Cara walked into Campbell Stables and headed right down to the stall that housed her young Vanner gelding. Without saying a word to the curious horse who looked out over the half dutch door, she let herself into the stall and slid to the ground in the corner where the fed bucket was placed.
She'd left the college two months earlier to go on hiatus or at least that's what she had told everyone when they asked why she was leaving during the term. In truth, she had spent the past couple of months trying to find herself. Had it worked? Well, the girl - or young adult - was a shadow of herself (not that she was anymore then a shadow before she had gone away), and the only colour on her expressionless face were the shadows under her eyes from lack of sleep.
Letting out a heavy breath, she rubbed her pounding temples as she thought back over her time away and the bottle of sleeping pills that she had crushed and washed down the drain as soon as she had dropped her bag off in her dorm room. As a way of dealing with her insomnia, she had been prescribed the pills. She didn't have insomnia, she just chose not to sleep and the pills made it impossible for her to be able to wake herself up from the nightmares that plagued her sleep.
She looked up as a white and pink nose was thrust into her face and a warm breath floated over her face, a ghost of a smile momentarily touched the girl's lips as she blew up the gelding's nostrils in return. "You would be happier with another human." She told the skewbald as she tickled his chin. "I shall finish your training and try and find you a new home." She was strongly considering the sale of all her equines. She could barely look after herself, how did she think she was going to look after the animals as well.
She rested her head back against the wall and chewed on her lower lip. Before leaving where she had been, she knew that they were sending a letter to the college, explaining to the principal what needed to be done, that her food diary had be checked at the end of every day and that she was to be chaperoned in the dining hall. She clenched her teeth as a shiver ran through her, for all she knew, the letter had arrived before she had.
Looking up through her eyelashes at the gelding who was looking down at her with inquisitive eyes, she gave another heavy breath. "I'm doomed, Noah." She said, her voice barely a whisper. "No matter what I do, I can't please everyone."
