How anyone could complain about doing the rounds for their horses astounded him. There was nothing he found more rewarding that seeing each of his horses faces light up when they saw him coming. Even Slumber, who was usually quite hostile. Speaking of the devil, and he shall appear. As soon as Josh turned the corner to get to the pasture that held his handsome stallion, Slumber's cranium shot up and he began to canter toward his owner. It probably had something to do with the bucket of feed in Josh's hands. Chuckling happily, he placed the bucket inside the pasture and climbed up onto the fence as he awaited the equine to finish his feed. Yesterday had been a day devoted to both Slumber and Ray. The two boys had been neglected over the past week as there had been a certain arrival at Lockwood stables that had taken up a lot of Josh's time. He grinned as he thought of little Mia, Ruby's new baby. The little filly was a shy thing, but such a sweetheart. Pretty much everyone had fallen in love with her at first glance. It helped that she was one of the cutest little fillies Josh had ever laid eyes on. Her curly coat, just like her parents, was just adorable. Anyway, yesterday the day had been divided between Slumber and Ray, both had been on the trails and a little flat work in the arena. As well as some pampering. But today was for Ruby and Mia again. Josh hoped to get Melissa down to meet Mia for the first time. Slumber eventually finished, making it his duty to rub his feed covered muzzle into Josh's shirt. Rolling his eyes, Josh hopped down from the fence and grabbed the bucket. He promised his temperamental stallion that he'd be back in the evening to bring him in. Taking the bucket back to Slumber's stall, he brushed off the food his horse had left on him and then pulled out his phone. "Hey Lissa, come down to Lockwood Stables. I have someone for you to meet. (:" He typed out the text to Melissa and sent it before even thinking. After his phone alerted him that it had been sent, his brow creased in worry. What if she didn't want to meet him? Was he being to demanding? Brushing off the unpleasant thoughts, he assured himself that he was being stupid. She wouldn't mind. Sighing ever so quietly, he began the short walk to Lockwood Stables. He'd fed Ray before Slumber, so he didn't have to worry about his goofy Warmblood either. Josh entered the stables with a smile back in place on his handsome face. A few mares welcomed him as he passed their stall, and he paused to give a few some attention. He then ran in to Miss Jones, who was in the process of trying to get her stubborn Donkey colt from his stall. Josh chuckled, before addressing her situation in amusement. "He's getting more and more defiant, isn't he Miss Jones?" he grinned, when she looked over her shoulder to him. "Don't I bloody know it. Do me a favor and squeeze in behind him and push him as I pull. Layla won't mind you, she needs a break from the terror. Josh nodded and squeezed past the colt, and pressed his hand onto his rump. Ozzy squealed in defiance, shooting out of the stall like a bullet. Both Miss Jones and Josh laughed, and Josh shut the stall door behind him as he left. "Mia's looking wonderful Josh, Ruby and Slumber did you proud with that little one. I think her bashful nature won't last much longer though, I can see her being just as temperamental as her father."[/i] Miss Jones told him as they walked to Mia and Ruby's stall. Josh grinned at the compliment of his filly. "Oh, I know! I'm just relishing in her attitude for now. Well, I better get Ruby her feed. You know how impatient she can be." He said as they got to the stall. Miss Jones said her good byes and began to lead Ozzy out of the stables and along the path to the pastures. Josh briefly entered Ruby's stall, taking her bucket and then making his way to the feed room. Ruby was tucking into her feed as Josh settled himself inside the stall. Mia had to be occupied while her mother ate, otherwise she began to pester Ruby. As soon as Josh sat, the little filly wandered over to him and dropped her cranium so that he could scratch behind her audits, her favorite place. She sighed in contentment, and Josh's mind strayed to the female who hopefully would be arriving soon. He hadn't checked his phone to see if a text had arrived, and couldn't bring himself to just in case she rejected him. Mia must have sensed her owners distressed thoughts and snapped him out of his mind by thrusting her muzzle into his face. He realized he must have stopped scratching, and picked up the affectionate action once again. The filly lowered herself so that she was now lying down, her cranium resting in his lap as she awaited her mother to finish eating. Josh was just trying to distract himself before Melissa arrived. Or not..

Melissa frowned down at Sparks before looking up to survey the scene before her again. Loopy and Samba were grazing peacefully, while Levi trotted toward them. Sham was coming in from the opposite direction. From the way Sham was placing her hooves and held her tail, Lissa knew no good was going to come of this.
The Arabian mare squealed and began to charge. At the signal, the large crossbred gelding also began to gallop. The two flew by each other, cutting between their grazing pasturemates. Samba looked surprised, and Loopy neighed and began to chase the other gelding, bucking as he went.
The sixteen year old laughed at her horses antics, Sparks' tail thunping the grass at the sound. She loved to watch things like this. Observing her horses playing and having fun simply made the day better. Not that her day had been bad at all. She hadn't given it the chance to turn into a bad day.
She felt her phone vibrate, and she quickly pulled it from her pocket. A new text message showed on the screen, a text message from Josh. She didn't realize that her face had lit up when she read the name, and she pressed a few buttons to open the message. After reading it, she tapped out a reply. I'll be right there, just gotta put the banderdash in it's crate. After it flew off, she put away the phone and stood, brushing off the seat of her jeans.
Seeing how it was a sunny day, she was wearing a tank top. It wasn't anything special, which was rather unlike her; just plain dark grey. Of course, the jeans were normal, and her converse were still as wild as they had ever been. Lissa retied her blond locks into a bun, trying to tame it, but the style still managed to be messy.
As she and Sparks made their way to the barn, she wondered why Josh would want her to meet him there. Perhaps to meet his horse? Maybe just to meet him? She seriously doubted the latter. Josh was two years older than her, and probably had girls fawning over him. Girls that were taller than her, better looking than her, and older. And prettier. Much, much prettier.
As the pair approached the barn, Lissa gave Sparks a hand signal that meant to stay. The dalmatian sat and look up at her with his blue eyes. She patted his head. "Sorry buddy, but we don't want you to scare any of the mommas or the babies." He licked her hand, and she turned to head inside.
She wandered up and down the barn aisle, looking for her fluffy haired friend. She didn't see him and began to wonder if she had the right barn. She brought her hand to her chin as she looked around one last time, not catching sight of him at all. With a sigh, she wondered how to make him become visable. She couldn't remember any Make-Your-Best-Friend-Visable spells, so instead she began to recite the first thing to come to mind. "I can't believe my eyes... Is the world finally growing wise... 'Cause it seems to me, some kind of harmony is on the rise..." As she sang softly, she went and checked in the stalls, scratching noses and rubbing ears as she went and searched.

Josh chuckled quietly as Mia tumbled into her mother, shaking her head in confusion as to what she just did. Ruby's head lifted briefly, shooting a scolding glance toward her offspring before going back to finish her food. The young filly looked properly chastised, turning to Josh for support and comfort. She was obviously a little put out due to her subtle telling off. Josh opened his arms wide and the petite foal skittered towards him. She was still small enough that while he was sitting, her cranium was level with his. Wrapping his arms around her neck and placing his fore head to hers, he broke the silence with another chuckle. "Mama's little angel had a telling off?" he cooed with a grin, causing the youngster to snuffle his face affectionately. His smile just widened, and he continued to make a fuss of her until a buzzing noise sounded from his pocket.
With great difficulty, due to Mia's curiosity of the phone, Josh managed to wrestle it from his pocket. He grinned at the response he got from Melissa. Though he didn't always understand what she was talking about, she never ceased to amuse and amaze him. It seemed that the text had arrived later than it was sent though, because as soon as he put his phone away, he heard the soft singing that he'd come to associate with Melissa. The smile that spread over his features was beautiful, and he quickly scrambled on to his feet. Excited by his sudden motions, Mia skittered after him energetically. He slipped out the stall door, past Ruby who was blocking her daughter from going with her owner. Brushing the shavings from his jeans and t-shirt, he looked up and came pretty much face to face with Lissa. He beamed at her.
"Melissa!" he greeted her with so much enthusiasm that it should be embarrassed, but couldn't find the need to be. He reached out to clasp her hand, still grinning, and pulled her closer to him unconsciously. "It's so good to see you again, I miss being around you." he told her sincerely, squeezing her hand ever so slightly as if it confirmed his point. "C'mon, I have someone you need to meet." He told her, keeping hold of her hand and tugged gently to get her to follow. It was barely ten steps back to Ruby and Mia's stall, but Josh insisted on keeping hold of Lissa's hand. Plus, it felt right. He hope it felt the same to her. As they got back to the stall, Ruby peered out with an expression that clearly said "Ugh, you again." before she spotted Lissa.
After Ruby had finished enthusiastically greeting Melissa with a whinny and insisted on the girl giving her a fuss, a small white muzzle tried to peek over the stall door. Opening the door with his free hand, he stepped a little out the way to reveal Mia. "Meet Mia, Ruby and Slumber's little filly." he beamed, pride evident in his expression and tone. The youngster had suddenly becoming a little bashful and was tucked slightly under her mother's stomach, but was peering at Melissa curiously. She nickered quietly, unsure of the situation, but was edging forward step by step. Obviously the need to make friends was more powerful than being shy.

Melissa's voice was soft, but it carried. Spencer had helped the young actress with her musical perfomance, training her vocals to carry the softest pitch to the back of the entire audience, and she'd responded to the training well, even if she had no idea that she did. She'd also been graced with a few dancing lessons, and she she flowed from one horse to the other, spinning as a few lyrics from various songs flowed from her, a soft smile on her face as she embraced and greeted each mare and foal who were friendly enough to say hello. She slowly made her way to Ruby's stall.
And then he was there, that smile on his face, brushing shaving off of his sleek form. She adverted her eyes, biting her lip shyly. When he caught sight of her, she smiled in return, especially when he said her name. She liked the way he did that. As he reached out, she lifted her hand, placing it in his, thinking he wanted to shake it. "Salutations Josh. It's a pleasure to see you again." While it might sound a little formal, the greeting was extremely casual for Melissa. She was a little taken aback by his next words, seeming stunned. He had missed her? She gazed at him curiously. "Well, I'm glad that my odd tendancies have not forced you to sort me under the category of odd girl with imaginary friends. Though, I do rather like that category." the squeeze on her hand made her heart race a little bit, and she smiled softly as she tighted fingers, which were usually tinted with charcoal, against his. "And I'm thrilled to meet them, whoever they are." Perhaps, though, this meeting was one to his girlfriend, a way of gently telling her not to fall for him when he was already taken? She allowed herself to be pulled over to the stall.
His fingers were slightly calloused, probably from guitar playing and riding. His hand enveloped her's, and the powerful muscles that helped him to worked around the barn held her much smaller hand delicately, like a tiny bird. She realized that they seemed to feel perfect like that. She didn't want him to let go.
But, they were soon at Ruby's stall, so Josh let go of her hand as she brought the limb up to greet Ruby with just as much enthusiam as Ruby had exhibated to gain Melissa' attention. ruby and Melissa had met before, of course, just as she had been introduced to all of Josh's horses on the days when they had walked around campus with each other. and he'd of course, been introduced to her quartet.
But, Melissa simply gasped when little Mia was reveled. "Hello, gorgeous." She murmured, holding out a hand to the little foal. "How are you today?" Mia. A good name for the baby. Melissa held out her palm to the baby, and soon Mia came over and sniffed it, her soft breath blowing into Melissa's hand. She licked it a little, and Lissa giggled, forgetting Josh was standing over them. She reached out her hand, running her fingers through the foal's little upright mane, then down her sweet face, softly and gently so that she wouldn't spook the baby. "Wou're just perfect, aren't you?" she cooed lovingly, scratching the velvety nose.

Josh watched as Melissa interacted with Ruby so effortlessly, grinning for ear to ear. Yes, Ruby was a lovely mare but wasn't always the most social. Yet, she always had a greeting for Melissa when she came to see her, which pleased Josh no end. It had to be a good sign, right? Melissa's attention soon switched from Ruby to Mia, and Josh's heart simple swelled at the sight. He, at heart, was a gooey romantic, and this sight just appealed to him dramatically. He adored Lissa, there was no other word for it. Completely smitten with the girl, he knew he'd have to act on it soon. He was fed up of dancing around it, and deep down he had an inkling that Lissa liked him too.
Mia was completely taken with the female, pressing her head into Melissa's chest and snuffling her face at an alarming rate. Josh smiled warmly, though his mind was racing. When should he tell her how he felt? More importantly, how? Then, the girl before him presented him with the perfect opportunity.
"You're just perfect, aren't you?"
Josh sucked in a deep breath, before answering to the question she'd directed at the little foal currently holding her attention. "Much like someone else here right now." he murmured, just loud enough that he knew she'd hear it. The barn suddenly fell completely silent, causing Josh to hold his breath briefly before he moved closer to the vixen whom had captured his heart the moment he'd met her. He bend down to capture her hand in his, pulling her up so that she was standing. Mia had retreated into her stall to feed from her mother the instant Lissa's attention was taken from her, and Josh quickly swung the stall door closed.
"Lissa, I've been waiting to do this since our walk in the park." he told her softly, his oracles flashing down to her lips briefly before back to her eyes. Before his mind could find a reason to prevent himself from doing it, he pressed his lips to hers. His hands instantly found purchase around her waist, pulling her tightly to him. He was probably getting ahead of himself, but there was only so long he could keep himself from doing what he just did. Eventually, the need to breath became overwhelming. Pulling his lips from hers, he took a deep breath and rest his forehead against her own, oracles still locked with hers. "Waited.. so long." he muttered breathlessly, though his expression was a little panicked as he began to wonder how she'd react.

Melissa's lithe body stilled at the soft words, her breath catching He couldn't have meant what she thought he did, could he? No way, that's be way too amazing. Nevertheless, her curious and almost hopeful eyes turned up to gaze at the tall male who was almost two years older than herself. She was still silent as he took her hands and lifted her gently to her feet, allowing him to hold her fingers in his own as he spilled his desire to her. She gazed at him in open amazement, but before she could even contemplate a response, his full lips were moving gently with hers, his large hands finding her waist and pulling him close.
She closed her sparkling eyes, leaning into him, her hands resting on his chest, a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. His hands holding her were so much better than she could have ever thought they would be. And he was simply the absolute perfect height for her. She gave a shaky breath as he released her mouth to gaze down at her. Their foreheads met, and blond hair twined with blond locks. "I'm glad you finally did it." She murmured to him in return, her slender form pressing it's slight weight against him. She hummed a slight tune, looking down to play with the collar of his shirt a little. "You would think that people would have had enough of silly love songs..." She giggled a little nervously. I thought I was crazy for thinking you'd return what I thought I'd made up." She paused, biting her lip. "Well, crazier than normal." She gave a slight shrug, looking up to meet Josh's eyes once more, a shy smile on her lips.

Josh had never been as happy as he had been when Melissa responded to his kiss, his heart soaring excitedly. His hunch had been right, she did reciprocate the same feelings he had. Never had he been so glad that he had acted upon impulse. He gave a quiet chuckle as she answered his words, and then grinned as she began to sing. "But I look around me and I see it isn't so." he finished, before his expression softened. "Never crazy, only unique," he told her, pressing his lips to hers chastely. "And it was never made up, it just took me a while to build up the courage to act on it." he concluded with a sheepish grin.
Josh suddenly pulled back a little. "My mother and grandmother always taught me to be a gentleman, so Lissa, here is my attempt." He told her, a small, shy grin upon his face. There was a light blush staining his cheeks as he parted his lips to speak again. "Melissa, i'd love to be able to call you my girlfriend, so would you do the honor of being so? As well as accompanying me on a date next weekend?" he asked, already planning next weekend in his head. A broad grin tugged at his lips as he awaited her answer, though it was obvious he was nervous about receiving her answer. Although, by now he should realize that she wasn't going anywhere.

Melissa looked up at Josh in surprise, her head cokcing slightly. "You... You don't think I'm crazy?" She seemed genuinely surprised as she gazed up at Josh with her multi colored eyes, but the orbs closed at the second kiss. She had a thousand and one things going through her head. She'd never had a boyfriend before, and here an extremely handsome boy was kissing her in what could be described as an eager manner. She was quite pleased with this development of events, but still stunned to the point of being speechless.
She looked up at him curiously, her features still seeming to try and register that this was really happening. She blinked at the other blond owlishly. "Do I make you nervous? You have no reason to be nervous around me. I'm as harmless as a huffalump." She gave him a tiny, shy smile. Her thoughts kept asking 'why would he choose me?' but she decided she would ask him later.
She gazed up at him kittenishly as well, her eyes curious and soft as he asked the question, certain he could hear the thumping of her pounding heartbeat. "Yes." She whispered to him, a very happy smile starting to cover her face. "Yes to both. I'd love to." She pressed her lips to his nose, then pulled away blushing and looking shy again. She seemed to have become even more shy and awkward in the last few minutes, her eyes avoiding eye contact with him, unsureness making her bite her lip. He face was still flushed lightly.
