Summer grinned as she read the email that had been sent to her by Caroline not twenty minutes ago. Apparently they had a new officer starting with them today, yet another female. The station had gained quite a reputation for having a majority female officer base, and had been a laughing stock for a while until the surrounding stations realized how well Caroline Thomas and her girls worked together. Summer was deeply amused by the fact how their force only seemed to be growing with female applicants. She did wonder though how a male would fit in with them, or if he'd just be completely intimidated. With a shrug, she popped the last of her toast into her mouth and gestured for Bear to get off the sofa. "Come on handsome, time for work!" she exclaimed, pulling on her jacket. Her massive German Shepherd trotted after her eagerly, his lumbering frame almost prancing as they departed the flat.
As usual, Summer was the first to arrive at the station. Caroline would not be in today as she was taking Chloe Christmas shopping, apparently her bosses granddaughter was not taking no for an answer. She wasn't sure if Nancy was in today, She'd forgotten to ask her colleague yesterday, but it still wasn't unusual for Summer to be the first in. She always had been an early riser, and found that she was always more productive the earlier it was in the morning. Letting Bear into the station, she watched as he made a beeline for the bed tucked under her desk and curled up into it. Almost instantly the large brute fell right back to sleep, causing Summer to chuckle in amusement. "Lazy bones." she called affectionately as she hung up her jacket and then made her own way over to the desk.
An hour passed quickly, and just as she was finishing up the paperwork on a theft from yesterday, the sound of the front door opening alerted her of a visitor. She glanced at the clock, which told her that it was just after 9am, and then to the black haired male who emerged into the office. "You're up early," Summer commented to her still fairly sleepy brother. Sam grinned, before stepping to the side to allow an impatient Rico past. The Alaskan malamute bounded over to Summer, a dopey grin on his mouth as he made his way over. "I just couldn't wait to visit my beautiful sister." Sam cooed innocently, plonking himself unceremoniously into the chair across from her, leaning his elbows on the desk. Summer rolled her eyes, "What do you want? Money?" Sam looked offended briefly, before grinning sheepishly. "I knew you had an ulterior motive." Summer sighed, pushing Rico down as he tried to get into her lap.
After Sam had managed to con 50 pounds out of Summer, he decided to stick around when he heard of a new police officer starting. Summer shooed him away from her desk, claiming he was distracting her, so he was now busying himself in making a huge rubber band ball. Summer now had both the dogs curled up under her desk, which was hell of an achievement considering how big the pair were, but welcomed them happily. "Summer," Sam began with a whine, "I'm bored!" he grumbled. Summer shot him an impatient glare. "Go back to the college and do some work then! Or go and spend that 50 quid I just gave you." she snapped, ignoring his amused smirk. "It's my day off, and no. I'm attempting to save." He retorted airily, earning another glare. "The new girl will be here any moment, maybe she'll be nice enough to distract you for a while." she grumbled, ignoring the hopeful look on Sam's face. "Hope she's hot." he added, a small smirk on his lips. Right on Que, the front door swung open once again. The sibling's both peered in that direction, trying to catch sight of the visitor.
