Spending time with the horses was becoming increasingly difficult, and so the treasured afternoons were even more precious. Julian was every bit queer as his dress code would suggest. Today it was navy blue breeches, neon pink polo shirt and aviator's. On his arms were the leather cuffs, and his white gloves slapped against his thigh as he walked. Whistling, he approached Lolly's stall. The fizzy gelding paced the stall upon seeing his owner, and Julian fussed a bit before fetching tack. A run on the cross-country course was somewhat deserved and he hoped that Lolly would behave himself at least. Reaching the tack room, he found a somewhat familiar face busy cleaning tack.
Hey stranger, he greeted Serena, concerned about her appearance. They had met in the tack room, and had become quick friends. Of course that was when she still had Jude in her life. Now that he was heaven's knows where she had dropped weight and purple circles underlined her eyes. Hey Julian, she answered, her voice a mere whisper.
Serena felt guilty for neglecting her friendships. After Jude just disappeared, she wondered what she would have to do now. He had been part of her life for had felt like ages, but had been a mere year. He had left without a word, but before a promise of marriage. He had given her a promise ring to signify his commitment. She had followed him to England, and now everything was thrown back in her face. I'm going to tackle the cross country course with Lolly. Want to join us? Julian asked, breaking through her thoughts. In an answer she numbly shook her head, and carried on with the methodical work of cleaning tack. I'm not taking no for an answer, Julian added, and Serena stared at him. Fine. I'll go saddle up Psych then, she responded, chucking a sponge at him, which he ducked.
Both grabbed tack, and Julian saddled up quickly. Grabbing a helmet and a body protector, he waited for Serena to make an appearance. She took her time getting Psych ready, and though he wasn't a cross-country horse, they popped over the smaller fences. Most of the time, they took a gallop, the scenic area being a change from that of the sand track. When she finally met Julian, he was busy texting her. Let's get going then, he joked, and mounted. Serena did the same, and they set a brisk pace to the start of the course.
