PERSONALITY:
Charlie is afraid of everything. The slightest movement makes her flinch, and she wants to flee at any sign of a raised voice. She'll hide away for hours on end if she's being looked for, and is very difficult to track down when she really wants to disappear. The only people ever able to find her were her parents, sadly. The nervous femme avoids people like the plague, and if directly addressed, she refuses to answer. As she never fights back and the fact that she is petrified of everything means that she was a perfect target for bullies. Even her parents picked up on this. She came home many days with chewing gum stuck in her beautiful chestnut shaded locks, and spit balls splattered all over her back. Yet, she didn't get any sympathy until she stayed with her uncle during the holidays. Instead, she just got more abuse. She just couldn't win.
Her shy nature means that she doesn't make friends. She has never had a close friend, people do not want to be associated with her. This makes her deeply upset, she actually craves the company of another being and cannot stop the horrible pangs of jealousy when she sees gaggles of other girls and boys huddled together gossiping and laughing. At first, she attempted to stand on the edges and try to join in. She was soon put into her place and chased away from the different gangs. She soon realized that she didn't fit in anywhere, and took to just wandering alone in school and on the weekends, when she was allowed out.
Due to the abuse she has suffered, she doesn't trust a soul. Not even her uncle who has tried to look after her for many years. She will not go near someone unless she is completely sure that they have nothing to hurt her with. Even then she will keep her distance. She despises physical contact, and won't even let someone steer her out of the way of danger. She'll make that perfectly clear with her body language and facial expression. When she speaks, you have to really listen as she speaks so quietly. It's not that she doesn't like talking, she often speaks to herself as she hasn't had the company to speak to, it's the fact that she has been taught to speak little more than a whisper. Her voice seems to be permanently hoarse, something she really dislikes as it goes right through her.
Although she doesn't smile often, when she does it really lights up her face. She does force a fake smile upon her face when she's trying to convince someone that she is fine. You know when it is a fake one, it doesn't touch her eyes. But, apart from that, her expression is usually one of worry or fear. She has one means of protection, and this is a Bullmastiff which was purchased for her by her uncle. The canine is fiercely protective of his mistress, even if they have only been together for a short while. He will not let anyone near her if he sees them as a threat. Charlie is so grateful for him, and he truly adores her.
When you get to know the real Charlie, you see how sweet and misunderstood she really is. She has a streak of humor in her, even if it is a little sadistic at times, and could make someone a good companion. As soon as you gain a little trust from her, you have a friend for life. But you must be understanding of the fact that she could never trust you fully, she just doesn't want to get hurt again. She's also not one to stick around if your in trouble, any form of authority intimidates her and she wouldn't want to get sucked up into something more when she already has had such a brutal life.
BACKGROUND:
Born in London, Her life didn't look up to much from day one. Her mother delivered her at home, on the living room sofa to be exact. The midwife was there, but left as soon as she saw that Charlie was healthy and as was her mother. Charlie was soon taught that crying wasn't tolerated at home, she was beaten black and blue until it sank in. She also learned that meals weren't going to appear as often as they should, and that she should rarely expect clean clothes. Relief only came when she went to stay with her uncle. Only then would she get three meals a day, clean clothes and wouldn't cower in fear, not knowing when her next beating would occur. She pleaded to stay with him, and resented him when she was sent back to her parents. Shortly after her eighth birthday, her father began to sexually abuse her. The remains of her pitiful youth was ripped from her. She knew she would never get back those years when you were supposed to be care free. She never had the chance.
School was a struggle, nearly as bad as home. She'd come back bawling her eyes out, only to receive more beatings from both her mother and father, then to be molested. It was like the cycle of hell she would never escape. Until now. Recently, she was beaten so badly by her mother and father that she had to be hospitalized. Taken to the hospital by her uncle, they managed to persuade the doctors and prying eyes that she had fallen. Her uncle finally understood that she couldn't stay there any longer. He moved her with him to Hertfordshire, but her parents came looking. Now he has ushered her into Park, claiming that he is her legal guardian. She has never been around horses in her life, which makes it a better place to hide from her searching parents. She has been told to keep her head down and do little to draw attention to herself. She planned on doing this anyway, and hopes to stay out of the limelight as much as possible.
MISC.:
Jock. As mentioned before, Jock is a male Bullmastiff and is used as protection by Charlie. He's very loving when he knows you aren't a threat, but if he doesn't trust you he'll keep his eyes firmly locked on you. He would never attack unless given the command by Charlie, but will circle someone in a menacing manner. He has gone for Charlie's parents a few times and even punctured her fathers leg.
