Kian walked down the path from Dr. Thomas's house with a slight smile upon his handsome face. The young male looked over his shoulder and raised a hand to wave goodbye to the younger girl and her grandmother standing outside, both smiling warmly and waving their goodbyes too. Tucked under Kian's left arm was a bundle of adorable fur, golden coat catching the rare sunlight of the warm October afternoon. The grey eyed male adjusted his hold on the dog, cradling him closer to his chest and angling the pup so they could look one another in the eye. "She may, or may not, kill me for this." he told the inquisitive retriever as he sat himself into his car carefully, referring to Bella as she was the one he hoped to surprise the new arrival with. Grinning almost carelessly when he felt his new companion shower the underside of his jaw with sloppy kisses. "Thank you for that, little one." he chuckled, placing the puppy in his lap while he strapped in the seat belt. Starting the car, he pulled out of Cedar Street with a contemplative look upon his features. He needed to prove to himself, and others, that he was going to be an able father. He'd racked his brain for weeks to be able to do that, but nothing had come up until the other day. He'd seen an ad, while in town, for Retriever puppies for sale. It instantly hit him. If he could raise a puppy, he could raise a baby. Right? They weren't that different. Well, they were, but Kian chose to over look that thought for the time being. This was where he found himself today, leaving Dr. Thomas's with the puppy. The creature did not have a name yet, he was hoping Bella would be able to help him with that. If she'd start speaking to him anyway. He was also hoping that this would bring them back closer together, ever since his outburst about a month ago, they'd been less than polite to one another. Kian sighed deeply, his body slumping slightly. He missed her company, the contact that he had with her. He craved her attention, which she pointedly held from him whenever they were near one another. She wasn't the only one in the wrong though. Oh no. He was just as much, if not more, to blame. It was his outburst that triggered the downfall. Parking the car smoothly, the male wasted no time in getting out with his new pet. The pup panted happily, wriggling closer into Kian's neck and almost wrapping his front paws around it. Kian chuckled again, placing a protective hand on the pup's back as they walked toward Dakota dorms. He was pretty certain he'd be able to find Bella in her room, and hopefully alone. He really didn't need threatening glances from Andrew, Alexi or Max today. He no longer had to worry about Ieuan, their friendship was back to how it was before. Although, he did often find Ieuan siding with Bella on numerous things. Much more than before. Ducking in through the front door, he ignored the curious glances shot at him by other students. He did notice their comically widened eyes as they took in his new companion, making him snort in amusement. It wasn't that surprising to see him with a dog, was it? He wasn't all bad. His horses were two of the best cared for at the academy. It then dawned on him that they probably though he stole the adorable creature currently in his possession, which made him snort again. The pup looked at him curiously, before going back to tugging at his new owners hair playfully. Kian trudged up the stairs to Bella's room slowly, peering around corners to make sure he didn't bump into anyone he didn't want to. He was glad to see the hallway empty, and picked up the pace and soon found himself stood outside his loves' door. His palms became instantly clammy, and his posture stiffened as the task at hand dawned on him. The pup, still clinging at Kian's locks, sensed this and began to whine softly. This seemed to snap Kian out of his trance, and the boy adjusted the position of the dog so that he had a more supportive grip on him before reaching up and knocking on the door. Before all the drama had occurred, he wouldn't had thought twice about barging into the room. But now, he hesitated. Shifting his weight carefully, he waited as patiently as he could for Bella to answer the door. He managed to occupy his hands with the pup, who was now cradled upside down in Kian's arms with the boy scratching his stomach gently. The sight of the completely relaxed and blissed out puppy couldn't fail to raise a delighted smile to Kian's handsome face. Who would be able to resist that?

Bella was still in her slacks and sleeping shirt. It had been a lazy day so far and she hadn't left her room for anything. Andrew had tried to convince her to go for breakfast, but she had instead sent him on a grocery order for vanilla ice cream, toffee sauce and gherkins. Her cravings were going haywire, and after she had tried to explain to her twin what she was feeling, he had asked her not too. He would buy the stuff she wanted, but didn't want to know what she was going to do with them. Max had also been a pest, but after a discreet text to Ieuan, her best friend was now happily distracted. Alexi was also distracted, trying to find a certain red head. The guy was in love, and she had never seen him this...happy before. Well, happy enough with the circumstances.
She put on a happy face, but she knew the guys were trying to compensate for Kian. Nobody could do that. She missed being with him, just being with his presence and having his arms around her. Bella knew that he didn't what he told her a month ago, but he hadn't apologised either. Cold shoulder took on a new meaning when it came to the last four weeks. It broke her to go to a scan alone. She wanted Kian to see his child, his flesh and blood, but so far he hadn't come forward. That day she had decided to tackle the ever growing amount of school work she had been neglecting. She was sitting on the carpeted floor, legs crossed and papers spread in a circle around her. The TV was on low volume, her Supernatural Season 1 going. Samson had taken up the double bed, watching his owner with one eye open.
Bella looked like she had just woken up, her now brownish-blonde hair in messy curls hanging past her shoulders. The blonde had been consistent for a while, but after she found out she was pregnant had allowed her roots to grow out again. Then there was the morning sickness. It seems that the nauseous feeling was returning again, and she knew when to run for the bathroom. Now was one of those times. It wasn't as bad as when she had woken up, but it left her visibly shaken. There was a knock at the door as she sat on the bathroom floor, cradling her stomach, and she wondered who it could be. Max and Ieuan were gay, so they just stormed in when they wanted to, not caring if they caught her unawares. Alexi was blind so he did it as well and Andrew at least texted before he did the barging act. Kian also did it, but he hadn't been to her room in a month or more.
Going up to the door she realised what a state she was in, and she decided it was too late now. Samson was sitting up right on the bed, his tail wagging and an eager expression on his face. Bella was confused as to the sudden excitement from the dog. He only got that worked up over Kian... Was Kian on the other side of the door? Only one way to find out. Bella opened the door and she stared at Kian for about ten seconds before it registered that it was him. With a puppy. A retriever puppy. Wha...What? she managed to get out finally.

He'd been so absorbed in the pup that he hadn't noticed the door had opened. In fact, Bella's voice even managed to make him jump in surprise. His eyes snapped to hers, taking in her disheveled appearance. A smile slowly tugged at his lips, he'd always preferred her like this. He'd never say it aloud, but it was when she looked most comfortable. It was rare for him to be able to see her like this, so he relished in it briefly. Then he took in her confused expression, currently directed at the puppy in his arms. Said pup was looking at the other human, upside down, curiously. His floppy ears shuddered as he tilted his head to the side which prompted Kian to adjust the position of the dog and tuck him under his arm. The male turned his gaze on Bella again, this time sheepishly. "I can explain?" he offered, gesturing to go inside. He was pretty sure she wouldn't banish him from her room, but still waited for her to return to it before he entered. Following her inside, his oracles immediately sought out Samson. The tall male cast a fond smile at the canine, who always seemed pleased to see him. The pup in his arms squirmed with delight at the sight of another dog, and began to whine excitedly. Crouching to allow Samson to have contact with the pup, Kian kept his eyes focused on the two dogs as he spoke. "I just got him from Dr. Thomas, he doesn't have a name yet." he started, watching the puppy as he strained to greet the larger dog. "Saw an ad for him in Hooves and Tails. I have a motive though." He added quietly, finally looking up to Bella. "I'm sorry for what I did. You didn't deserve it. It's just.." he paused as he searched for the correct words, his brow furrowing with frustration when he couldn't find them. Frowning, he continued on regardless. "I can't, couldn't, see myself being a father. So I thought, why not have a trail run?" Did that sound right? Kind of. He just hoped she understood where he was coming from. "This is where he comes in," nodding his head toward the puppy who was now lifting a paw to bat at Samson playfully. "I thought, that maybe if I can raise him well, I'd have a shot at being a father. I guess." The last words came out almost silently, as if ashamed by them. His gaze dropped once more, not focused on the floor around Bella's feet. The plan sounded stupid now. What had he been thinking? A puppy was nothing like a baby.

Bella just stepped aside for Kian to come in. A million unknown thoughts rushed through her head as she closed the door. Kian looked so lost inside the room, but he had been there so many times before. She listened without comment, still trying to absorb the fact that Kian had come back to her. Samson gave a loud bark and sniffed the squirming bundle of fur. He dropped onto his front, back in the air, ready to play. You can put the pup down, she said with surprise still in her vocals. All Bella wanted to do was take Kian in her arms and hold him, make sure that she wasn't dreaming. Hard to believe, but she thought she was having a pregnancy induced hallucination.
She didn't know what to say to Kian. She let him finish though before doing anything. He was so adorable when nobody was around. I think it's adorable, she said, stepping closer and lifting his head with a fore finger. I think you're adorable, she said, looking into his grey orbs. Bella wrapped her arms around his waist, savouring the comfort the small action provided. There's nothing to be sorry about love. I understand your reactions, and everything that came with it, she whispered, a few tears coming down her cheeks. It seemed that her body however had other ideas, and Bella broke the embrace, beelining for the bathroom with a clear 'stay there' hand gesture for Kian.
She got most of her breakfast out this time as well. Turning on the cold water, Bella washed her face and brushed her teeth. She felt like crap, and looking into the bathroom mirror, saw that she looked like it as well. Come here, she told him, entering the bedroom again. She waited for the uncertain Kian, and just smiled at him. Taking his calloused hand, she placed it on her baby bump that was somewhat hidden by the shirt. She, or he, is your's Kian. Your flesh and blood, she said quietly, happiness glinting in her eyes.

Kian released his hold on the pup once Bella gave him the okay that he was safe to be put down. The puppy immediately dove onto Samson's front paws, yipping excitedly and butting his head into the larger dogs chin. Kian smiled fondly at the animals antics, becoming more and more attached to the small creature. He straightened up, but kept his gaze down. Her words caused him to stiffen a little, his cheeks involuntarily flushing a slight pink. He wasn't exactly fond of being called adorable, but chose not to bring it up. He found that his lips had curved into a shy smile as she made him look up, only to increase as she added the next words. He released a sharp breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding when her arms slipped around his waist. His automatic response was to wrap his arms around her, pressing his lips into the top of her head. "There are a lot I need to be sorry about, Bells. I shouldn't have just ran off, I know how it made you feel. That is the main reason i'm sorry." he murmured, his expression contorting at the thought of her being so upset because of him. It was what he did best. Leave a trail of destruction after his departures. When Bella pulled away from the embrace, his expression instantly morphed to one of concern. He was about to follow her, but her clear gesture not to stopped him. Crossing his arms over his chest sulkily, he cringed as he heard her throw up her breakfast. His hands itched to comfort her, but he held back. He would regret it, he knew that for a fact. He'd faced the wrath of Bella more times that he'd have liked too. These thoughts formed another grin on his lips, making him realize how much he missed being told off by her as well as just her company. She returned not long after, beckoning him closer. He did so obediently, wondering what she was up to now. When she took his hand, his oracles widened substantially. They locked on her stomach and he flinched slightly when his hand connected with it. His whole form tensed at the contact, but slowly began to relax. His thumb traced the small bump gently as he stared, obviously marveled by it. Her words didn't register straight away. But when they did, he wouldn't be able to deny it and say that they didn't freak him out. Yet, when he looked up and saw the happiness in Bella's eyes, his worried melted. At least for now. "Yeah.. Mine." he whispered, eyes locked back on her stomach, in awe. Kian's orbs locked on the pup suddenly, a brainwave hitting him full force. "Hunter." he muttered, before grinning. "His name should be Hunter." he repeated with more clarity, removing his hand from Bella's stomach and giving her own hand a quick squeeze before crouching down once again. The puppy, now named Hunter, noticed the human's action and diverted his attention to Kian. He bounded enthusiastically toward his new owner, causing the male to grin. Scooping him up when Hunter was close enough, he held the pup close to his chest before turning back to Bella. "Hunter, meet Bella. She's my better half, and i'm sure you're going to love her." he smiled, looking at Hunter and then back up to Bella. "I'm going to prove myself wrong Bells. I'll be a good dad." he murmured, his expression growing uncharacteristically serious. I hope, anyway. he added, silently.

Kian was such a guy in most of his reactions. It amused Bella to no end that this guy was actually quite smart, but acted like an idiot three times out of four. There were moments like that though, that just reinforced why she loved him and it couldn't be helped. That chance meeting at the paddocks oh so long ago was fated. She still remembered him telling her that she shouldn't threaten him, but now she did and had him in quivering in fear. She did, after all, slap him when he kissed her the first time. Now, she remembered all these times as she watched his reactions with regard to his baby. Shock and awe mingled into a Kodak moment expression, and Bella just grinned fondly.
The next outburst had her more than a little confused. Kian was so sure that it was a boy and he wanted to call him Hunter. Oh hell to the no, no child of hers was going to be called Hunter. It made more sense when Kian called the puppy over that had been playing with Samson for the last while. The puppy, cute and eager, also made one heck of a mess out of her note arrangement on the floor and Bella's expression turned from fondness to dismay in an instant. Never study with puppies, but she had honestly not known that Kian was going to surprise her with a dog. He was going to find out soon enough though that a puppy was not all that it was cracked up to be. Especially Retriever pups. They weren't destructive, but curious and any leather items were to be hidden. That meant any riding boots and gaiters, crops and halters. Trainers were also in danger as well as curtains. Samson wasn't always as well behaved as he was now.
Kian came over with the pup, and Bella fondled the small ears, shaking her head with amusement. She was used to having a serious Kian when she first met him. When he was still convinced that he was demon spawn and the like. Now, he was happy and carefree, well until the pregnancy that is. I know. I love you Kian. Thank you for coming back, she whispered, standing on her toes to plant a kiss on his lips. She missed him a lot, is what she realised in that brief moment, but she had her unspoken doubts. How were they going to raise a child? Maybe adoption wasn't such a bad idea, but they had time. Time to figure everything out.
