Kristin stood in front of the closet, two Labradors flanking her sides like knights. The baby bump was more visible now, and for once, she started wondering if this was the right thing. Already she had had so much heartache with the loss of her previous pregnancies, and now it was a reality. Dafydd was already waiting for her, but she needed this time alone to think. The maternity clothes wasn't much to look at, but they were comfortable. Finishing off by putting her slightly damp hair in a pony, she went to the living room, a nervous smile on her face.
Ready to go? she asked, looking at the man she had loved for the last two years. She knew that her hormones were slightly confronting, and like Jax, Dafydd bolted at the thought of her losing it at any moment. It wasn't her fault, honestly, but men were all the same. One change, and they freak out completely. No wonder women made such crappy bosses. Luna and Jax whined slightly at being left behind, and Kris felt even worse. First Dafydd and now her dogs. What next? Her horses?
She tried not to think about riding. The fact that she couldn't was bad enough, but at least she could spend time around them. She was now fourteen weeks into her pregnancy, and this time, Dafydd was coming with to the scan. She had casually forgotten to mention a small thing about the last one that she had. She didn't want him to have a heart attack in the apartment. It also sound better coming from the doctor if he heard it. Less chance of him fainting... she hoped.
Thankfully Dafydd was driving, but every now and then she glimpsed the "deer caught in the headlight" look on his face. Merely shaking her head, she turned her attention to the scenery flashing past. The drive to the hospital seemed to take forever, but they were there within time. Lacing her fingers through Dafydd's, she she made her way to the secretary. Kristin Fitzpatrick for Dr. de Lioncourt, she said, her Scottish accented vocals happy. Take a seat. He'll be right out, the older woman answered.

Dafydd sat leisurely on the sofa, Cedar at his feet and Icey beside him. The malamute had long ago decided that he got the same treatment as Dafydd while at home. The Icey you saw with his master in the day, in the office and around campus was completely different. This one was much more relaxed and demanding, much to Dafydd's dismay. Anyway, the three had just arrived back from the office and awaiting Kristin to get ready. It was Kristin's fourteen week scan, and this time Dafydd would be accompanying her. He hadn't been able to for the others. He was surprisingly relaxed at the moment, but he knew that as soon as she reentered the room he'd be on edge. He'd been awful during Jayden's pregnancy, but was even worse with Kristin. Every thing he did, he did it carefully. He didn't want to annoy her or stress her out. She snapped at him often and he'd retreat to give her space. He felt bad about it, but it was his way of trying to keep the baby safe. High stress levels didn't help, did they?
He became alert again even before Kristin entered the room. It was as if he could sense her approaching. He stood up just as she entered the room, quirking a brow at her nervous smile. He shook it off though. He put it down to the scan. He placed a slight smile on his face and nodded. "Mhmm. Let's go." he said quietly, before placing his arm around her waist and leading her from the room. The four canines watched them with forlorn expressions, causing Dafydd to smile. They despised being left behind. Shaking his head minutely, they carried on down the hall and out to the car. Before he knew it, he was driving through town and getting closer and closer to the hospital.
The nearer they grew, the more panicked Dafydd became. Every few seconds, a new worry would pop into his head. He knew this scan would make him realize how real this actually was. His eyes grew wide as they finally arrived at the hospital, and he reluctantly turned off the vehicle. He was being a big baby, he knew that, but after losing one child already made him stupidly cautious. Numbly, he left the car and squeezed Kristin's hand gently as hers slid into his. Following her silently to the reception, the wide eyed expression still in place. It looked like he wasn't the only one either. They passed a few men echoing his feelings. "At least i'm not the only one." he mumbled to himself, looking at his feet. It made him feel like a lost child, a feeling he hadn't felt for years. Not since Jayden died at least. It made him feel a little sick to his stomach.
Something inside him seemed to snap then, and his shoulders straightened a little and his gaze returned to Kristin. He wiped the stupid look off his face and forced himself to relax a little. There was still a little tension surrounding him, but nowhere near as much as before. The receptionist then told them both to sit, so Dafydd let Kristin over to the hard, uncomfortable seats. His thumb traced soothing circles on the back of her hand as they sat there, more for himself to concentrate so that his mind wouldn't run away with him. Again. Where was the doctor anyway? Lets get this show on the road.

Kristin watched as the minutes ticked by agonizingly slow. It was hard to focus on one thing, but rather her mind darted around and focussed on various things. The comfort came however from Dafydd who was tracing small circles on her hand with her thumb. Taking a deep breath, she relaxed and waited for the doctor. The receptionist gave her a smile, and nodded towards an approaching male.

Lestat was having an interesting day at work. It never failed to amuse him when working with the pregnant women that they were all so chirpy and happy, and their husbands or boyfriends were having mini heart attacks. One had to be carried out from the scan room because he had fainted. It didn't help that he was going to be a father of triplets, but Lestat got similar reactions from those that were only having one child.
Finishing off with his patient, he made his way out of the office for the next appointment. The waiting room was still busy enough, and Lestat sighed at the amount of anxious fathers he was still going to face. Fitzpatrick, he called, and saw the some what familiar face get up, and along with her a man that he hadn't seen before. He nodded to the secretary, and walked ahead of the pair slightly to the office. Lestat held opened the door, and waited for the couple to enter. Afternoon. I'm Doctor de Lioncourt, he introduced himself to the man, and after a brief handshake, seated himself at his desk.
Rifling through the paperwork in front of him, he started talking. So the Down Syndrome test came back negative on both foetuses, and there seemed to be no other complications. So we can go ahead with the scan. You know the drill, he said to Kristin, who nodded quietly in response. The scan room is just through there, he said to Dafydd, and pointed to the door.

Kristin waited for everything to be said, and though she was happy that her, their, children wouldn't have down syndrome, there was also the small fact that Dafydd might have picked up on the twin fact. Sighing quietly, she changed into the hospital gown, the soft material feeling scratchy against her skin. By the time she entered the scan room, she was the only one, but as she settled on the bed, Dafydd came in. She sought his comfort, and held his hand once again.
