Sighing, Ruthanne leaned her back against the seat of the cab that she had taken from the airport. For once she felt excited that she would finally be able to see the gang after the holidays. Well, her extended holiday, seeing that she had flown directly from Scotland to the airport at Hertfordshire after landing in Edinburgh from Paris. The whole family had spent the holiday in various area's of France, visiting family and her brother's grave. She was jet lagged beyond belief, flying always taking it's toll, no matter how short the flights. She looked at the green view behind the shaded lenses of the aviator sunglasses that she wore.
Ruth never really felt the cold, but there was some good weather about and today was one of those days. Dressed in leggings and short shorts, she had a loose tunic type top on and silver ballet flats. She was rocking her style, but it was comfortable and that was all that mattered. The College soon came into view, but the entrance was lined with trees and she didn't regret coming to the college at all. The taxi driver pulled up in front of an old age brick style building with ivy climbing the walls and modern glass doors as an entrance.
Please just wait until I'm back, she asked the cabby, and received a nod in reply. He was being paid after all for the time he waited. Ruthie walked through the glass doors, apprehension building inside of her as she walked to the front desk. Can you point me to Dafydd Rees' office? she asked the woman behind it, and received quick, friendly instructions. She hadn't seen Dafydd in over a year since she had landed in the hospital after a riding accident and her parents had requested him to visit. Apparently a lot had happened since then in his life, and not much in her's.
Ruthie brushed the blonde bangs out of her eyes and walked towards Dafydd's secretary. Is he in? she asked with a smile, and tinted accent. After speaking nothing but French for three months, it had taken a toll on her usual Welsh accent. Yes love, you can go on in, the older woman answered. Ruthie nodded and proceeded to knock on the door. She didn't wait for a reply and walked right in. Hey Uncle Dafydd, she greeted.

Dafydd sighed deeply, the heels of his palms scrubbing his bleary eyes as he dragged his feet toward the office. Narrowly missing a coffee table as his eyes adjusted back to full potential, Dafydd paused by the desk of his secretary. The older woman gave him a sympathetic look, patting his hand gently as he placed it on top of her desk. Dafydd smiled at her tiredly. "Anyone coming in today?" he asked her as pleasantly as he could. His vocals were stress soaked, worn out and slightly hoarse. There was a lot going on at the moment, and no where near enough time to fit it into or the energy to deal with it. But, of course, Dafydd made sure that he did the best he possibly could. As usual. "Your nephew will be here in a moment, and there are also a few new arrivals coming today." Dafydd nodded, already mentally prepping himself for Ieuan's whirl wind of destruction to invade his office. No matter how happier the boy had been over the past few weeks, it didn't change his anger toward Kian due to the Bella situation. Ieuan, for once, had the same views as Dafydd on that. Without another word, he stumbled toward the office and let himself in. Cedar and Icey flanked him faithfully, he'd almost forgotten about them due to how silent the pair had been on the walk over. Immediately, the pair entered the office and went to lay in their favorite places. With another sigh, Dafydd made his way to his chair. His current least favorite place.
Not ten minutes later, a knock sounded on his door. A brow rose, knowing it wouldn't be Ieuan because he just barged in, he half rose from his seat before the door swung open. Eyes widening with surprise, he grinned widely for what seemed to be the first time in weeks. "Ruthie!" he exclaimed, clearly pleased to see the girl. Reaching her, he pulled her into an affectionate hug. "It's been too long." he chuckled, releasing her. "How are you feeling now? I'm really sorry about not being able to make it down to the hospital, Ruth. It's been so hectic here." He told her sadly, he'd always regretted not making it down to see her when she'd had the accident. "Hey, at least you'll be able to meet Kris and the twins now. Oh, and Bella. I think you'll like her." he murmured thoughtfully, thinking of the dark haired female he classed as a daughter.
Before Dafydd could say much more, his office door swung open once again to reveal his nephew. Rolling his eyes at the daft expression on the boy's face, already knowing that he must have just left Max's company, he waited for the young male to notice Ruth standing beside him. "Have you se-" Ieuan's expression became comically excited as he took in the blonde female. "RUTHIE!" he exclaimed, throwing his arms around her and pulling her into a tight hug. His ribs, which up until a few days ago had still been very painful, were now on the mend and tightly bound. He was able to hug the female ferociously without any protests. Anyone who stumbled onto this scene and were used to Ieuan's moody exterior would be extremely surprised to see such happiness radiate from the male as he hugged the girl. But, Ruth was an exception to his limited physical contact rule. She was the closest thing he had to a sister, they'd known each other since they were children. He adored her, even when they were usually squabbling, and she him.
Releasing her finally, he grinned down at her. "No lap dog with you today?" he asked slyly, referring to Niall Bach. The boy wasn't usually far from Ruth's side. Dafydd scowled at his nephew, but Ieuan just chuckled. Rolling his eyes, Dafydd gestured for the pair to sit down on the chairs in front of his desk before settling back into his. Both Icey and Cedar had been watching the exchange intently, and for once Icey seemed to be the most excited by the new arrival. The older Malamute pushed himself up onto all fours and ambled over to the girl in a dignified fashion. Watching the dog fondly as he made his way to Ruth, Dafydd smiled and cleared his throat once. "I trust you had a safe journey, Ruth?" he queried, ignoring the scoff that came from Ieuan. He never failed to make fun of his Uncle when he went into business mode.

Ruthie had been expecting a warm welcome, but the welcome she got from Dafydd was more than pleasant. He was much more like family than anyone else she knew, and it had made a lasting impact on her. Her father had been the only one that had actually supported Dafydd when he had lost Jayden. That memory wasn't as clear, seeing that it happened during her own bad time in her life. Losing Jean had been hard, and even if her late brother had been ten years her senior, they had still been close. It's okay, really. I think dad was just trying to make sure that I was actually going to live because Niall made it sound as if I was on my death bed, she replied to the statement. Dafydd was one of those people who worried constantly about things that he couldn't control and even more about those that he did. I really can't wait to meet all these interesting people that Ieuan keeps talking about, she said, just wanting to meet the twins and everybody else. Max sounded like an interesting one, so did Bella but it Kris who interested her the most. This was the woman that had captured Dafydd's heart and the one who was the mother of his children.
The little reunion was interrupted by Ieuan, as always, who had a very dreamy look on his face. Ruthie stared at him, counting down until he noticed her. It wasn't just a hug, but more like a long lost brother greeting her. Down big fella, she joked, poking him in shoulder. So far he hadn't made any comments that warranted anything more, but it was Ieuan and they would come soon. She actually did miss arguing with him, and the arguments could be compared to that of an old married couple. She remembered that once Kian had actually gone to make popcorn while they fought and watched them like one does a movie. That was before Kian had lost his way and became what he had been. It seemed like this place was indeed a miracle worker when it came to finding love, because all three her men, as she fondly called them, had found love. With a whole lot of drama thrown into the mix.
Then Ieuan had to put his foot in it and made a comment that guaranteed him a punch in the arm. Niall is coming. We had different flights, because I came in from France and he's coming from Wales. AND HE'S NOT MY LAPDOG! she replied, talking rather loudly towards the end. Jet lag+ Ieuan = annoyed Ruthanne. The moment was thankfully broken by Dafydd when he indicated the chairs. She sat down gratefully in the one, and smiled when Icey came over to her. She fussed about the dog, glad that there was more than just one reunion among them. Well, as good as it gets. I never have enjoyed flying, she mused, hearing Ieuan's chuckle. Oh, dad asked me to tell you that they'll be visiting over Christmas and that even though Grandpa has known you for a while, at 96 he still refers to you as 'that bloody Welshman'. Something to do with the rugby I guess, she said relaying the message. It was down to business now it seemed, but there were still a few key people missing from the whole stage.
Where's Kian? she asked, wondering what the latest drama involving the teenager was. Ieuan had mentioned that he was angry at Kian, but further than that she had never got. talk talk talk

Ieuan beamed triumphantly as she reacted to his comment. At that point, he realized how much he missed Ruth's company. Cedar, who obviously felt left out of the attention Icey was gaining, placed himself beside Ieuan and the boy scratched him behind his audits absently. He listened silently as Ruth spoke, grinning fondly as she spoke of her family. Dafydd did the same, letting out a rumble of laughter as she spoke of her grandfather. "I'll never be known as Dafydd to him." he shook his head in amusement as he spoke. Her next question caused both men's expressions to darken, a much more serious air falling over the room. Ieuan had become tense in his chair, clenching and unclenching his fists. He was the one to answer her though. "Currently in the barn with his Clydesdale and Warmblood." he told her through gritted teeth, recalling his meeting with his friend earlier this morning. It had been their most pleasant of the past few weeks, but there was still a frosty air to it. Dafydd sighed, shooting Ieuan a look that told him to calm down a little. The youngster nodded ever so slightly, slowly relaxing back into his chair. "He's been through a lot lately." Dafydd told Ruth, referring to Kian. With that, he began to tell the girl a condensed version of the boy's antics, wincing ever so slightly as he did.
Meanwhile, outside the main office, a black taxi had pulled to a stop. The lithe male inside shot from the vehicle at a startling speed, sucking in a deep breath of relief as his feet hit the graveled ground. The cabbie gave him a curious glance, but Niall chose to ignore it as he dug the money from his pocket and handed it over to the man. Nodding in response to the thank you, Niall quickly pulled his two duffel bags from the back seats and slammed the door shut. Without a second glance, he turned and made his way to the front door of the office. He pushed open the door hesitantly, holding it open as long as he possibly could as he peered into the room. The receptionist gave him a confused look, which turned amused when he gave a sigh of relief when he saw the wide open window. "Could you point me in the direction of Mr. Rees's office, please?" he asked pleasantly, edging toward the open window. The woman shook her head in disbelief, before gesturing in the direction of the corridor. He frowned at how narrow the passage was, and muffled a sigh. With a quick thank you, he picked up his pace and dashed through the corridor and into a much larger room. He was greeted again by a baffled expression of another receptionist.
"Is Mr. Rees in?" he queried, glancing around the larger room. The secretary nodded as she spoke. "Yes dear, but he's with his nephew and a blonde girl at the moment." Niall just grinned. "That's okay, he won't mind if I join them." he said, spotting the room with Dafydd's name on it. He headed toward it, knocking once before fumbling with the handle. He finally managed to get it open, and stumbled into the room. Three heads snapped around to see him, but he was eyeing the closed windows warily. Leaving the office door open, he made his way over to the windows and began to open them quickly. "Hello Dafydd, Ieuan." he greeted the two males pleasantly, grinning at Dafydd and nodding at his nephew. As he opened the last window, he turned to look at Ruth. The smile he shot her was dazzling, his feet already carrying him to her side. "Hey Ruthie." he grinned, leaning down to hug her where she sat. "I missed you this summer." he told her, a slight pout upon his handsome features.
Ieuan, of course, ruined the moment. "Lap dog!" he exclaimed in delight, pleased to have someone who reacted so furiously to his teasing. Niall frowned at the nickname, which he'd had the pleasure of having for many years now. Dafydd rolled his eyes for about the third time since the meeting began, and turned his attention to the new comer. "Niall, it's wonderful to see you again. Last time I saw you, you were only 5'6. What are you now, 6'3?" he questioned, grinning warmly as he pictured a much younger male in his mind. Niall had gone through puberty a little later than his friends. Niall chuckled lightly, nodding at the older man he respected. "Yeah, something like that." noticing in the corner of his eye as Ieuan threw an arm around Ruth's shoulder and held her a little closer to him. Niall's hands twitched in agitation, as did his mouth. He knew Ieuan was doing it to get a reaction, but couldn't help himself. Glancing at Ruth, he smiled slightly, before narrowing his eyes at the arm slung around her shoulders carelessly. He couldn't get rid of the burning jealousy in the pit of his stomach, wishing he could act so freely around the female.

Ruthie merely grinned at Dafydd's answer. Her grandfather was an interesting man. He refused to be placed in a home, and so they had bought a larger house just so that they could look after him. He was witty and funny, always had a taste for the strange and was a World War 2 veteran. The war stories were always the best ones to hear, but after a while one wondered which one's were true and which were created during the shell shock. Strangely enough, her grandfather still called the Germans, Jerry's and used enough profanity when describing them to make sure that she got the point. It was actually just funny to be around the man. So much wisdom in a life.
The answer to her question received the same response from both the males. The tension radiating from Ieuan was clearly seen, and she really wondered what the other had done so wrong to warrant the type of reaction that the question got. Dafydd supplied the answer, and Ruthie just nodded, unsure of what to say. She would confront the other male later, just to hear his side of the story. And let me guess. Ape man over here through a fit, lost his temper and would have beat the living daylights out of his best friend if he hadn't been stopped, she said, not asking a question, merely stating the obvious. Honestly, men were all the same, their reactions so predictable that it could be turned into a best seller book.
The fumbling at the door alerted Ruth to another that was arriving, and she snapped her head around to see that it was Niall. She smiled instantly, her eyes glistening with happiness. Of course she understood why he felt the need to have everything open, but she wondered if he would ever get over his fear of space. Niall was a strange creature. He was quiet with some and totally outgoing with her. She loved him though, as a friend, her relationship status set as single. She had a one or two summer flings, but that was that, they weren't about to become serious in any way. Besides, she didn't want a Frenchman long term. They were really high maintenance. Missed you too! I brought you some of France back with me though, she said, smiling at him. She totally blew her budget during the summer.
Ieuan made a comment once more, and she glared at him. Hadn't they just cleared this up? Thank heavens for Dafydd who diverted the topic. Ieuan vacated the other chair and came to stand next to her, casually slinging his arm over her shoulder's. He did that often, so it really didn't bother her any more. Besides, Ieuan was gay and he wouldn't be interested in her anyway. She was about to say something when the door opened again and this time two unfamiliar people walked, wait stormed in.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Max and Bella had been at the stables, arguing about if either of them should be riding or not. They each said yes to themselves riding, but no to the other riding. So far the hampered on the topics of broken hand and pregnant/mom-to-be. Eagle just looked on from her stall and Manor from lower down. Argument kept going in perfect circles, never quite reaching a completion until they had both shouted Dafydd! and went to Max's car. He drove them up to the main building, parking alongside the cab that was parked there. Neither Bella nor Max saw it or thought that Dafydd might be busy and stormed straight to the office. The secretary still tried to protest their storming in, but was still shocked to have seen so many feet come in the best of twenty minutes.
They didn't notice the two unknown people either, but launched straight into the same argument. He can't ride because of his hand and--- were what Bella managed to get before Max's She can't ride in her condition and my hand --- was what Max could manage before Bella nudged him in the ribs and motioned to the new people in the room. Erm. Bad time? Bella asked, but Max only had eyes for Ieuan. The tall male sidled up to the other and slipped his own fingers through Ieuan's. It was like they had fallen in love all over again.
Bella was thankful for one thing however and that was that she wasn't showing the pregnancy just yet. Maybe another two or three months, but that was still enough time to get her story straight to her parents who she still hadn't told. talk talk talk

Ieuan scowled as Ruthie called him ape man. "You and Bella are going to get on so well." he huffed, thinking over the many times that the other girl had also called him, or Kian, ape man. Dafydd laughed quietly, not deterred by Ieuan's annoyed grimace. He nodded his head in agreement with both Ruthie's and his nephew's statements. Both Dafydd and Ieuan watched the greeting between Niall and Ruthie closely, Dafydd's expression softening when he noticed how pleased the pair were to see one another. Niall especially. Anyone could see that the boy was head over heels in love with Ruth. Well, all except the female herself. Ieuan's expression was one of amusement, watching Niall smugly as he stood closer to Ruth. The girl made no reaction to his proximity, she never did. Niall did though. His eyes narrowed, and Ieuan gave a laugh of delight. It soon died down though, when there was a commotion sounding from the door. "Here comes trouble." Dafydd muttered, looking at the squabbling pair that had just flew in through the open door.
Niall shot out of his chair as soon as the two new people entered. He made his way over to the nearest open window and pressed his side tightly against it. His expression had gone from annoyance directed to Ieuan, to anxious. Dafydd shot him a gentle gaze, hoping to reassure the boy that the new comers weren't going to distress him in any way. Niall managed to relax a little, before the shouting started up and he found himself cringing back into the window. Ieuan watched Niall with concern now, as much as he liked to wind up the boy he didn't like to see him this nervous. His attention was snatched away from him though, and zeroed in on Max. Grinning widely, he squeezed his boyfriends hand lightly and bent down to place a gentle kiss on his cheek. "I love you." he told Max, something he'd taken to doing every time they saw one another since getting back together. They were most definitely still in the honeymoon period.
Dafydd just sighed as the argument disbanded, apparently Ieuan's presence was enough to distract Max enough for it to be forgotten. Turning his gaze on Bella, not before flickering a concerned look to Niall who looked like he wanted to be anywhere but here, he smiled at her warmly. She was looking much better in herself today, which pleased Dafydd immensely. "No, no. This is a perfect time. Bells, Max, meet Ruthie and Niall. I'm sure you've heard myself, Ieuan and Kian speaking of them." he beamed, gesturing to the pair in turn. Niall gave a short nod in greeting to both Max and Bella, before returning his gaze on the ground. His fingers tugged at the collar of his t-shirt, which suddenly felt way too tight. Shifting his weight nervously, he refused to look back up. His chest heaved with sharp breaths as he tried to calm himself. Gradually, they slowed a little, but it way obvious that Niall was still very uncomfortable. Dafydd, noticing this, stood and walked toward the boy. "There is a water cooler outside, go get a drink and cool yourself off Niall. You don't have to come back, but i'd prefer it if you do. We need to sort out your schedule." he spoke to the boy quietly, and squeezed his shoulder gently. Niall nodded gratefully, thankful for the excuse to leave the room, and slipped out of the office door. He leaned against the wall just outside, waving off the secretary's concerned glance. The emptier room was already making him feel a lot better.

Ruthie watched the pair that had just come into the office with amazed amusement. She wondered how Dafydd coped with his students if this was how they usually acted. It was no boring place, of that she was sure, but honestly, this was too much. The one that Ieuan was usually complaining about, or swooning about, was clear as the other male made his way towards Ieuan. That was the diversion the fight needed, because the squabbling stopped. Niall on the other was not handling the interruption well. Ruthie knew her best friend well enough to know that her presence would not help much. The claustrophobia coupled with the angst of being around people had made her protective of the curly haired male, but she knew him well enough to understand when she was supposed to back off.
At the introduction, she smiled her bright, spunky smile and confirmed it with a “Hey!” This Bella was an intrigue to her. So this was the one that Kian had chosen and subsequently knocked up in the process. Bella seemed to be full of life and vitality, but there was an undercurrent of something else. Not depression, but rather a sadness that wouldn’t disappear. The only reason Ruthie knew or even saw it was because she had the same thing a few years ago. Ruthie got up from the chair, and so loosened the arm that was around her shoulder. She went to stand next to Bella, looking at the scene with a different angle. “So how do you deal with them?” Ruthie asked striking up a conversation as was in her habit to do so.
Out of the corner of her eye, Ruthie saw that Niall wasn’t handling the whole thing to well. Dafydd was at least there to try and calm him down. The male however basically fled out of the office to calm himself, and she felt guilty for not doing something about it. “Excuse me for a moment,” she said, and also walked out of the office. She found Niall, and looked over to the secretary. The woman was worried and Ruthie gave a small shake of her head. The male did not look good, and she was worried. Lacing her fingers through his, she looked at him. “It’s okay. Where do nuns go to work out?” she asked the male, going for her dry jokes to resort to making him heal quicker.
Max knew that they were still in the whole honeymoon phase of the relationship. This was what it had been like when they had first met and reunited at the airport and now once more. It would just take one of them to do something stupid for the whole thing to fall to pieces. That would either be a) Ieuan getting drunk and a bar fight or b) Max following his fears instead of his heart. “I love you more,” he replied with a smile as Ieuan kissed his cheek. He had totally forgotten about the whole fight, but not about his point that he had made. Bella could not be riding in her condition and he hoped that she would see reason. He nodded as the introduction took place along with his smile. He was still dreamy with Ieuan by his side.
There were some easy deductions that Bella could make from walking into the room. The curly haired male didn’t like new people and fled to an open window. The other female was relaxed enough, but Dafydd was already reassuring the other male. Bella knew that the school had variety, so these new students would just be adding to it. “Pleasure to meet you,” Bella greeted, but only the faintest trace of a smile graced her face after the introductions. If this was indeed the people that Dafydd, Kian and Ieuan kept talking about then they would already know about her condition. It was slowly seeping into the school as a rumour, not fact, that she was pregnant, and one or two of her ‘friends’ had stopped talking to her. Ruthie did seem friendly enough and even came up to her with conversation. “I don’t. They drive me up the wall with their antics,” she replied, opening up a bit more than usual. Bella wasn’t paying attention to Dafydd, but did notice Niall’s departure from the office where he was followed by Ruthie. It reminded her of a scene a few months prior when Alex was the new student and she had followed Kian out of the office. Scarily like that day. “Dafydd, we need your opinion and final verdict on this,” Bella started when Max picked up the rest of the story.
“I say that she can’t ride because of the pregnancy. I talked to Kris and she is more than willing to take on the extra horses. Bella is being stubborn however,” he said, snapping out of the reverie that he was in. Max’s features only carried concern about his best friend, but she would probably only listen to Dafydd. His hand really had nothing to do with it, but it wasn’t as if he was jumping hectic fences with it. Eagle wasn’t even fit to do serious competition after the colic op and the only ones in serious training was his baby.
Sighing, Bella took up a vacated chair, and drew up her slender legs to her chest. She knew that Max had a point, but her mind did not want to accept the fact. “Please Dafydd. Don’t take away the one thing that keeps me sane,” she pleaded with desperation showing clearly. Horses had kept her calm throughout the years after the accident. Dafydd had after all met her in a barn, ready to take her own life. She had been fine for a while, but when her father had moved out, she had taken to cutting for a while. That summer holiday had been one of the worst. Then again, every summer holiday had been bad since the age of sixteen. Bella couldn’t name one that had actually been good, or ended well.
Kris dressed the twins warmly, and despite it being still slightly warm, she was just taking caution. Seth had just recovered from an ear infection and Kris and Dafydd were still trying to recover sleep. Brynne was the quiet one, only crying if really necessary, but Seth was the loud mouth of the family. He was usually the one that woke everyone up at three in the morning, about the time that Kris could actually feel Dafydd relaxing in his sleep. Her partner refused to just let her do the night shifts, and did his every alternate evening. It was taking its toll though, and she could see the fatigue getting to him. That and stress was not the best combo. He might not have been admitting it, but the whole Bella situation was not doing him well.
With the twins in the stroller, she took them on a walk around the College as she usually did every morning with a stop by the office. Then it was morning naps before lunch. While the twins slept, Kris caught an hour herself. Lunch followed and then she did a few things around the apartment. By the time class ended, either Bella or Ieuan, or both took the twins and Kris went to train horses.
The route varied usually day to day, but Kris took the most direct one this time. She had promised Dafydd’s secretary a visit with the twins while they were still awake and not cranky. The office air conditioning was on, but the little ones were warm enough. Every doting older women in the office area doted over the twins and they gurgled happily in response. At almost five months old, time had gone by pretty quickly. In the waiting area by Dafydd’s office there were two students and the door to the office was open. So it was a whole reuniting thing because three of the four were in the office. “Will you look after them for a moment?” she asked Judy, the friendly secretary who nodded an enthusiastic yes.
Entering the office with a light knock, she went over to Dafydd. Standing behind him, she was unsure what the problem was at that moment in time. All she could do was offer silent support for the one she loved.
