in on the cuddles, and she allowed Chuck to fuss him before giving the dog a stern look and pointing at his bed. Bear lumbered over dejectedly, shooting Summer disheartened looks over his shoulder. She just shook her head, waiting until he’d flopped down on his bed before returning her attention to Chuck. "And I love you too." She smiled at him, shuddering lightly as she felt his lips on her neck. Raising a brow, she adjusted herself so that she was now straddling his hips, a devilish smirk in place. "Are you putting the moves on me?" She asked innocently, slowly grinding against him while keeping up the wide eyed, oblivious expression.
