PERSONALITY: Toad is a sweetheart really, but he can be a bit full of himself in the stable and when he's being ridden. On the ground, he doesn't have any real faults. Toad's bad habit is dancing around, he hates standing still with a true passion. Bred wild, it's in his nature to never be still, always wanting to be on the go.
To ride, he really is a handful, but if you can get past that he has a real talent. Toad is difficult to hold in, the more you tighten on his mouth the more upset he gets. Not one for beginners, it takes a rider who can sit quietly in the saddle yet still control him to be able to work with him properly. Toad doesn't like listening to direction, he's always convinced he's making the right choice. It takes a while to gain his respect, but after that, he will consider what you have to say rather than just blanking it out to go his own way.
HISTORY: Toad's early history is a little uncertain, although it is strongly believed he was bred in a semi-feral herd out on the mountains of Wales. Research done by Katie's grandfather found him to most likely be from the herd on the Carneddau mountains. He picked him up from an auction still half wild, having presumably been captured straight for sale. It's still murky whether or not he was sold at the auction from a true owner.
Toad was just six then, and Katie was quickly expected to train him completely, the only one small enough to ride him regularly. It wasn't the first time she'd had horses put upon her like this, nor the fiftieth. Something between her and Toad just clicked though, and they almost instantly shared an amazing bond. She competed with him, but soon after her and Jack starting planning to leave, her grandfather revealed he had a potential buyer lined up for Toad. Competing him one last time before they left, Katie was aware the buyers were watching. They won the hunter trials, but Katie refused to leave without him. Jack wasn't impressed, but knew it was the only way he would get her out of the situation they were in. Katie is happy now with Toad here, but she constantly fears her grandfather will turn up and take Toad away from her.
