Cara grabbed a handful of ponynuts and stuffed them in her pocket before she made her way down to the pastures. She had many plans for her newest equine purchase, but first of all she needed to get the pony to accept her as not only a member of her herd, but seeing her as the alpha mare.
Livvy had arrived at the college still heavily sedated and hadn't given the girl any issues as she was led from the float and down to the pasture. She knew that being an unbacked mustang, the pony would be happier out in the pasture, and as soon as the sedation had worn off, the pony had been tracking the fenceline. The teen had left her alone then, knowing that she couldn't do anything that day, she would give the buckskin a chance to settle in before she started anything.
It had now been a couple of days since the mare's arrival, and Cara had spent a while in the pasture with the mare a couple of times each day, between spending time in class and with her other horses - both the ones she owned and the college-owned horses that she was working with.
She slowed her pace as she approached the pasture and watched the small mare who was standing in the middle of the pasture with her head raised and ears pricked, her back toward the human girl was was approaching the fence. Cara followed the mare's gaze, but wasn't able to see anything out of the ordinary. "Livvy." She called gently, breaking the mare's attention away from whatever she had been watching, but spooking her so that she took off around the outside of the pasture. "It's okay." She soothed as she entered the pasture and walked to stand in the middle so that she was out of the mare's flightpath.
The teen stood still, her shoulders relaxed, her stance casual so that when the mare took notice of her, she wouldn't appear to be driving the mare away. She was here as a friend.
It didn't take long before Livvy's panicked flight slowed down and she finally took notice of the girl in the middle of the field. She slowed from a gallop to a canter and then a trot, her hindquarters swung toward the outside of the pasture so that she was almost trotting sideways as she studied the girl in the middle, but she didn't make any attempt to come closer to the human.
Cara watched the mare through her eyelashes, she also made no attempt to walk toward the mare. This had to be a decision that the mare made. It was almost like the ideas of join-up, but she wasn't driving the mare as the pretty pony was already circling the girl on her own accord.
Slowly and carefully, Cara put her hand in her pocket and closing her hand around the ponynuts, she then pulled her hand from her pocket and held her arm out with her palm flat, offering the treats to the pony who still trotted around the small human.
A movement outside the pasture spooked the mare and the buckskin spun around to look at what had caused the movement, her entire being once again on alert.
